MYM.CoD4 at THESGL Summerslam

While many Benelux teams were playing at the ACER Challenge in Netherlands Enschede, the British based teams went to United Kingd- Birmingham to attend THESGL Summerslam in Call of Duty 4.

Twelve teams showed up at the Omega Sector to compete for an amount of £ 1000 in prize money. This was also the first official LAN appearance of the MeetYourMakers.CoD4 team.

The LAN started off with the groupstage and a single elimination afterwards. The best three teams of each group advanced into the playoffs, which were played in a best-of-three system. After four wins and one loss, the team MeetYourMakers proceeded into the playoffs, followed by the British rivals of Team Coolermaster.UK and Vivid-Gaming. Coming into the playoffs from group B were Reason-Gaming, Beast-Gaming and the new team named infused.

The MeetYourMakers team had to face the rather unknown team of Beast-Gaming and took them down in 2:0 mapscore. Waiting in the semifinal was none other than Reason Gaming who just won over envy-Gaming with 2:0 as well. Many people considered this match as the grand final due to both teams being ranked top three in the British scene. The match started on mp_crash and was a real thriller. In the end Reason-Gaming came out on top with winning 13:11 - 7:13 - 13-6 while infused beat Team Coolermaster.Uk with two to zero and advanced into the grand final.

The grand final was between Reason Gaming and infused and even closer than the match against MYM. Reason won the first map with 13-8 but had to suffer a loss on the second map with 9-13. It could not get any more dramatic than the last map mp_vacant. Only one round was missing for the team of infused to make the surprise of the tournament. In the end it was a 13-11 score for Reason Gaming, declaring the winner of THESGL Summerslam 2007 - Reason Gaming.

Here are the final standings of THESGL Summerslam 2008 in Call of Duty 4:

GoldUnited Kingd- Reason-Gaming £ 750
SilverUnited Kingd- infused Gaming £ 250
BronzeUnited Kingd- MeetYourMakers / United Kingd- Team Coolermaster.UK

Team Manager Robert 'Morg' Black about the LAN: "Well reports from the SGL Summer slam are not very good and a lot of people are very dissapointed, MYM finishing 3rd/4th is more than dissapointing. But due to the team all recently having exams, activity has not been what it should have. The LAN signifies the beginning of our new training schedule in preparation for the summer LAN's, expect to see a much stronger performance from the team over summer"

Summer Slam kinda failed. The CSS tournament was canceled at the quarter-finals and will be played online now.. jeez! Still, from what I've read and saw from theSGL before the event, there was a lot of effort put into the event but it just wasn't happening.

Shame, but I hope theSGL doesn't suffer to badly from this as they really did do well to arrange the event in the short time frame they had!

only dead fish go with the flow...
