Matt Ringel became one of the most influential people in electronic sports approximately one year ago when he announced the World Series of Video Games. With the recent announcements concerning the 2007 season, GGL decided to have a chat with him.
When Ringel announced the games for the 2007 season - Quake 4, World of Warcraft, Guitar Hero II and Fight Night Round 3 - the community were somewhat stunned to see that the two most popular games, Counter-Strike and Warcraft III were both left out from the majority of WSVG Majors.
The GGL approached Ringel about his selection of games:
We're moving in a different direction this year. We tried a shooter-heavy lineup last year and while everyone thought we had a great season, we felt like we could do more and eSports can BE more. Bigger events, better events, etc. As such, we're still discovering the best formula. We don't take the same direction as a CGS or a MLG, and that's great because it gives gamers of all types a place to play. I personally look forward to meeting all the new players now that we've opened up gaming to entirely new genres. In the end, the more gamers who have opportunities to compete at the games they love, the better.
The full interview questions his choice to use a 3v3 format in World of Warcraft, instead of the more popular 5v5 format that the Blizzard Arena Ladder is using. It asks questions about EA's involvement in the decision to use Fight Night Round 3 and of course they ask why they decided to use Quake 4 for a second season. The full interview is available here.

I dont understand how dumb a person can be. Guitar Hero 2 is not in no way can be considered a game for a professional tournament.
WOW Fight Night Guitar Hero. Retarded WSVG in my opinion. Where is the true competitive professional games in wsvg now. Besides quake 4. | |
