ESWC Rant

I hate this.. EVERY year this happens.

How can some of the most developed countries in terms of e-sports programs and with some of the deepest talent pools of pro-gamers take only ONE ESWC spot while others take two!?!

As I understand it, all you have to do is pay extra if you want a second slot.

So how is it that countries like Lebanon, Vietnam and Iran can send TWO players each while Russia, Germany and Sweden send only one!?! No offense but I can't for the life of me even name what race the Vietnam players use!

Look, TiTaN and FuRy are going as first placers in their countries' qualies, but not the runner-ups. Guys, the runner-ups we're talking about are Deadman and SaSe respectively! Germany is sending Fire_de but no second spot for mTw.Tak3r. C'mon! Denmark is sending two (Bjarke and Ciara); France two (ToD and Wolfy); Netherlands two (Zerter and RotterDaM); Bulgaria two (DIDI8 and Insomnia). What are these countries' orgas thinking?!

It's a farce, I tell you! A complete and utter joke!

Stay tuned for next year's rant... Oh wait, there's still the WCG... ><

P.S GL to Vietnam...

#0 - If you knew how much a ESWC license cost you would not say that hehe. But what surprises me is that the "poorer" countries buy 2 spots and a lot of the richer ones buy only 1 for WC3.

A lot of countries don't even have WC3 in the schedule because its simply to expensive for them to hold the tournament as the license for it kills the opportunity, so it is a matter of what their country is known for and that is the game (I assume) they will buy the license for.

They can make it like USA who haven't money ;-)and just let people decide by vote. So you dont waste money for a qualifier but can send more then 1 player and its even the player everyone want's like Deadman, Sase, Shortround etc.. But then talents like the US Quake player who got 2nd in Lanwar didn't get a possiblity because he wasn't very well known allthough they are much better then the chosen ones.

I see your point Mercy. I'm sure it costs a lot, but you said it yourself-- poorer countries stepped up so my question is, why not the rich ones? I mean, if you're Sweden, Russia and Germany, you know that you have some of the best WC3 players in the world and that the chances of your players advancing deep in the tournament are much higher than the players of Iran or Lebanon and yet you buy only one slot?

I mean, SaSe and Deadman could actually win the WHOLE THING! It must mean something-- not much, but something-- to these countries to have one of their players win a major, prestigious, international LAN event under their mother flag, right?

Oh, and, c'mon, if there's one game Germany is known for, it's gotta be WC3 (they have the most developed WC3 scene outside of Korea). And is it coincidence that all three of these countries are arguably the most likely to win the ENC?

Sometimes happens that the organisation that organizes this qualifier is more "fan" of big counter strike names than the rest of the games.

f.e.: That's what happened in last year's Swedish WC3 Qualifier, where players were forced (at the beginning, later on switched to current version atm.) to play with patch 1.17 and french game version. And the players had big delays in schedules to fix this problem because organisers where watching and having fun with the CS games from SK, spiXel and other teams.

In my opinion, most of the organisers don't have knowledge enough to choose what games deserve how much.
