unfair battle.net tournament seedings

I posted this on wcreplays and thought it was worth a discussion here:

*****

I think the number one ranked players on Azeroth and Lordaeron, nc.dude and Gx.eriko respectively, got a raw deal in this tournament. nc.dude draws 4K.Zeus[19] as his wildcard while Gx.eriko gets 4K.Fury. Zeus and Fury are easily two of the best players in all of Europe! If they had laddered on Azeroth and Lordaeron instead of Northrend, they would easily have ascended to the top!

I like the attempted synergism between Blizzard and the WC3L but this punishes the two North American gateway leaders for their good play and seedings rather than rewarding them. It seems comically naive or infuriatingly callous to think that this system would lead to balanced brackets. Of course the WC3L champion was going to have top caliber players-- that's why they won the WC3L!-- and of course it would be smart for them (4K) to disperse their two alloted slots to the weaker gateways, Azeroth and Lordaeron.

I don't know the solution, but this is definitely not the answer.

This is the reason why Bjarke made sure he wasn't ranked 1 on Northrend when the season ended ;)

Hehe.. I doubt 4K would have placed Zeus and Fury anywhere other than the North American gateways, even if Zeus did lose.. :P.. but since we're on the subject, the number one seed on Northrend did get upset (Sunshine > Zacard), so maybe Bjarke knew something we didn't... ;)

Like what? I knew that the 2 last spots would be given to WC3L players, and I think it was up on the Blizzard site also, but not sure.
