Germans always try to be politically correct. Well, not so much my generation of Germans (for which I am very grateful), but definitely those above, say, 40 years of age.

So it is should not at all be surprising to hear that German politicians and especially a friendliy Bavarian named Günther Beckstein (-> http://www.hanfjournal.de/demoplakate/big/beckstein_beckstein.jpg ) have recently become almost obsessed with prohibiting what they call "Killerspiele", Killers' Games. Yup, you right there, you're a killer! And you! And you! You're not... but YOU are!
What is suprising is the way this glorious idea has been presented. Over and over again you hear about Counter Strike as the game where you get rewarded for shooting children, being able to piss on corpses, having to rape as many women as possible and so on and so forth. Same thing with Quake and Doom.
So while I as an RTS/RPG-player was still regretting how I always start playing the wrong games, something occurred to me:
Being the intelligent person he is, Mr Beckstein can't have expected anyone to fall for his bullshit - but obviously he felt is was coherent enough to distract people from his real intention.

And here is where being German becomes important:
Germans, aka the-people-saying"ACKTUNG HERR HAUPTMANN! EIN PANZER!" are currently ranked second among the ranks of the most killed being in videogames, still edging muslim terrorists. So who would be more ideal to empathize with the most tormented being: the Alien!
Us Germans have done enough to deserve being shot a million times, so have terrorists. But what about Aliens? What tells us that they are not way more harmless, friendly, educated, and if not that than at least more tasty and thus a more worthwhile victim for their conspecifics than we are? Yet we keep on seeing these poor cuddly beings only as projections of ourselves: cruel, aggressive, bad breath.
Not so Mr Beckstein. He has realized how unfair our society has become and fights for other species' rights. Truly a man worthy of leading... err, nothing currently, but maybe one day. He'd have my vote for sure.
