MYM looking back on 2006 and into 2007

No, the annual New Years speech hasn’t been forgotten, but like everyone else we are running in “low mode” between Christmas and New Year, so here it is.

2006 – The year that went

Looking back at 2006 we had a fantastic year, both in terms of growth in our community and success-wise for all our teams. But we had ups and downs like all other sports-related teams. Most noticeable “down” was surely our Korean star player Jang 'Moon' JaeHo who had several months with under performance, we can though surely say that he is back as the best WC3 player in the world. Best from the “ups” we most say is our Norwegian Counter-Strike team finally placing MYM on the world map of CS with their outstanding 2nd place at the CPL Championship Finals 2006 in Dallas, USA. A moment to remember was surely also when our other Korean Warcraft 3 star player JaeWook 'Lucifer' Noh won the ESWC 2006.

Also 2006 clearly shows that Esport, which has been seen as a youth phenomenon and as a sub-culture for almost a decade, is here to stay as a serious sport and it is the fastest growing industry in the world. A lot of new private investors, venture capital funds and other economical based companies and organisations have discovered Esport and its potential and have found it worth investing billions of US$ in and it seems like this is still only the tip of the iceberg and that it will continue 2007, to the great pleasure for all of the teams in the industry.

Back to MYM, below are the top 3 placements from our LAN events from 2006,

bp:1 place1:11. places Warcraft III:

(WC3 team) NGL One - Season 1 Finals

 (Moon) Superfight #2 2006
(Moon) Warcraft 3 World War 2006 season #1
(Moon) Warcraft 3 World War 2006 season #2

bp:1 place1:11. places Starcraft:
 (Draco) Dreamhack Summer 2006
 (Advokate) ASUS Open Autumn 2006
 (Raven) Poznan Game Arena 2006

bp:1 place1:11. places DotA:
 (Dota team) Dreamhack Winter 2006

bp:2 place1:22. places Warcraft III:
 (Lucifer) MBCgame's International League (MIL)

bp:2 place1:22. places Counter-Strike:
(CS team) CPL Championship Finals 2006
 (CS team) GameGune 2006

bp:2 place1:22. places Starcraft:

 (Lucifer) IEST 2006
 (Moon) V-Sports All-Stars 2006

bp:3 place1:33. places Starcraft
 (Draco) GGL Americup

Besides the mentioned our teams managed around 60 other award placements in 2006, among them a lot of 2nd and 3rd places in regional WCG, ESWC, CPL, WEG, CPL qualifiers.

We asked a few guys from the MYM staff about how they think 2006 went overall and there answers were:

Sweden Daniel Thornell, MYM Content Manager:

Year 2006 was a very hectic but interesting year for me as I sold my part of my old company that I worked with for 7-8 years. I joined MYM the first of August and my months here have been great. As I’ve been working a lot with Counter-Strike during the years I’m very glad to see MYM as one of the very best teams in Counter-Strike in the end of 2006. MYM is growing everywhere and more and I’m really proud of all people working with the website and our players. You have done a hell of a job and you deserve all the praise the site got the last months. For our readers I can promise that we’ll continue to give you the best, the fastest and everything related to esports you can imagine during 2007. Stay tuned on MeetYourMakers.com!

Lithuania Domas Grecevicius, MYM Lounge Manager:

WOW! This year passed so fast, it's really hard to tell you how it feels, but I think we had a great year and I can honestly say we made a lot of work which we will continue in 2007. For my part I can promise a lot of new things in the MYM Lounge, more content, events and value for money for the Loungers, I will find the right key to your hearts! I would like to wish you a good year in all the ways possible! And I know 2[007] will be even better than 2006.

Denmark Jesper Nordahl, MYM international WC3 Manager:

I think all in all 2006 was a very good year for MYM. Personally I finished my bachelor project and took a huge step towards completing my education. Gaming wise my team did extremely well winning both the WC3L and NGL finals, Lucifer won the ESWC and Korea vs. China nations war, followed by Moon 2 WWW championships and an IEST win which effectively made this the most successful WC3 year ever for the MYM team.

