EU LCS Season 3 Week 2 Day 2 Recap

In this article we make a recap of each of the games that took place in day 2 of the 2nd week of play at EU LCS Season 3.

Sunday afternoon saw 4 more matches of the European LCS Season 3 take place, as Evil Geniuses, Dragonborns, Giants Gaming, SK Gaming, Gambit Gaming and Copenhagen Wolves partaked in the matches of the last day of week 2.

Evil Geniuses vs Giants Gaming

First match of the day would see the Spanish team of Giants Gaming facing off against the all-mighty European mix from Evil Geniuses. Coming into the match, Giants Gaming were sitting at 1 win and 1 loss, while Evil Geniuses comfortably sat at 4 wins against only 1 loss.

This game started out without any kind of crazy early plays, as both teams secured their buffs without any complications, moving into the laning phase, the Spaniards from Giants Gaming decided to swap their bot lane with their top lane, sending Kog´Maw and Zyra top against Wickd´s Renekton, and left Elise alone in the bot lane to face Varus and Sona from Evil Geniuses.

Not a lot of early of aggression was put up by either team in the first minutes, although a gank from Evil Geniuses´s Snoopeh almost took down Exterminare from Giants Gaming. Morde from Giants Gaming quickly replied to the aggression and almost secured a kill over Snoopeh, but was ultimately forced to flash away when things got messy.

The first turret of the game would go to Giants Gaming as their lane swap allowed their ADC and Support to take down the outer turret on the top lane just as the clock reached the 5 minute mark. Evil Geniuses would not take long to respond with a tower from their own, as a 3 man push in the bottom lane allowed them to secure the outer turret, leaving the gold counters bang even for both teams.

Just as the clock reached the 16 minute mark, the Spaniards prepared themselves to secure their first Dragon of the game, but little did they know it would turn out disastrously for them. As Evil Geniuses approached the Dragon pit the fight kicked off, with Morde falling first from Giants Gaming it was only a matter of seconds for his teammate Samux to also go down, allowing Evil geniuses to now take their 2nd Dragon of the game, granting them a comfortable 6k gold advantage.

From there on, Evil Geniuses only had to play it safe while they secured objective after objective in the map. Eventually, as the clock reached the 31 minute mark Evil Geniuses decided to push down the bot lane, which caused a big fight as both teams clashed in the bottom lane inner turret of Giants Gaming. With a gold advantage of more than 9k, Evil Geniuses managed to easily obliterate 3 of the Spaniards from the map. Just 3 minutes later, Evil Geniuses had already taken down the 3 inhibitors from Giants Gaming, which allowed them to comfortably secure Baron and prepare for one final push.

As we reached the 35 minute mark, and with a 16k gold advantage, Evil Geniuses decided to commit to a final push, which allowed them to secure an easy triple kill and take down the nexus from Giants Gaming. With this victory Evil Geniuses now see themselves leading the rankings with 5 wins and only a single loss.

SK Gaming vs Dragonborns

An interesting 2nd match awaited for us, as Dragonborns looked to secure their first victory of the season, while SK Gaming looked to keep up with the winning streak from Evil Geniuses in order to remain close to the top positions of the ranking.

Unlike in many of the past games this season, we did get to see a jungle invade in this game, as Malunoo from DragonBorns made his way into the blue buff from SK Gaming while 3 of his teammates pressured the red buff in order to distract SK Gaming from what was really happening, By the time Shen realized Malunoo was on his blue buff, it was already too late. With the early steal, DragonBorns secured themselves an small early lead.

As we were approaching the 3 minute mark, a well timed aggression from Taric and Draven in the bottom lane allowed Hosan and his Draven to secure first blood as well as a 900 gold advantage. This first blood for Hosan already spelled disaster for SK Gaming, as all of us who watched the EU LCS Season 3 qualifier were well aware of what he is capable to do with Draven.

A well timed gank on the top lane as well as an early Dragon allowed DragonBorns to further extend their gold lead to over 2k gold as the clock reached the 15 minute mark. With both the bot and top outer turrets down, DragonBorns moved on to pressure the mid turret in hopes of taking it down as well.

Just as SK Gaming seemed to be mounting a comeback around the 30 minute mark, Shushei from DragonBorns managed to land a beautiful combo with his Lux in order to melt down 2 of SK Gaming members in the mid lane. This double kill allowed DragonBorns to finally take down the outer turret in the mid lane.

