GC - SC2 backstage

art, didier, director, samwise

Gamers Convention is over, but as aways the news don't seem to cease. Most importantly StarCraft 2 news don't cease to appear. Blizzcon, Gen Con ...and now Gamers Convention but the story is far from being told. One day people will look back and say "Hey it was May 19th when the history of modern gaming began" And everybody is eager to take a glimpse at the pages of future while they are still fresh and being written.

Back in the present we have Samwise Didier (Senior Art Director for Blizzard Entertainment) who is working on StarCraft 2. His job is to ...well... let's say he pretty much he is responsible for the way units and buildings look. But it's better to hear from him himself what he has to say about his job. He was recently interviewed at GC. In the interview he speaks of the difficulties designing a certain unit and the long process it has to endure before it is accepted and approved. The story begins from a simple drawing to evolve into a 3D image then wander the virtual landscape and so on. Samwise's job doesn't stop or end here. He was one of "those" guys to destine the future of all the original units and the appearance of new.

Forth race ? Xel Naga ? Naah Why have someone crash you party when you can hang out with your old buddies - Protoss, Terran and Zerg. Blizzard are focusing on their original idea rather than try something innovative or completely new (nothing new here), but what does Samwise have to add ? Check for yourselves at Gamona.de.

More interesting information from GC. Amazing, but not surprisingly StarCraft 2 was nominated for the best Strategy Game ....and won ! (not that surprising). It's StarCraft we are talking about after, so go check the full article here.