Germany Maik Brodowski, Sales & Media Manager:

With the start of 2006 my second year here at MYM started and it started with an addition to our Warcraft 3 TFT Team, which made it possible that our International Warcraft 3 TFT team was the leading team in 2006 by winning both WC3L Season 9 and NGL One Season 1 and of course we are talking about Spirit_Moon.

There were also a lot of other great tournaments and events where our player and teams participated in, so overall you can say, that Sport wise 2006 was a great year for MYM but Business wise 2006 was a fantastic year.

With a group of Investors, who bought the company behind MYM, the Foundation-stone for MYM to become the leading Esports team in the world was set. Everything got more professional in MYM since that time and it is a great feeling to be a part of the upcoming Nr.1 Esports team in the world.

Denmark Henrik Kepler Andersen, Chief Financial Officer:

As I sit here on the first cold January day and look back upon 2006, I can’t help getting a big smile on my face. Everything around MYM and Regroup Esports A/S has become bigger, better, faster, and I am very exited about the development for 2007.

It would take a long list if I was to write down all achievements from the past year, I will let mark handle that in his speech, but one thing I would like to say, is a big thanks to all our dedicated and loyal crew/staff that have been involved during the year 2006. You have created the, in my opinion, best e-sports community/team and without your efforts we wouldn’t be where we are today.

Germany|Denmark Markus Stefanko, Chief Technical Officer:

Out of many up and down's this year I can surely remember more up's than downs. 2006 was a groundbreaking year for MYM - we have established ourselves as the best Warcraft 3 team worldwide, finally got into the top ranks with our Counter Strike team, and experimented a lot with our StarCraft division in Korea and China. And even if it didn't look that good sometimes, MYM managed to always make a great comeback and catapult ourselves on top of the game again, even against the odds.

Behind us is the most successful year so far for MYM, and this train is surely not going to stop at any station near soon, so make sure to jump on it.

2007 – The year ahead

The year 2007 will bring a lot of new things for MYM, the MYM community and for Regroup Esports A/S. We will continue our quest to position us as the No. 1 Esports Community in the world, the No. 1 Esports team in the world and the No. 1 Esports Media Company in the world, very modest don’t you think? But without goals, ambitions and a bit of insanity you aren’t going to achieve what you have in mind, which is why we will still be “Esports out of the ordinary” in 2007. And if you think we have had an aggressive strategy in 2006, then 2007 will surely go into history.

We will soon announce a new and improved next level community platform for MYM and its communities and we are working dedicated towards making the community pages easier to use and navigate on. We are aware of that the sites are pretty colorful, packed with content and they seem a bit to hard to find their way through, but it will change very soon, so we can have even more content and at the same time make it easier to find and use exactly what you are looking for.

When it comes to the MYM teams there will be made changes, both player, team and game-wise, some will come and some will go, which, who and when will be announced when the time comes, but there are games out there we aren't paying the attention to that they deserve and there are also games that we might want to have less, if any focus on at all.

Currently we are 4-5 fulltime employees in MYM / Regroup Esports A/S and we are planning on employing additional manpower to position ourselves during 2007. Also new representative and official offices will be set up around the globe to help us be better locally represented and help us achieve our goals.

When it comes to partners and sponsors we have a lot of new announcements for 2007, some already for Week 1 in 2007. Some have thought it was a bit quiet with these sort of announcements in the end of 2006, but when you are working with big international companies and cooperation’s it is better to let things take their time and announce them when fully ready.

Closing

It is now around 6 years ago the MYM ideology was founded and brought into the world of professional gaming and it has cost a lot of work and time go get where we are now, but it was worth it and that thanks to all of you. Without the huge backup from all our fans and community users from around the world, who believe, adore and push us to perform the best, we wouldn’t be what we are today. Some might say we say that every year, but the truth can never be spoken out loud to many times and that is what we think and how we feel.

The MYM Staff would like to wish all of you and your families A HAPPY NEW YEAR

Yours Sincerely
f. MYM & Regroup Esports A/S
