![]() | The WCG is an international eSports festival centered on bringing the world together through video games. It is about top players representing their countries for honor and glory and to hopefully bring home a gold. Sometimes, the mixing of cultures does not always go down well. In this case, several Chinese professional gamers were caught attacking a Taiwanese gamer by the name of You-Chen Liu. He was the 3rd place winner of the Project Gotham Racing division of the WCG, and proudly displayed his flag upon the stage. |
As he walked back towards his hotel, several Chinese professional gamers, such as Fly100% and PJ were harassing them and it eventually led to violence. The police had to be called in and as the Taiwanese spokeswoman led them to the hotel she requested that they be guarded. The punishments of such actions are not yet determined, nor do we know if there will be any. They were angered at the flag You-Chen was using because they did not infact recognize Taiwan as a seperate country, and they expected him to display the Chinese flag. We here at MYM do not support violence in any manner and hope justice is served.

No,, China is till in the beliefs that taiwan is a province of China. That it isn't a seperate country. Yet, that's the reason why.

this news is pretty biased. if this Taiwan guy use a Chinese taipei flag which is used traditionally as the flag for Taiwan representatives at international sport events, there won't be such sad things happen. When ppl try to blame Chinese progamers, why don't you think about who is the trouble maker at first? In such a sensitive time and place, why you always bring political issues to sports? I am not saying those overreactions mentioned in this news are reasonable, but somehow it can be understood. i hope both sides should return to the pure e-sports NOT political conflicts!

when its by gamers, its esports related

#9 sports are only place where politics shouldnt get involved. will e-sports be the same? this are young people mostly so they have less self-control, provoking and reacting to a provocation in this case is ridiculous, taiwan and north korea, you aint gonna get ecuted if you dont take the flag your country wants you to or whatever.
when it comes to this subject not even football can call itself a sport as there is so much hatred involved in it, both by its fans and pla If force won't work, use greater force.

#11 well if you want to claim this is normal that political issue always involved in esports. but at least you should not always listen one side words. Putting such a post here only make things complicated. In 2001, there has similar incident happened in the 1st WCG, Taiwan team made a offical apology for such things and said this not gonna happen again. Why they still do it again and again? Why this news only blame chinese progamers? Even one of the Taiwan warcraft gamer HRU also explained in a taiwan warcraft forum that actually things not like what media 'described'. I do feel sorry when i saw such news in MYM.

My god .... you are as a little children. You argue again ...

#14 dont look at me, i didnt take sides :D i totally agree with you on this one that both sides looked for trouble and you cant say x is more guilty than y. im not saying it is normal part of esports, it's a sad part just as it is sad for any sport that has people with such attitude. any political behaviour in sports i dont consider normal,
for example Djokovic was mixed up after winning Federer(think it was that match), they said he is from Croatia and he didnt start any political crap or anything, he just smiled and said we're all the same to him in the end, no point in getting mad over such things and if you followed croatian-serbian history you'd see why his reaction served as an example of what sports should and some are all about :) If force won't work, use greater force.

damn communism...what they doing to the brains of their people :/

#20 same americans are doing to their people, north koreans to their and so on, sure there are exceptions as always(im thinking about citizens as exceptions that dont get brainwashed) but many countries like to manipulate their people and wars they wish to "participate" in for their own reasons.
i'm quite bothered by the fact that human race is so pathetic it still can't stop separating itself ba If force won't work, use greater force.

i recently watch BBC world...taiwan just celebrated their independence day and what do you expect? their president showing off their military weapons from infantry to tanks to missile cruisers helicopters apache(perhaps)...and saying they will defend taiwan from china if it was attack..and would seek membership from the UN (which CHina would not permit)...if taiwan would still do this to break away from mainland china...im pretty sure china will "CRUSH" taiwan..
you may think china is being cruel..but to their point of view it is theirs in the first place...so what happens next? another war perhaps Strength lies not in defense but in attack!
