We are quickly approaching warmer and even longer days with the summer knocking on our doors. But that is not all for Norwegian highschool graduates as we have something called "Russefeiring" for people attending their last year of highschool here in Norway. The celebrations which lasts from 1-17. May includes, drinking, partying, concerts and various events. It ends the 17th of May on Norways national day where both "Russ" and other people walk in the streets of the town waving flags and what not. It might look something like this: http://www.cavinguk.co.uk/holidays/MoreOslo2005/normal/Russ.jpg. The color of the Russ is based on what highschool subjects or courses you take. Just for the record, I'm a red Russ, similar to what you see in the link. A "Russ" has to wear some sort of official Russ clothing which you can view in the url above. The hat or cap if you like, is not only for show but also works when you have to show off which "russeknuter" you have managed to do. These "russeknuter" are tasks which you performe and then receive a symbol in a long cord hanging from your cap. Example: If someone does a task which grants them a toothbrush they have to hang that toothbrush in their cap. I'm going to list up the different "russeknuter" for my own highschool and try to explain what symbol you receive in your cap if performed (two other fellow Russ has to actually watch you do it). There are offical russeknuter for each region in Norway, but since there are like 14234235 I'll just list up some from my highschool. Russeknuter (Symbol in cap): - Put a coin in someones ass crack without them knowing / (The same coin) - Draw a mustage and glasses on someone sleeping in class / (mustage) - Walk backwards the entire school day / (Mirror) - Rais your hand three times in class and say: "I have to take a SHIT!" / (toilet paper) - Copy 10 copies of your ass on the schools copier / (piece of the copy) - Get people on the buss to join you in song / (buss logo) - 5 Vodka shots in 20 seconds / (Gun powder of some sort) - 5 autographs on your underwear from the opposite sex during the lunch break / (Pencil) - Walk a fish (like you walk the dog) for an entire day / (Fish) - Wear a helmet for an entire school day / (sticking plaster) - Go on rollerblades for an entire school day / (wheel) - Applaud the teacher after the class / (hand) - Order in food from a takeout place in class and have it delivered in class / (logo from the takeout joint) - Drunk for 48 hours / (piece of asparin package) The list goes on and on, and there are quite a few internal ones like hugging the inspector, flirting with a freshman for an entire day, stalking a freshman the entire lunch break and various things with ceartin people. Sounds awesome, ofcourse untill it involves yourself getting pranked XD Sounds a little simular to "Hoedjes". Hoedjes, being 100 days before graduating. Lot's of crazy stuff has been done in our school on Hoedjes every year XD I remember them locking all teachers up in one classroom. Barricading the school entrance with stacks of tires. Putting on all sorts of costumes and have giant water pistols n stuff. If the classes on Hoedjes have enough ideas, it's a nice day too look forward too ^^ I don't suffer from insanity. I enjoy every minute of it!

glad I`m not russ.. Waste much money (average is about 4-5$k)on nothing.. This also happens at same time as u have to take deciding exams.. Guess i`m not a party animal:P

I guess almost all countries has it's own highschool traditions =p Here in Brazil we've got some .. nor only when you finish your highschool, but also when you're "welcomed" to the college/university.
