ESL have either made a revolution, or a big mess of this, and by the looks of it, it looks like a big mess. ESL have decided to replace one of the most used RTS of all time (wc3) with the other blizzard RPG game, WoW.

I hate this, why should they replace wc3 with WoW, which doesnt have a big E-sports following, and most people probably wouldnt even like to watch 2 people duelling in my opinion.

Your views on this?~

#2 Skills? What skills?!
All you have to do is hit your best spell or ability and use trinkets. I don't know, I'm pretty much the noob in this area, but telling from the observations I think that there is just a few more things that they do in the game :S, but again thats just my opinion.
IMO they should try it out with WoW, since there's a lot people playing it, but to replace it with W3 OMG! Maybe they think W3 will die out when SCII comes out so they replacing it earlier...

Well if you want a game with real arena skills take guild wars xD

Adding WoW is fine imo. Removing Wc3 is plain stupid -_-

WoW can be compared to DotA in this case. It might be fun to play from time to time, but it is utter shit as a spectator sport.

#Pazek, my max level is 13-14, but i watch 70 lvl guys going on raids and pvp almost everyday, and I can't see any major skilled that is needed :S, but you're right I can't talk about it since I don't play it.
Gotta agree with icyF, I think that WoW will be a hit but it'll become boring really fast.

baksuz....wow isnt about leveling up, thats for no-life people that end up raiding every day to get tier6 items.

this (if it is what i think it is) is arena competition, most likely 3v3 teams, it requires much more skills than for example dota so it more than deserves to be in there. it is different when you see some noob videos people made on youtube, them in full s3 noob-bashing s1 geared people in arena with 2shots, etc., i agree wow sucked hard because of that but now blizzard is improving it alot

there is a server specifically made for arena matches where every player has access to all equipment in the game, thus removing the gear-advantage issue. they are trying to make it more professional and as i said, it isnt just about clicking your skills button, things you have to follow at same time and coordinate alone grants this game a certain level of respect.

not to mention wow brings alot of money and has a large fanbase, so basically game is very fun to watch and brings sponsors, after all esports are all about money and who pays the most, otherwise we wouldnt see wannabe titles added in esports but only true games like sc, wc3, quake, etc.

yes btw, regarding best player - due to wow being split in servers you usually know who is the top class of each server (though thats mostly like - im the best so who can prove me wrong), as for the ultimate wow player - dunno, but with this one server where all people can hang out it will be easier to determine who is the best as slowly certain teams will build up a name or themselves, due to this im afraid wow wont have that much spectators in usa offline events until it grows as a competitive offline game.

Dendra, you are a passionate man for things that you enjoy, and love to bash the things you don't enjoy or don't understand. While there should be no mocking of what skills it takes to win a WoW-match, you should neither neglect that the best DotA-teams are using the same time for practice and preparation as the WoW-players.

So you can't say that one thing is better, harder or requires more skill than the other. In this example you can't compare the two, simply because the first one is an RTS-kindda thing, whereas the second is MMORPG-style.

i am not a fan of wow nor dota, i tried both and have seen highest level of performance so i know what i'm comparing.

i use dota because nobody whines about it being enlisted on tours and suddenly we see this reaction for wow so im just putting down some facts.

wow requires equal practice/skill to perfect teamwork and control of your unit. however in wow you have to follow several targets at same time (yes i know, microing hero and a chicken is incredible multitasking, forgive my sarcasm i know it aint just about that), doing specific things to each one of them, and with action being very, very fast you dont have much time, you have to act quick, not to mention it is humans you play against so you're faced with 3targets, each moving in its own direction and you have to keep doing for example your main task, secondary taks, etc. and still remain in sight of your healer (if your team setup is that way, cuz some teams just rely on heavy nuke) at the right time, not like healer's life is any easier, he has to follow his teammates to assist, also follow enemies to use crucial skills so positioning and teamwork is very important.

wow is a complete game..game..it isnt that simple, yes i know it still needs to be balanced some more(but as do 99% of other games) but it has just entered true competitive gaming so instead of bashing it, it would be nicer that we look at it with an open mind and support it as it really is a good game. btw yes, you can say one thing is harder than other, like some fps are more based on teamwork other are based on individual skill (quake-cs relation for example) wow is more complicated than many titles in esports, as for the practice time and preparations - guitar hero requires hours of practice, does it mean it deserves to be called an esport?

Dendra you obviously know much more than me on this subject so I'm gonna stop acting like a wise-ass.
I don't know how skill is being measured, but from what I've seen I don't think it takes a lot of skill to be good, but yet again I've never played at 70th lvl so I can't say for sure.
All I can say for sure is that it would be a HUGE step forward for eSports if only half of the WoW community becomes attracted to it. Imagine ~4.5 mil. new members oO <3

np baksuz, im just saying people should first try it and then judge it...i know i also thought "geez i just press 1,2,3,4,1,2..", honestly until lvl51 for hunter it is like that, but anyhow, at level70 balance between classes changes completely, i mean dont get me wrong im not 2k+ rating player, i just had my share of games there to see how others play and play against good teams to know what it takes.

basically arena is also about balancing your gear/spec and about every member of the team capable of doing some damage - that's why lvl70 is needed as with a healer class you can make a good spec that does both healing and dps in arena, not to mention classes like warrior which really dominate on lvl70, whereas on 60 for example hunter can solo him with no problems whatsoever.

btw - being good is relative i mean wow aint such a fuss, it's easy to figure out your class, problem is you have to know every class well to understand game better and most important part is teamwork, which is equally hard for all games.

P.S. only thing i dislike in wow are macro keys and extra add-ons, i mean with proper setup you can perform very well without much stress, i was always for doing everything by yourself so im not sure what rules will be implemented there, to kinda make some fine line between required macro/addons and the point when pc starts doing more than you do

It's on us to wait and see.
I have to say that I wasn't thrilled when I heard that WoW's in and W3 out, but when I took a look at the big picture I realized how much would a game like that (popularity-wise mostly) benefit the eSports.
If WoW would make the community (a lot) bigger, than a sacrifice like droping W3 in EM would be acceptable.

well look at the big picture, starcraft2 is coming...it will eat alive other rts communities, so naturally there will be some spots left, maybe blizzard is taking steps to such a change already...

WoW takes very little if any skill, end of story. There is some teamwork involved in arenas, but even then it's less teamwork than a counterstrike team would use.

Basically it's CS without the individual skill and with watered down emphasis on teamwork. As far as DOTA vs WoW goes, I'd say DOTA takes a little more teamwork and slightly more individual skill. I'm not a huge fan of DOTA in esports, but it's definitely a better choice than WoW.

Generally skill wise, I'd say SC>Wc3>CS>DOTA>WoW
