Now the most talked about match-up in the game Night Elf vs Orc. The mass talons strat was invincible in the 1.17 patch before the Firelord, Beastmaster nerf and is still strong to this day while it went through some minor changes.

How the Mass talons started. Mass talons strategy first was officially used by Magic Yang. While he lost to Zacard playing this strategy, Moon made some changes with the mass talons strategy to use it in the finals vs Zacard to sweep him 3:0.

Mass Talons 1.0 (Magic Yang vs Zacard WEG 1)
MY basically went KotG-Firelord and went Archers Mass Talons. The strat worked pretty well right after Cyclone was gotten but as Zacard added the Panda and the Blademaster was too much for the weak intellegent heros MY lost as his micro isn't really that top class.

Mass Talons 2.0 (Moon vs Zacard WEG 1)
This was the famous DH-BM-FL strat that started the whole mass talons imba and this has been done so many times you should know it already...

Mass Talons 2.1
After Firelord was nerfed, and mass raiders started becoming more used vs them, adding a Tinker whose summons owned the raiders became famous as they could be used to create chokepoints and could also tank. KoTg has been used in this situation as well.

here are some general things that make playing Orc ever so hard vs Night Elf players.

*Demon Hunter- This is what's causing many of the problems for the Orc players as since Farseer is hard countered with the Demon Hunter and a few wisps early game, it maes it impossible to use him in this matchup. Chain Lightning is costly and Demon Hunter will burn harras him to death which will make his early game creeping abilities not so useful. Since Farseer can't be used as second hero, most of the players go Blademaster ever since Zacard made it popular in that game vs Sky.

*Blademaster- Blademaster is a great harraser and he is best vs Undeads early game as ghouls can't focus on him well and he can keep the DK in base as UD has no good tier 1 healing and since fiends are slow during tier 1, creep jacking becomes a nice oppurtunity too. But vs Night Elf, almost all players these days block off wisps with buildings making worker harras almost meaningless with the moon wells around so his basic use early game is to kill building in process or to creepjack the army. While the Blademaster can kill buiding in process very nicely, the Orc player needs to be careful as mana burns make creep jacking hard. The Orc can gain an advantage by taking out few of the archers early game during the creepjack but with moonwells and a DH around will be hard to do unless you catch the NE out from his base.

*Orc's Problems vs NE tech- You might think that if NE is teching with a few archers straight to tier 2 a mass grunt rush should easily beat it but it's not the case. NE's base is real strong vs the Orc army as the Orc army will be full melee and the cramped bases will make attacking archers not possible without taking a beating from the Ancient of Wars. Moreso, the time of the rush will most likely come at night and as Night Elf has the advantage of hiding archers and the moon well support, cracking a NE base will be too hard and he can delay the Orc player until he reaches tier 2 where the Beastmaster with quillbeasts will come to kill the red health grunts.

Upon tier 2, more problems arise even if you rushed or havent. You most likely would be going beastiary for the Orc's strong tier 2 units where the NE player will most likely go dual AoL or dual AoWind and taking them down is the real turning point of the game but as burrows will become real vurneble from this time on, attacking the Night Elf at this timing is very hard. Tier 2 for Night Elf is short lived as they go straight for tier 2 while massing bears or talons. If the Orc has killed many or the archers or hunts during early game is where the Orc player can most likely take the decinding advantage here with ensnare but with summons and ranged picking at your grunts, a fight in the NE base will be suicuide, so your best bet is to creepjack but that easier said then done.
Then the fight drags on and in the end NE wins^^;

OK i got bored of writing this so I'll just activate it,,,
sorry for the half assed thing

and sadly, blizzard seems to have no intention of changing this matchup. also it doesn't really help that the ne fanboys are well and alive, still claiming ne-orc not imba... gimme a break even moon said orc is EASY

Maybe people should try and come up with some ideas on this instead of just flaming the entire thing or making inreasonable proposals. I haven't been playing wc3 long at all, but I do understand the issue.

Human has changed from being called the weakest race to be even being called imba these days and it started with them ditching the Rifle/Caster they used in every matchup and using different strategies like going to Tier 3 which was thought to be meaningless at the time.

Maybe a genious Orc player needs to come up with something like that to change the state of the game right now as Grunt/Raider can only go so far these days..

word Asuka :P Grubby was trying with hhs first to tauren, but I guess the build needs some work. In the end he had way too many hhs when he played vs Moon (I think it was) using that strategy.

If anyone saw the Elake vs Diesel replay on tr, I was struck by how much tier 3 would have dominated Diesel. That hawk that killed like, 2 pults, 3 kodos and a hero could have been turned into a useless skill if the bm had been equiped with an orb of lightning. Likewise, some bats with liquid fire could have harassed Diesels main, stoping his creeping and forcing him to make more dryads that are easily destroyed by pults. Something like 3 bats would have been enough for that.

As you said, rifle/caster is strong, but when players of equal skill meet it almost always fails now. Human has transformed with the help of ToD, Spell, Inso and XyLigan into what is probably the strongest race around. It's time for orc to make a run for that title :)

Dont forget, early ROC days, mass talons was heavily abused by players such as Tillerman/MaDFroG and stuff and to this date remains a really gay strat ><

aren't you forgetting Sky in there?
Insomnia and Sky are the first to ditch the rifle/caster style as far as I know... ToD hasn't made a trademark strat of his own yet^.-
He plays damn well though~

As usual, it's almost impossible to know who used what strat first. What becomes important is who makes certain strats popular. ToD popularized the mass tanks vs undead for example. Even if it isn't used much anymore it's basically because it's lame, not because it's easy to stop.

Sky has been leading the evolution of human for a long time, but around the time when human started to transform from "weak" to "imba" I didn't see his name appear too often. But that probably has more to do with what forum you hang on more than anything else :)

I really should have mentioned Bjarke too :) He's the one who popularized the human staff basically, using knights against elf. Phew, there are just too many inventive humans out there! It's funny, because the least inventive have been undead and orc. You are your race perhaps? Orc brain and undead brain etc...
