mTw loses AMD as head sponsor

amd, eric, mtw, who

mTw loses its main sponsor and most important supporter AMD. Whether WhO will remain in the team or not is still undetermined.

mTw Warcraft team which had gone through massive roster changes lately, loses its main sponsor AMD.

Not long ago, mTw management decided to part ways with all the Korean players present in the squad except the ESWC champion Korea, South Du Seop 'WhO' Chang. They played as a whole team for the last time during NGL finals and managed to win the tournament, getting past their prominent rivals MYM Dreamteam and SK Gaming.

Will WhO remain in mTw?

After releasing the Korean players, Germany Eric 'Eric' Marten was added to the roster, unearthing the organization's plans to focus more on German market, especially on ESL Pro Series.

With losing their head sponsor, it is still clouded whether mTw will keep WhO in the team or not.

Without there sponcer they wont be able to afford to keep him. Unless they find another strong sponcer I see mtw closing up its wc doors when Eric fails to win consistantly. Its a real shame too been watching mtw participate in wc3l for a long time. :(

due to the finacial crisis all the sponsors look where to cut spendings and as it looks like sponsoring esports seems to quite far up the cutting list

I am sure he will stay. I think the only influence AMD's absence has on the WC3-team is that all Koreans except for WhO left. I am sure they knew about the whole thing some weeks/months ago.

it's perfectly logical. ever since AMD's merger with ATi, they've faced a lot of debt problems. moreso with the launch of the Phenom(Barcelona) which had the infamous TLB errata which caused systems to fail at times.

Even though the HD 4000 series has been selling well, Phenom II hasn't and AMD is still working on fusion. All of this, under the pressure of other competition. A while back, AMD laid off 600 people as well because of financial difficulties.

Unfortunate that the financial situation most companies are faced with has stunted the growth of eSports as it was, some would say, consolidating itself a bit.

It will bounce back, though. There will always be interest, it is just a matter of finding out a reliable profit for it.

AMD and SK is different. MTW and AMD sponsor relationship was really BIG, that's why the clan tag was actually MTW.AMD.NAMEOFTHEPlayer. In SK, AMD is just a normal sponsor like Addidas or Steelseries, not a big deal in "South Korean".
