MYM.Testie wins WCG Canada *pics*

From now on and all the time until October 3rd 2007 the most mentioned 3 letter combination will will be W.C.G. The meaning behind the letters is simple - World Cyber Games. The world's supreme gamers gather for the challenge of the year so that the new King can be crowned. Except the huge cash prize the winner also receives the world champ title. Being the most prestigious gaming event of the year the top spot is highly rated and of a great value for the gaming community. The World Cyber Games is not an ordinary meeting of computer geeks encouraging snot-nosed kids to battle over money and fame. The organizers welcome good manner and fair-play. A celebration of human unity through the magical world of cyberspace.

wcgWCG Theme Song - Beyond the game:

"You and I we have met before
Through the magic of the moment in cyberspace
Driven by a passion to win
Playing heart to heart and face to face"

As the final moment approaches it is time for WCG Canada to announce their representative. A fearsome battle is going to be engaged for the only spot Canada has to offer. The country has given birth to some tough and skilled gamers. It is honor for us to have one of them fighting for us here at Denmark MeetYourMakers. Since China MYM.F91 and Ukraine MYM.White-Ra qualified already for the WCG Finals here is one more: Nick Perentesis aka Canada MYM.Testie is the King of random and hopefully he will turn to be the King of WCG Canada. He has won numerous tournaments but he still misses one title in his record - the WCG world title. To make this dream come true he has to face first players like Canada Iefnaij, Canada Bandit[LighT] and Canada prodigy[x].

The whole event will take place in Toronto, August 24-26, 2007. Betimes we catched Testie for an interview:

Testie, tell us how do you feel about the coming WCG Canada qualifications. Did you prepare for it?

- No, I didn't prepare until a few days ago. I don't consider a week of practice before a tournament to be practice. More like a warm-up. Because you're still not quite 100%. I will do my best over the next coming days to try to get into the best shape possible to win this event though. I have less than a week left to do it.

Do you have any information about the contestants this year. Last year you were able to overcome all your opponents, but what about this year?

- This year nothing has changed, I am still the clear favorite and the competition is about the same. There are some decent players who could take me out if I do not play 100% like JianFei or Fayth (Fayth is completely unpracticed though). But if I do not go to Seattle, the Canadian that takes my place won't go far or do very well. They have large holes in their game that should not exist.

Do you fear anyone in particular? Did you watch replays?

- Nah, I haven't watched any replays. I don't have fear in any events, but my biggest threat I assume is JianFei. He's a fine player for someone so young and is quite active. All the other players are "good" but not great. But if I'm not careful, I could lose to more players than just him though. However, if I do go to Seattle, I will be very eager to finally have no distractions and try to show my absolute best. I am also really looking forward to seeing a lot of familiar faces and a few new ones. So, if sadness were part of my emotional repertoire, I'd be sad that I missed out on WCG Seattle.

Are you satisfied with your latest perfomances? What do you think, at which level is your game at the moment?

testie- My game is always a bit above the other foreigners even unpracticed. I found that out (again) when I came back from my dota-ing and mopped the floor with my /f list. But there's a few others like that as well. They are what I have dubbed as "the foreign hopes." (Mondragon, Testie, Draco, Sen + a couple Chinese players). I really only look at them as being able to do anything significant in WCG because they are the only ones who are good enough, and dangerous enough to do it. There's a couple others who are retired I could add to the list. But these are the only ones active that I know of that will still participate in this WCG that are able to take legitimate games off Koreans and not just hope to fluke a win. Thus, having a far greater chance. So, uhh back to the question and not my ranting. Not quite satisfied with my latest Blizzcon performance, but it'll do. I'd say i'm at 50-80%. It changes. I've grown into a pattern as an old player that i've started getting lazy in games rather than doing I know what is best, simply to do what is easiest. Of course I'm not happy with this and that worries me slightly, so I am working to improve that fast for this event. I don't feel like I am playing the other players, I never do when I'm playing my best. I'm playing myself and racing against the clock.

Some players may have problems with travel expenses. Did you heard more about this? Would that be a problem for you if you win?

- In Canada, the country is huge. Travel expenses are of course a problem. Canadians have no financial help to the national event. But once someone in Canada wins, everything is paid for. So there shouldn't be a problem with that. Plus, MYM helps out and really takes great care of it's players. So... I definitely won't have any problems.

How do you feel that Poland, Ukraine and especially Canada have only one spot, whereas Bulgaria, Italy or Iran and Germany, Korea or Russia have two or more spots in WCG?

- The spots are usually about organizers ability to find local sponsors, or the interest they can find. While it is a shame higher skilled countries do not have as many spots, it is really no one's fault except the individual organizers of each country. And even then, it's a stretch to blame them because sometimes, you simply can't find anyone interested in helping to sponsor the event. That's part of the business aspect, and when looking for sponsors or help, that's them weighing potential cost over potential gain. If the gain does not exceed the cost, then you can kiss financial help good bye.

Stay tuned for updates, pictures, results and more!

Update 1:
Since WCG Canada has ended, we now have the results. We can see that our player managed to go through this one in the best way: flawless victory. Let's take a look at Testie's evolution in the WCG Canada:

WCG Canada 2007
Quarterfinals
Canada MYM.Testie 2 - 0
Canada Schism[LighT]
Winners bracket finals
Canada MYM.Testie 2 - 0
Canada Bandit[LighT]
Grand Final
Canada MYM.Testie3 - 0
Canada Bandit[LighT]

Congratulations to our own Canada MYM.Testie for backing-up his words. He proved once more that he is the best Canadian player, and he will now represent his country at the Seattle Wrold Cyber Games.

Update 2:
Now we can present you also a gallery with some pictures from the WCG Canada that show Testie playing in the finals. Further there are some CS pics from WSVG (WCG took place there too). A very big thank you goes to Canada Apm66 who gave us the pictures!

yeh, i agree on that one.
though i wouldn't take it as a bad thing, it's more like words of a confident player who knows what he can do and doesn't fear of expressing it.

i guess after his defeat against reach and nalra some fire lit up inside of him so he's eager to fight and show he can do much more than just "almost" winning progamers.

this year's wcg kinda sux if you look at the list of countries that didn't get a spot :(

also mappool shows they've got zero knowledge about starcraft.

wcg usa has 2spots and day has proven to be quite good in offline tours so my wild guess is that he's gonna be top 5 100% and hopefully top2 as well.

-on a side note, G5 demolished idra in some offline tour not long ago so it seems idra isn't so comfortable at offlines even though judging by his skill level he is no1 usa currently. -in the end who knows, maybe artosis goes for finals again if top3 can't go.

If force won't work, use greater force.
