So the topic rages on, which is the ultimate? RTS (Real Time Strategy) or FPS (First Person Shooter). You may have read my Boxer vs Fatal1ty article which got a few people mad at me, well if that didn't this probably will.

For as long as I can remember I've been playing RTS, Warcraft I where the cheats made both you and the computer nearly invincible. Around this time something was happening with FPS as well, Quake showed it's head. WarCraft and Quake are both game sagas you should know, or you're at the wrong website. Both games are trend setters and brought upon new styles.

Lets stick to RTS for now shall we? WarCraft I,II,III. StarCraft, WarHammer, LOTR Battle for Middle Earth, Ages Of Empire(and the whole huge set).. What do all of these have in common? They require quick and cunning thought processes that no other game style in the world brings. It's Chess, but exciting with a few exceptions such as split-second decisions that could cause life or death. The fastest possible hand eye coordination needed on earth to play with the best and no need for graphics to make it a good game.

Blizzard : The best example one could ever think of for RTS games. Warcraft and Starcraft, the two best selling RTS games world wide. Both still played world wide, and in Korea Starcraft is a way of life. How many places on earth have 2 channels dedicated to a COMPUTER GAME, bring in crowds of over 100,000 people to a final and hand out millions of dollars a year? The only thing that comes close is a mix of CPL/CAL/WSVG, but we'll get to that so hold on.

WarCraft III, has become the only "Mainstream" RTS game played on the worldwide circuit. The graphics and the game play are over-shadowed by the king of games WoW. Though, much like Starcraft it is very popular in Korea, but also has a Chinese partner which shares the lover of the game.

The First time I played a FPS was Duke Nukem.. How couldn't you love that game? The senseless violence and a look of Duke for gamers is probably more famous than the golden arch. Doom and Quake were also around that time, a few times I played doom and Quake. I must admit it was fun and provided hours of entertainment so this is not a FPS bash.

Quake I,II,III,IIII. Counter Strike. Unreal Tournament. Halo 1, 2 (a lot of debate here). ET/RTCW. Various others(James Bond/Perfect Dark/AA).. I've played all of those except for Q4 and ET/RTCW so I'm not new to that at all.

I was hoping to get someone deep into FPS to do this section for me, but after midnight it's hard to find people..
Counter Strike, I wouldn't be wrong to say this is the most known PC game of all time, it has the ultimate style one could ask for.. Turn base buyouts, making it I find personally the best FPS game to watch. The guns, the sounds and the graphics are all top notch if you're playing that hideous "Source". 1.6 is the True Counter strike, much like Final Fantasy 7. This game has been around about the same time as Starcraft and has always butted heads with the RTS giant, because of graphics though it's taken the spotlight.

Quake, this game I don't know what else to say but it's the only thing that will ever come close to the speed of an average/good RTS player. DeathMatch is an amazing game style, 1 on 1 battle trying to get the top score in a 15 minute period. Fast paced leaving spectators loving every minute. With it's 10th year since Quake it's shown to be a breakthrough game.

So lets sum up a bit here, RTS and FPS. If you've played them both you obviously have your own favourite and your reasons why. Mine is RTS because of the mental focus it takes, the different strategies that are have to be used depending on the map, your race and your opponent.. Making this game require more thought process throughout the entire game and faster movements to control more than one thing on your screen.

I ask you to post which is you're favourite of these 2 and why, I'll do more of these later including MMORPG to both of these. So let me know because this is a topic that as long as there are gamers and developers will always be around.

Don't forget about TBS too...that is if anyone bothers to play those any more.

Any how, as far as RTS is concerned it's kind of a two way tie between StarCraft, and WarCraft 3, since they both appeal to me for a couple of different reasons, mostly because WarCraft 3 is more updated than StarCraft, but StarCraft has that good Sci-Fi theme though.

With FPS, I mostly like Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, just because I like to actually be at the ground level shooting at things sometimes, rather than up in the air commanding others to shoot for me.

It is human to err, to really screw up you need a computer!

It was almost 1am when I wrote it :P C&C is a good RTS that decided to branch off to FPS where it lost all of it's gaming credability.

Good article, specially for those diverse gamers out there.

My favorite FPS would have to be Counter-strike, as bad as it can get, controlled enviroment competition it can get really exciting. My other FPS choice is Quake3, very fast paced, but at the same time you must think like you are in a RTS.

My favorite RTS games are AoM (Age of mythology, this game never got the publicity it deserved) And I gotta say SC, for the simple fact of I never really played WC3 but twice :x.

Turn based games or TBS are amazing too though, my favorites are heroes of might and magic, and Age of Wonders.
