I know a lot of you have thought about why your mobil phone comes with the name it has. No? Well, this blog might enlighten you whether you like it or not.

There is in fact a strict logic behind the seemingly random numbers and letters on phones like Nokia 6680, Sony Ericsson W800i and Samsung D600.

The letters describing Sony Ericssons different models have a specific function, believe it or not. They describe the models format, for example if the phone is a camshell-, flip- or a so called bare phone. This is what the different letters in Sony Ericssons phones represent:

- T, J, K = Bare phone
- S = shuffle phone
- W = Walkman phone
- P = Pro phone
- V or F = Models for Vodafone

In additon to the letters, Sony Ericsson has models with numbers. How high the nubmer is - often determines how advanced the phone is in many cases.

Another big mobile phone company, located in Finland, Nokia, uses four numbers when they hand out names for their models. The first number often describes the type of phone your dealing with. Below you'll find what that number actually means:

- 1 and 2 = Simple phones
- 3 = Designed for the younger generation, teenagers etc.
- 5 = Robust phones (Often Shock/Waterproof)
- 6 = Business phones
- 7 = Fashion - media phones
- 8 = Luxury phones
- 9 = "communicators"

The reason behind Nokia not having the number '4' in their models is because it's looked upon as bad luck in big countries like China, Japan and Korea, since the prenunciation of the word resembles the word "death".

The second number in Nokias models refers to the functions that the phone enhances. For example, '2' represents a camera, and '4' represents the mp3 function.

The third number describes the phones network. 1, 4 and 9 represent GSM.

And last but not least, the fourth number stands for which production series the current phone represents.

I seem like on of the few people that gets the creep out of a cell phone XD I had one a year ago, but I kept getting messaged with the most stupid messages by anyone, and then I get some more asking why the heck I'm not responding. It just made me get rid of the thing asap. Atleast people now know they can only reach me by coming over for a visit when its urgent, or just mailing me and allowing me my own time to respond.