Back again in the driving seat, DragonBorns played the farm game for some mor eminutes, until on minute 44 they managed to pick a 4 for nothing in the mid lane, which ultimately allowed them to push down the mid lane into the nexus of SK Gaming thus granting them their first win of the season. With this win, DragonBorns is now sitting at 1-1, while SK Gaming sits at 3-3.

Gambit Gaming vs Copenhagen Wolves:

Coming into this game, the clear favorites for the game were the Russians from Gambit Gaming, even though they were sitting at a not so good record of 1 win and 2 losses in the season prior to the match. The Danes from Copenhagen Wolves werent doing much better either, as they were sitting in last place of the rankings with a 0 3 score prior to the game.

As many others so far in this season, this game started out fairly slow as both teams decided to take the passive route to supremacy in this game. We had to wait until minute 9 to see blood dropped in the summoners rift, as a countergank from the Wolves in the mid lane allowed them to secure a double kill as they managed to secure a kill on Alex Ich and Diamond. Luckily for Gambit Gaming, the double kill from the Danes didn't give them any gold advantage, as the gold remained even at 11.5 k for each team.

For the next minutes, the game became a bit more interesting, as both teams traded some kills and map objectives. As the clock reached the 20 minute mark the gold remained fairly even with just an slight advantage of 800 gold for Copenhagen Wolves, who were also leading the scoreboard 5-2. In the next minutes, the Danes managed to further extend their lead into a fairly comfortable 5k gold lead 27 minutes into the game, also extending their lead in the scoreboard to 10-2 and securing a well deserved Baron.

Unfortunately for Copenhagen Wolves, Gambit Gaming surprisingly managed to mount a comeback in the next minutes, up to a point where they were back in the driver's seat at minute 37. At this point in the game Gambit Gaming was sitting on a comfortable 3k gold advantage despite being down 6 kills.

Just as the clock reached the 40 minute mark, a fight broke out in the upper side of the Copenhagen Wolves jungle, Gambit Gaming managed to play that fight to perfection, securing themselves a 5 for nothing and further extending their gold lead to up to 5k. With all of the players from Copenhagen Wolves down, Gambit Gaming quickly pushed down the mid lane to finally destroy the enxus fromt he Danes and secure their 3rd vi9ctory of the season. Unfortunately for the Wolves, it was not to be and they were now sitting at 4 losses and no wins this season.

Copenhagen Wolves vs Giants Gaming

Last game of the day would see Copenhagen Wolves still fighting for their first win of the season, while Giants Gaming would be looking to even out their score for the day with 1 win after having lost to Evil Geniuses in the first match of the day.

Considering how important this match was for both teams, they both decided to play it safe and farm for the first minutes of the game, deciding against any kind of shenanigans early on. First blood would eventually arrive at minute 6, as Morden from giants Gaming managed to sneak into the 2nd top lane bush, allowing him and Samux to tower spane Godbro and secure the kill. That first blood allowed Giants Gaming to secure a 1k gold advantage over the Danes.

Copenhagen Wolves did their best to farm for the next minutes, and even managed to secure 1 kill, allowing them to slowly crawl back into the game. At minute 15 of the game, the advantage of Giants Gaming had dissipated and was now only of 200 gold.

For the next 15 minutes, the gold would rmeain fairly even, as both teams exchanged towers and kills, while farming their lanes. Just as the clock reached the 30 minute mark, the Copenhagen Wolves managed to take down the first inhibitor turret of the game, as they successfully pushed down the middle lane. Giants Gaming were having none of that, and quickly move on to secure Baron, which allowed them to extend their gold lead to a considerable 6k.

For the next minutes both teams would try and push lanes to no avail, but just as the clock marked 38 minutes, a 5v5 teamfight broke out in the mid lane near the base of Giants Gaming, The fight turned great for the Spaniards as Jimbonz secured a quadra kill with his Ashe, allowing his team to further push the gold lead to around 10k gold. With such a big advantage, Giants Gaming easily won the last fight of the game with a 4 to 2 exchange, allowing them to push down the mid lane all the way to the nexus. which they managed to easily take down.

With this, Copenhagen Wolves ends the 2nd week of the season with no wins yet as they sit last in the rankings with a 0-5 record. Giants Gaming is now sitting on 2 wins and 2 losses.
