Michel de Nostredame (aka Nostradamus) , "was a French apothecary and reputed seer who published collections of prophecies that have since become famous world-wide". He was something more than a cheap fortune-teller ...but despite his great talent he failed to predict StarCraft 2. It is not like that StarCraft is going to bring havoc and destruction to the world, but it is almost sure the game will put a swift end to some of the major names in the business.
From StarCraft2.com
| Featuring a unique single-player campaign that picks up where StarCraft: Brood War left off, StarCraft II will present a cast of new heroes and familiar faces in an edgy sci-fi story filled with adventure and intrigue. In addition, Blizzard will again offer unparalleled online play through Battle.net, the company's world-renowned gaming service, with several enhancements and new features to make StarCraft II the ultimate competitive real-time strategy game.WeWe |
We have witnessed StarCraft:Broodwar rule the E-sport scene for almost a decade. But a new era is upon us ...the game that have brought so many fans countless of hours of joy and thrill is soon to experience a metamorphosis. Enhanced 3D graphics, fancy new engine and a lot more. Fans offered the chance to play the alpha often turn back to StarCraft 2 with "StarCraft 1.5". But the truth is that eventhough Multi-Player is what turns a couple of CDs into a bestseller, StarCraft wouldn't have touched the hearts of all those hardcore fans if it wasn't the ingame story. And what would've been StarCraft without Sarah Kerrigan or Jim Raynor ? The fact is that it was those very characters who managed to ensnare the public and have become part of the SC universe.
But is it now when Blizzard, who have aways done perfect job, are actually forgetting of their legacy... Fans will not accept some random new guy who has inherited the name of the charming bald guy (who seems to have solved his hair problem in SC2) who doesn't sound even close to the original Raynor. The truth is that the StarCraft community, has the power to choose what they are going to listen for the next 10 years.
Blizzplanet have started a crusade in the name of that what is sacred to the SC fans:
| Game Developers share our passion for games, and have the freedom to create mind-boggling storylines, and to take decisions concerning gameplay and unit balance. However, ultimately fans have supported Blizzard Entertainment with feedback via closed betas and open betas to help balance gameplay. The game is as much developed by Blizzard as it is developed by the volunteer fans who share suggestions and feedback. Fans decide with the power of their money, and interest in the game if a company reaches the top of sales, or if it sinks. A very important factor in Starcraft and its expansion Brood War was the storyline of the game, its characters, and the voice actors. A voice actor needs to be talented and convincing. Sarah Kerrigan, and Jim Raynor became iconic characters to fans of Starcraft and Brood War. We have grown emotionally attached to both characters and their voice actors for nearly ten years, either playing the single player or UMS Maps in Multiplayer, clicking the hero units and listening to their voices. They have been with us in User-Map Settings, Custom Map Campaigns and Mods. But what would happen if Starcraft II introduced new voice actors for Kerrigan, and Jim Raynor? What would happen if one day after a decade Homer Simpson and Bart Simpson's voices were someone else's? Would it feel the same? Would it be the same to watch the next and last two chapters of Harry Potter without Emma Watson (Hermione), Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) and Rupert Grint (Ron)? Would it have felt the same to have Elijah Wood on Chapter one and two of the Lord of the Rings, and suddenly get smacked with a different actor on the third film? |
You can sign an online petition to bring back the original voice-overs for Jim Raynor and Sarah Kerrigan.

firstly - regardless of what I say next nicely written and it is really healthy that varied subjects are fed into the mym sc machine..
"StarCraft wouldn't have touched the hearts of all those hardcore fans if it wasn't the ingame story." For many it is like that.. but though I don't want to be labeled a heretic - I personally never gave a flying phuck about the story line etc.. Even when I first played the first campaign I would esc all the intro screens and all the story telling parts.. for me it has always been a pure rts ~ but yeah I would prefer if they kept the same voices..

I care more about the storyline than the voices. And to tell you the truth ... i don't remember them :P So whatever. Btw Raynor looks quite sexy and i don't think any change of his appearance is necessary :P

The petition is only about Sarah and Raynor's voice-overs, but I agree some of the other unit voices suck. Take the Immortal or the Warp Rey for example ...their voices can make me sleep in 2 mins max

that is true, round and fat takes up your whole screen :D but hey guess people, cough spoiled rich brats cough, need uber graphics.
same goes for voices, i got used to the raynor's/kerrigan's/duke edmond/etc. voices, but it seems that the number of people that care about such voices and the number of new little rich vampyres thirsty to exploit uber pcs their daddies bought them are far from same. nobody listens to you :) money makes the world go round round round, lalala :D if the gaming industry has crippled every possible game due to the demands of sponsors and even pc industry that obviusly simply loves games that demand high configuration so that people can waste more money what makes you so surprised that sc2 is yet another cripple? :)) i simply cant remove the smile from my face since i am and will be supporter of games from time when gameplay meant something (example homm series, game is unique and only thing they ever did to it was changing graphics) If force won't work, use greater force.

