BlizzCon - Video Stream

blizzcon, starcraft, warcraft3

Blizzard has released the tournament brackets for Warcraft 3 and Starcraft that will take place from 10-11 October at Blizzcon in Anaheim, California. For the Warcraft 3 tournaments players had to play qualify through the battle.net ladder to then get invited to an invitational ladder and then finish in the top at the regional finals. Unlike the Warcraft 3 tournament, the BlizzCon StarCraft Invitational is an invite tournament. Blizzard has invited some of the top Starcraft players in the world to participate.

The tournaments will be played in a double elimination and best of 3 format.

(See below for the link to the video stream)

Warcraft 3 players:

  • Korea, South Nightelves Check
  • Korea, South Nightelves ReMinD
  • Sweden Nightelves SaSe
  • Korea, South Orc Lyn
  • Spain Orc Lucifron
  • Canada Orc Kiwikaki
  • United State- Human Sonkie
  • Russian Fede- Undead Happy

Update: United State- Human Nilknarf will not be attending Blizzcon WC3 tournament despite qualifying. Blizzard has decided to replace him with Canada Orc Kiwikaki. Furthermore there are also changes in the Warcraft 3 Bracket. Korea, South Nightelves Check who was suppose to play against Lucifron will instead be playing against Kiwikaki. SaSe who was suppose to play against Nilknarf, who has now been replaced, will be playing against Lyn. Happy vs ReminD match remains and Sonkie instead of playing against Lyn still faces an Orc player, Lucifron.

Well yeah... since Koreans is the only country with the professional leagues whereas WC3 has international tournaments and leagues. I was hoping to see NonY in the tournament :/

Quite predictable :(
Lyn vs. ReMinD at the second round is gonna be nice, though.

Those StarCraft invites are a joke! Only 1 real non Korean player, no Chinese player... what a failure Blizzard, why don't you care about StarCraft outside Korea? Also the race balance is weired... 5 Terras and 1 Protoss...

yeah pretty wierd decisions. I always thought the Blizzcon should combine the korean and the foreign scene. This is like a korean tourney... =/

blizzard has always failed to correctly observe the starcraft scene, both the foreign and the korean ones, and we see this here again. i mean come on, who the hell decides which players are to be invited?

of course, some top class koreans may not have made it and they were replaced, but seriously, XellOs, YellOw, NaDa, JangBi? you've got to be kidding me. and Idra?

they were always picking some of the weirdest players to attend and quite frankly i got used to seeing this :S
i have no idea why they don't inspect the actual starcraft scene before taking such stupid decisions. god im so angry :@

I'll be nicer when you're smarter.

Well on TL.net are also rumours that they wanted to have other Kors but had to change the list later a bit...

Hmm, I think JangBi and NaDa are good choices since JangBi is a strong player and NaDa is an old school player that is still consistent compared to players like XellOs and YellOw. It's obvious that IdrA was invited because he's an American who is giving hope to other foreigners sort of.

I'm actually quite happy that they have a lot of the old school progamers in the StarCraft tournament. It is probably also a lot easier to get these people since the contacts have already been made and they are already familiar with BlizzCon. Plus, it is not easy to get something like this set up considering visa issues, timing among other tournaments esp among the Korean progamers, availabilities esp for people with work and school (BlizzCon is on a Friday, mind you), etc. I'm sure Blizzard did as best they could with the choices they made. I am sad that Nal_Ra didn't make the cut but I will be rooting for Savior this time. Although it would be weird considering all those years I have rooted for Yellow...
