Just three months ago the 'The Championship Gaming Series', shortly known as CGS, has announced that their original CEO Andy Reif, who was mainly in charge for the first two CGS seasons, and the company will part ways in the future. Shortly after that move Dale Hopkins became their new CEO, who comes basically from the TV industry, winning a number of awards for her work in the past.

Now things came to a shocking change, the CGS is closed and shut down with  immediate effect, after BSkyB, STAR and DIRECTV ended their joint venture.

In the press release it says that the new concept which CGS followed "was too far in the future for us to sustain operations in the interim" and to be profitable.

Furtherone the officals report that their "goal was to be ahead of the curve in the e-sports space, and conceived of CGS as a true sports league. We invested wholeheartedly in the venture and presented viewers with a top-notch production, but the economics just didn’t add up for us at this time.

Our only regret is that we will lose a team of creative and talented individuals who invested their hearts and souls into Championship Gaming Series. We recognize their achievements and thank them for their hard work and passion."

The first matches of CGS were shown in CGS Season 1 in July 2007 on DirecTV and featured $500,000 top prize money and became famous for the five Counter-Strike Source players which were featured there. Franchises from different regions around the world were featured in the CGS as well.
