Young boy saved by WoW
Nettavisen.no has published a great story on their website about a 12 year old Norwegian boy who, thanks to his experience from a computer game, actually managed to save his own life.
The norwegian website states that
Hans Jørgen Olsen was spending some time with his 10 year old sister in the woods, when an enraged moose came towards them. Using experience from the well known World of Warcraft they managed to survive the attack by using a skill called "feign death". In WoW terms this is a skill you learn when hitting level 30 as a Hunter. This skill enables the hunter to avoid being killed by opposing threats by acting like he is dead. The skill became very useful for the young boy when the moose attacked his younger sister and afterwards launched an attack at him.By taunting the enraged moose a lot of times and repeatedly getting its attention with a stick, he gave his sister a chance to escape. When the moose had focus on him, he tried to run and jump away from the moose. Eventually he was attacked in the back, but his bag took the hit. As he was laying on the ground he got kicked a few times, but survied due to the fact that the moose thought he was dead.
Hans explains:
"When you hit level 30, you learn a new skill called 'feign death'. Thats what I did, I lay down as if I was dead, and then the moose lost interest in me"
This is not the first nor probably last time that we will see an online game help save peoples live. Often computer games are associated to young students making scattering attacks at colleges, but this time the experience gained in games proved out to be useful in the real life.

Well not to diminish WoW educational influence but i am fairly sure there is a parable in aesop's fables that teaches the same thing....
I am just glad he didn't try kiting it :) Glad the kid survived and saved his sister who says gamers are cowards in rl :D | |
