It hasn't exactly been the best couple of weeks for the MYM Dreamteam. First
Grubby lost against Fly100% in the NWL Grand Final, and then in two WC3L playdays, MYM went from 1st to 4th in the rankings, taking two straight defeats.
The team has seemingly lost the chance to qualify directly for the WC3L Finals, unless they can 5-0 wNv today, while two of the three teams in front of them will have to lose points.
According to MYM Dreamteam's manager
Jesper Nordahl, the direct qualification is not a set goal for the team right now, as they can't decide their own fate, anyway.
- For now we just have to look forward and try our best to get into a good playoff position, he told myMYM.com exclusively.
- To be honest, I'm not sure top 2 is still possible. I think it is more likely that we will need a 5-0 to have a chance at making #3, and I'm not sure how likely that is against a strong team like wNv.
While the Chinese team has had a lackluster season, scooping up def-losses and penaltypoints in abundance, Nordahl is hesitant to make his team too big a favourite for the match.
- I know they haven't had the best of season, but they have also had to give a lot of def wins, matches that they might have won, so if we face the full force of their strength, a 5-0 seems very unlikely, to say the least.
With a 7-1 score for the first eight rounds of the season, it was a big surprise to see MYM take two straight defeats, especially the 4-0 thrashing against fnatic. For the MYM-manager, the losses are a product of the high league-standard this season, though.
- I think the result versus fnatic was just an expression on how close this season actually is. If we look at the scoreboard we can see that there are about 50% dominating teams and about 50% not so dominating. And the dominating teams have beaten each other, regularly. This was basically what happened against fnatic.
Onlookers might claim that MYM had their fair share of bad luck with the seedings for the games against fnatic and mTw, with Moon playing consecutive mirrors and Lucifer being paired against Orc twice, but Nordahl won't hear anything of that.
- We knew the chances for Orc matches were high for Luci, and as such he prepared for them, but both WhO and FoCuS are very strong players. Losing to them is no shame, maybe they just had a better day than he did.
- As for Moon's matches, we would of course have prefered that he had faced someone else, but I think his losses were marginal and could just as well have been wins. You also have to keep in mind that you can not just put a player anywhere when facing good teams and players. If he gets a bad starting map a win is not guaranteed.
Following the defeat against mTw, Nordahl had swapped Lucifer with SocceR for the solo-matches, and had changed his 2on2-team from Luci/SocceR to Grubby/Moon. Both changes were fruitless as SocceR lost his game 2-1, while Grubby and Moon were just dominated in their match against Focus and Shy.
Asked if the changes had anything to do with the performances against mTw, Nordahl rejected and instead cited racial composition and unpredictability as the main reasons for the lineup against fnatic.
- The 1on1 was a matter of maps. We can switch around whenever we feel we need more NE's or Ud's in the lineup, in the respective matches we simply felt it was more prudent to have one play instead of the other.
- Regarding the 2on2 we figured we would keep our opponents guessing, so we switched around the teams. If you keep using the same team it is easier for your opponents to prepare, but if they dont know which team they will face, it will be harder for them to prepare.
At 16:00 CET today you will be able to see if Nordahl and his players are able to turn their tide. The manager acknowledges that they have to win, but stresses out that the team "will do our best and hope it is enough".

I hope they can regain their strenght and still try to qualify directly altough its not entirely in their own hands right now. | |
