Video: Grubby meets Kasparov

amsterdam, beyond the game, grubby, kasparov

WarCraft 3 trio, China Human Xiaofeng 'Sky' Li, Netherlands Orc Manuel  'Grubby' Schenkhuizen and Sweden Undead Fredrik 'MaDFroG' Johansson, are featured in a long-awaited documentary movie called 'Beyond the game'.

This movie had its world premiere at the world's biggest documentary event called International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam on Friday. The pre-ticket sales is still ongoing and you can purchase them from the links below:

Award winning director Netherlands Jos de Putter, who travelled to eSports events around the globe for this movie, shared previous blog thoughts on the players and the WarCraft 3 scene and how he started to create this movie as a person who didn't know anything about eSports before. He described MYM]Grubby as the "Kasparov of a new generation" (read more about this here).

Now, Grubby had the chance to meet chess ace Garry Kasparov in Amsterdam during the movie premiere of Beyond the game. Netherlands myMYM|Cassandra was there and filmed parts of the talk between the two masterminds:

A film review and pictures by Cassandra will be posted later!

I have the utmost respect for Kasparov. His reach goes well beyond his own game, and he really tries to utilize his intellect to its fullest.

Yep, but he was just unlucky to be the one at the seat at the time when technology catched up.
Though, Kramnik has also lost vs a chess computer, as have many others following Kasparov's defeat.

Also, I'd like to stress the fact that Kasparov lost vs a supercomputer of which he had no knowledge of it's playstyle while the computer had thousands of Kasparov's games in its database.

I remember how 2 years ago Kramnik played vs the newest chess engine Fritz 10 and he only made 3 ties and 2 losses vs the computer. The commentators at these matches explained the listeners, that the computer had 10 million pro chess matches stored in his data base and so the computer could predict nearly every movement Kramnik did. Just sad that comps >>> hu...

True enough, but Kramnik had the chance to atleast playtest Deep Fritz 10 for awhile before the match started (quite a few weeks)

Deep Fritz 10 was also worse than Deep Blue in hardware. Deep Blue could calculate 200 million positions per second, while Fritz 10 could 'only' calculate 8 million per second. Softwarewise Fritz is obviously further ahead though, with more matches in its database and more options.

Funfact: Kasparov drew against Fritz 2-2 a year after the Kramnik - Fritz game.

In one of those 2 loses, right after the loses, Kasparov who comented those games, he made out that in one game Kramnik had the win just didnt see it and in other he had draw with a quality loss but he had enaugh material to form so called fourtress formation
that is when u have ur king in middle of table sorounded by ur only remainin figures and u stand to counter ur opp advantige in material...

Actually, according to the FIDE rating it's Topalov; http://ratings.fide.com/top.phtml?list=men

2803 is Anand his highest rating ever (only 4 players ever reached above 2800).
Highest rating ever achieved is 2851 by Kasparov, aswell as longest continuous stay on the #1 spot ever.

That's called Nonverbal communication. Which is completely normal in a conversation. Not using it, is what is funny ;) Though.. Kasparov may seem a bit excessive relative to your average person, but then again he's not average.

P.S. About 60% of communication is nonverbal. (33% is tone and only 7% is spoken words)

-good communication gives up to 80% better results in anything what u do(real life and work)
-good organization gives the rest 20%
-almost 99% of problems comes out of bad communication or bad translation of communication btween those who communicate exp(diplomacy and bilateral talks, real life ect ect.)
-now u can sense Kasparov IQ from his body language...

Kasparov talked about wc3 in book of his, which told about managing resources in real life. The quote was sth like "now ill give you an example from the game my son plays... something about wc3" i dont remember the name of the book or the exact quote, my friend whos chessplayer told me.

Ok Kasparov is the best chess player there was....
When he was young he beat Karpov in one of the most thriling duels, than he beat Anand couple of times and he got the highest rating man ever had, 2851(2838) and he was considered to be the only man who could brake the 3000 limit mark but he quit playing, in 2002 i think he lost his title to Kramnik cos of lack of concentration cos after that he won Linares Vaykanzee and Dortmund tournaments 2 or 3 years in a row beating Kramnik in their famous Berlin wall opening and Anand like he always did,(Kasparov eats Anand for breakfast) the only other chess player who had considerable results with Kasparov was Kramnik but he wasn't better than him...Than Kasparov said it is time to move on to real chess game - politics...
He tries to beat Putin reputation in Russia but with his CIA backup i think russians will never give their votes to him over Putins and he must be very carefull in future...
Never the less Kasparov won one duel with Deep Blue and lost another one with the upgraded version in a very interesting match in witch he won a game or two i think but lost more, other than Kramnik who didnt even won one versus Deep Fritz and nowdays the best player there is, is among bulgarias Topalov, Kramnik and Anand, it is interesting cos Topalov lost against Kramnik and Anand won Kramnik but i think that next match will be between Topalov and Anand and that Topa will win easy...
And Kasparov was wining them all back in 2003/2004 u can check that...
To bad he quit, in future the chess games will be held between Computers and thrue man genius such Kasparov was truly the best chess player planet Earth ever had...

No way, just no way...
As much Fischer was young and popular in his time we all know he lost against Spasky at that time and even to Petrosian althow in overall he was dominating them but he fleed to Karpov match rhere for he could not be the best...

You clearly know nothing about chess.

Fischer dominated Spassky in their world championship match and again in 1992. During the qualifiers for the 1972 match Fischer faced Petrosian and beat him 6½-2½, which is embarrassing.

For you to say "he lost against Spasky at that time and even to Petrosian" shows complete and utter ignorance.

Spasky lost cos he agreed to play behind cameras dumbster cos fischer was very cocky player but thrue genious, i was saying he did lose some games against petrosian and spasky on many tournaments...But he fleed to Karpov duel hello hello...

'Thrue genious'? Let me correct myself, you know nothing of chess or English.

You've shown that you are a patzer with no knowledge of chess but at least keep quiet on political matters that you know nothing about.

"He tries to beat Putin reputation in Russia but with his CIA backup "

What a joke. You make yourself look ridiculous with comments like these.

Ok dude, that is ur opinion, thru my english gramar is bad...
As for the chess i know 1000 times more than ull ever know...
As for the politic u can check my opinion by seeing what object was flown on his party meeting with the media, if u know than u can understand the russian people opinion about him or putin and who back up who, btw his campaign is sponsored with american money u prick go and learn some....

100% Perfection is unachievable, but 99.9% is!

Maybe it's just your horrible English but your views on politics and chess are just incoherent nonsense. You've made at least 20 comments regarding chess here that are dead wrong. I'll bet your FIDE rating is like 1000.

"he lost against Spasky at that time and even to Petrosian althow"

That stands as the most stupid thing I've ever heard in regards to chess. As I told you, Fischer is known for dominating Spassky and Petrosian. And yet you hold them up as if they bested Fischer. He defeated Petrosian 6½-2½ you idiot!

I'm pretty sure the Kasparov book you have in mind is How Life Imitates Chess. Now that you mention it, I remember reading about it too.
