This was something I wrote for MYM but it didn't get posted.. so the community, I'd really like your opinion about the actions of the WSVG? Take a second to think about before you go bad mannering this game though please :)
Today the president of the World Series of Video Games, Matthew Ringel, announced important news in the form of a video, which gave information about the tournaments venues, brand new titles, and the $750,000 prize money.
This announcement from the WSVG was very surprising to most of us, for one main reason, the new games that they had announced. Theyve announced three new games that you would never think to see at WSVG.
The first title is World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade, the expansion was just released in January. With this release, they created a new arena style of play, which makes way for rankings and a ladder system similar to Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne. This game has taken the world by storm, having 8.5 million users worldwide is yet another phenomenon for Blizzard. The WSVG will use the three verses three PVP Arena format and World of Warcraft will be replacing Counter-Strike 1.6 as the main PC title.
The next game is Fight Night Round 3 for console by EA Sports. This game is known for its astonishing graphics and amazing like life boxing experience. It is by far the best boxing game on the market but is it right for e-Sports?
The last game is probably the most surprising of them all, it is Guitar Hero II. Yes, the game where you literally hold a guitar and press the correct buttons that are laid out on the screen. Players will take the place of a regular musician; the event will be similar to American Idol. There will be live judges, which will criticize the performers on talent and their live performance. So get your leather jackets, long hair, and some groupies ready.
Along with all of these titles, you will still see many familiar titles such as Warcraft III: The Frozen throne, Counter-Strike 1.6, Halo 2, Quake 4, and Call of Duty 2 in certain circuits.
The tournament, which will venture through six different regions will start May 1st, 2007 in China and will end in Sweden.
The six stops are as listed:
Wuhan, China (April 30 - May 3)
Louisville, KY (June 21-24)
Dallas, TX (July 5 - 8)
Orlando, FL (Aug. 23 - 26)
Europe Major (October)
Jönköping, Sweden (Nov. 29 - Dec. 2)
Check out www.thewsvg.com to see the video and for more details on the circuit along with registration.

Opinion:
My question is, are all of these games mainstream e-Sport worthy? They might as well added Madden, I think it is the right direction to attract new people to the scene but I think old fans might be a little disappointed. |
