Russian girl gamers take on the boys

"Russia Today", a Russian broadcasting station recently released an article about one of the most successful female gaming teams in the world with the title "Russian girl gamers take on the boys". We're talk about 
Megapolis, Russia's best Counter-Strike female team.
The article is about the ESWC 2007 event that took place just a few weeks ago and about the fact that female teams are getting closer to the male's level of play by facing teams of the opposite sex in order to improve even more. "For now, unfortunately, the competition among female teams in Russia isn’t really strong and it's often too easy to fight against ones of our kind. Playing against the boys is always hard and hard, of course, means interesting. Victories against the boys give us more satisfaction" said Olga "Pachella" Pak, team-captain of Megapolis.
By getting opinions of people involved with Megapolis and others in the community, it is a good article about female gaming which is definately worth reading.

I also caught up with Megapolis' team-manager and coach Stepan "party" Kapusta in order to get his opinion and point of view regarding the progress of female gaming in Russia and the world. You can find the statement below:
| Female gaming in Russia is not as good as we want :). Megapolis are beyond comparison at the moment. We won the last 3 ESWC qualifiers without any problems. At the last qualifier we had only 8 teams and only 2 were good enough. I hope next year it will be changed and the qualifier will be really good and interesting. But in the rest of the world the situation is not the same. There are too many good female teams who have the necessary conditions for them to play CS very well and they have to train hard because of the tougher competition. Sponsors, good managment to help them means the girls have nothing to do except to play CS :) Female CS is becoming like male CS: the same tournaments, good prizes, sponsors and plenty of teams etc. :) |
