ESWC 2008 with CS 1.6

The new season of the Elecronic Sports World Cup started today, on October 1st, and it will end Summer 2008 with the Grand Final event in Paris. Besides the announcement of the start of the new season, the ESWC also released the first pool of the games which will be played in the new season.

Unlike the CB:EC or other events, the ESWC prefers the old version of Counter-Strike, 1.6. In a statement on the official homepage, the ESWC committee said:

"We think CS 1.6 is still the best version for competition to date. It is also the most played version. We have signed a licence agreement with Valve for CS 1.6 and we thank them for their support and their trust in our project."

Here are the first four ESWC games:

  • Counter-Strike 1.6 (PC) (c) Valve Software
  • Counter-Strike 1.6 (PC) reserved for women (c) Valve Software
  • Warcraft III : The Frozen Throne (PC) (c) Blizzard
  • Trackmania Nations ESWC (PC) (c) Nadeo

As you can see, there is also a seperated female Counter-Strike 1.6 tournament, but all other games will also be open for female and male persons.

The ESWC also announced that there will definatley be a pure FPS tournament for the new season, but they are not sure which it will be at the moment.

Recoil, aiming...If there would be no difference besides the graphic, more people would play source and 1.6 maybe would have died long ago..
