Three days at the world's largest computer festival, Dreamhack Winter 2008, has ended with some wickedly amazing playoff matches. Certainly, neither the Grand Final nor the Bronze Final were disappointing.
fnatic vs.
MYM kicked off first at 21:00 CET. The Swedes were to hang on to a 9-6 half lead on inferno, ultimately winning map 1 by a mere two rounds. MeetYourMakers had no trouble on nuke, however; they've played well on that map all event, losing only to Dreamhack champion SK-Gaming. 16-2 was the final score as a decider was forced yet again and when the map was announced, it must have been an incredible confidence boost for the Polish side. After beating Made in Brazil, possibly the world's best de_train team, on the South Americans' paradise, TaZ and company knew that they had the ability to play well against fnatic. MYM started out on T side and put up 8 rounds at the half but didn't manage a strong CT and the Bronze Final's deciding map was pushed to overtime after Patrik "f0rest" Lindberg picked up an impossible 1v3 round. Sadly for the Swedes, that was as far as they got as MYM shut them out with scores of 1-2 and 1-2 in OT to claim the bronze.
Meanwhile,
SK Gaming saw a rematch of the World Cyber Games 2008 Grand Final against
mTw.AMD, known as "Team of the Year." Though zonic slapped his opponents around on dust2, SK showed no mercy on mTw's strongest map, inferno, and fought hard for a third map. The Swedes then took a fast pistol round on nuke and eventually a 11-4 lead. However, the Danes sitting across from SK aren't at the top of their game for no reason. A near mirror of the first half (including a pistol round win for mTw) pushed the game to Overtime, as again the two teams traded rounds. Finally, Sweden jumped ahead of Denmark and refused to be beaten twice as 2-1 and 2-1 were placed on the scoreboard for the win. Walle, Robban, zet, allen, and Tentpole all agreed that they couldn't let mTw take gold medals away from them twice. Nevertheless, the Danish team still capped off a very successful year, with wins at Kode5, ESWC Masters, World eSports Masters, and World Cyber Games.
Final Standings:

SK Gaming - 9,800 € + 15,500€ worth of hardware

mTw.AMD - 5,800 € + 3,500€ worth of hardware

MYM - 2,450 € + 2,450€ worth of hardware
