Picking Lesson

For any pro player from all over the world,i think it's very important to share some strategy and lessons about picking heroes. since in many high level games,still happened an outpicked condition.

i hope all of you share your strategy about picking.

umm well in pubs it doesnt really matter cuz lol 5 hero counters can be defeated by 5 heros depending on how they play.

In serious games its always good to have a lineup of aoe, stuns, globals whetever. Now i havent played that many serious games myself but from replays of teams there are many strats such mass global (zeus, spectre, furion etc) which is used a alot by SK. Then theres also a commonly know mass aoe strat that so many teams use often ( QOP Leshrac ES Jakiro )

If you are playing a draft game with hero bans then usually Nerubian Assassin and beastmaster are solid bans since .48b days. Or you can trick your opponents into pickin g one of them if u have a counter strat in mind. Mirana is always a good first pick since she is so versatile and can face a vast number of lineups. Silencer is also a good counter to a number of strats mostly when they all jus jumping in and ulti'ng.

I know i just said some basic things although i have a lot more in my head but i cant think of much right now. Hopefully i got the ball rolling here and others can suggest more things in this thread

who is the top first pick and last pick heroes,and why do you choose them? what i'm talking about is not in pubs games,since i need to learn picking in 1-2-2-2-2-1 order.

some heroes always picked in 2 heroes pick such as lich.. anyone mind sharing some strat?
i hope this thread could make people play dota better.

First picks are like zeus warlock na bm potm qop, zeus for heavy nuke and aoe, warlock for pushing power and initiative aoe stun + heal/babysit, na / bm for gank and bird (vision), potm a good allrounder and carry/semi carry, qop is one hero that seldom fails , ah also omni, imba in team fight!

what about the second pick that contain two hero pick. is it used for combo lane or something? in what order should i pick? is it depends on the strat i played? share ur picking strat please =)

The best first pick in 6.52 would be zeus (unless ur trying to do some weird strat but zeus really is perhaps the best hero for cws atm).

In 6.52 its best to pick a balanced lineup where u try to achieve and balance all of these 3 things in those 5 heroes - 5v5 power (levi,es,zeus,treant etc), late game (spec,dk,skel etc) and initiation (puck,levi etc). Extra synergies between the heroes are always welcome ofc (zeus+spectre for example)

I believe its not wise nor effective to try any other strats unless ur players are actually capable of executing them properly. The well-rounded lineup works just fine even if some of the players are not so great or well organised.

First you have to think about which heroes get banned.

People like to ban omni (imba supporter) , brood (free win), Zeus( global), Spectre (global ganking), TB (best late game hero atm), DK (awesome slow at lvl 16, puck (imba ganker, support, many disables, mass damage, escaping skills), Warlock (heal, imba initiate hero, imba ulti), Dazzle (heal, slow, ulti), Nerubian (imba damage output, best ganker, next to spectre), ES ( when he has dagger, your team can basically ff, best initiator), Rexxar(maphack, ulti stun, slow), Lich (armor >> melee, slow, ULTI DAMAGE!), Tidehunter (can block stuns, imba aoe ulti), Necrolyte (heal, heal, ulti = imba late game vs tanks), chen (heal, good ganker), Mirana (nice farmer in the right hands), QoP (blink, ulti, mass damage output slow), meepo (often banned when eu/us plays asia, meepo is an often used hero in asia)

These are basically all heroes that get banned. But as you can see there are more than 8 heroes monetioned, actually 18. So there are still 10 of them to be used and you try to choose than the most important and some other picks like 1-2-3 carry heroes (the heroes that own late game), wardboys (heroes that buy only wards and dont steal creeps from their lan partner), supporter heroes (like necro, dazzle, wl, omni to heal and slow and gank) and sometimes roaming heroes like na, venge etc. to roam over the map.

When you play, you use i.e. a stun hero with a slow hero at a lane to get easy kills. You also say from beginning, this hero is solo to level faster to be imba late game and to gank successfully mid game.

This should be a short summary. Only logical thinking.

lol at some of the lame strats here. Yea go lothars and blink in a scrim. Especially on Omni. Im sure no one is gonna get wards, gem or a book 3 and just gonna let u run around. You pro man.

Lothars on omni works in really really bad public xD

in a 1/3/1 strat it works
- 1 carry - rikimaru
- 3 support - brood(hex for mana), bondar (mordigian) and na gogogoog vendeta stun refresher stun inviz and run to escape (hit and run strat)
- 1 scarry - omni with lothar and blink

and lothar = best item cuz none can c u

#16 ofc we arent pros and we cant play like pros but it is funny to discuss some DotA related things xD

The problem my "invis" enemies have is that I buy at least 4 sentries to cover our route to the main tower to catch up invis heroes xD That is the way to own public xD