#24, we freaking get that you're a gosu hardcore sc:bw fan and that you hate sc2 by now. Frankly, just shut up about it.
And what's this nonsensical rambling about rich kids? It's not everyone else's fault if you have a bad pc.

not really, it's not about being fan of sc, it's about OBVIUS path to domination of graphics over gameplay in pc games where sponsors and spoiled people with unused power of their pcs dictate how the games should be made, some people want classics like this case of old voices, some people want intensive gameplay over fancy graphics...and if you want to know what im a true fan of then it's Hicham El Guerrouj and Haile Gebrselassie, these two names are worth the respect more than the whole e-sports thing together, hence i will always admire them.
all i see for the past few years is games turning into competition which one will look nicer and more attractive to the eyes of hungry customers, natural course? ok, i can live it with it but that sure ain't gonna stop me from repeating over and over again that old games such as chess, bw, tetris, name what you want, simply don't depend on graphics - can you say the same for newest fps shooters? can you say the same for wc3 which will be replaced by a nicer 3D rts, it's as simple as it is with cars - fast cars get replaced with faster cars, pretty games get replaced by prettier ones, only thing that remains are the games that never conquered the world thanks to their looks. on a side note, i don't hate sc2 any more than i hated avp2, simply because avp1 was 10times better and had the element of fear its sequel never had - homm4 looked hillarious compared to homm3 but i still played it, same goes for avp2, same will go for sc2, as it happened with all games in time you get bored with them, some people play wc3 for years, it's a testimony to its quality, some play sc for a decade, problem is sc2 is drawing attention mostly of these "buy me the fastest car" type people, once a nicer 3D rts comes sc2 will be replaced like an old dinosaur. If force won't work, use greater force.

lol not this again pls
i agree with most of what u say but how can u say that in wc3 graphics go over gameplay lol and how can u say it of sc2...im 100% sure they arent making the usual stupid rts good of graphics and crappy in depth, how can u think such a thing

hmm, i have seen dozens of videos of sc2, i have sadly felt the narrownes of wc3 which limits creativity of people to perhaps 1% of what bw has, 2v2 comes down to learning combos and all games come down to imba micro. had i once felt the possibility of doing a fake build in st
on a side note, wc3 is probably the last thing in rts that still kept good old gameplay, everything afterwards just keeps on tumbling deeper and deeper(red alert2, c&c3, etc.). sc2 looks like a movie, explosions and lasers all over the place, overview not comparable to the one 2D offers, it's a handicap, perhaps 3D gamers might not see it as they are used to sloppy units reaction time (example dark templar becoming demon hunter, many have complained about it). when you look at the people that cant wait for sc2 sadly most of them said "wow, looks just like a movie", the 1% of customers aka hardcore gamers dont get a vote, you think blizzard can, for example, dodge the rock-paper-scissor trap in which wc3 has fallen, already they are making strict rules this unit countering that unit, also they have totally messed up the air-ground balance of units, they have to fix that Alot. they keep giving diplomatic answers and results show something different, in the end they will release sc2, get bunch of critics and make a sequel that might actually be good (something like starcraft and brood war thing whereas sc vanilla has problems with balance between races). when will wc3 be good as sc? when humans dominate all races, then undead dominate all races, then orcs and so on in a circle, as long as the game depends more on the game itself rather than the gamers it will not be what bw is. nightelves are pure imba with bears+dryads, as it seems blizzard is fixing the dryads problem but nevermind. what im saying is that wc3 forces certain limit to the creativity of the pla with that said i feel sc2 is making progress in that aspect, even though they are still the same old blind sheep thinking that bw is so creative because of the game itself, they are making units flexible enough to offer alot of variations to the pla that is something almost everyone keeps missing, the key why sc is so bloody good, what keeps wc3 alive? adding new items, new heroes...follow the pattern and you will notice what im saying is true, gamers dont invent stuff, they use stuff being added to the game, i mean yes they do invent but thats not comparable to the ammount of creativity sc pla -you might not see it so clearly in case of wc3-sc, so take a look at wow - how do they keep their pla If force won't work, use greater force.

#24 u are one of those retarded that thinks that video game industry was perfect just with the pong release???
Get serious, world changes, business change...u obviously dont know anything about business u think brood war could have been made without some other games beeing left behind. Take some time to think and ask yourself.....would u like to be playing warcraft orcs & humans till now.....stop dreaming, blizzard needs to move on, all industries need to move on, or are u gonna give them profits while you keep flaming sc2? Wake up dude, srry to burst your bubble but all companies need profits, blizzard isnt the exception. On topic.....ofc u might feel nostalgic about the old voices, but get serious, after a month playing u wont even tell the diference. Thing is that u keep saying sc2 might not be4 as good just cuz its changing, voices wont amke a huge difference after a month or two playing, believe me. Last edited by Kurdran at 31.08.2007, 19:25
