SC2: Interview - Jim Raynor voice-over

clotworthy, jim, raynor, robert

Blizzplanet recently caught Robert Clotworthy (voice actor of Jim Raynor) and made a very interesting interview with him. After their Public Q&A with Christie Golden (see here) now they bring us a thrilling conversation with the man behind character.

For the few of you who don't remember Jim Raynor here is his profile: James Raynor, better known simply as Jim to his friends, is a fictional character in the StarCraft universe. He is a Terran, originally from the colony of Mar Sara where he was ranked as a marshall. By Destroying an Infested Command Center he got himself arrested for destroying Confederate property. Latter freed by the Sons of Korhal he forms as a strong individual and one of the main characters in the Broodwar. One of the few dared to oppose the Zerg and the only Terran to be accepted by the noble Protoss.

After nearly a decade Robert talks about his character and the feelings he had voicing Raynor. He says he is a fan of the game himself and would like to voice Jimmie again in StarCraf 2 (but for the moment he wasn't offered to do so). For the years that have past Robert has gained more life experience and as he supposes his character did too. The actor also talks about his similarities/differences with Jim and discusses other interesting facts about the game. Here is what Robert says going back to his memories:

"It was 1998 when I recorded Jim Raynor, close to ten years ago so the memory may be a bit fuzzy. I know it was fun, it was the first video game character that I had the opportunity to play. Everyone was great, Chris Metzen was there and together we just tried a few different voices till we settled on the raspy one. Chris showed me some artwork that I believe he drew of Raynor. I remember one especially where Raynor was on some futuristic motorcycle and he had all these really cool weapons and I thought Raynor looked like the kind of guy you wouldn't mess with. I made the choice that since Raynor was such a bad ass, he didn't need to get really loud... it was up to the other characters to shut up and listen... and if they didn't, well that was their mistake."

Be sure to check the full interview at Blizzplanet.
