Time to let -apxl go? by Drayich

Mouz Leader Sweden Drayich wrote a whole new proposition about how the gamemode in league matches should look like. The gamemode -apxl has been around for a very long time but he thinks that it has only gotten worse since it was brought in. The bans and picks take almost about a half an hour nowadays and we lose time, patience and spectators due that.

His new wish is to set up the mode -rd for all league matches and also wanted 1 ban from each team to remove that special warder, ganger, supporter or carrier out of the game. The pools could be unbalanced but he says that due to the lack of time, the teams will end up balanced.

this would be an end to the main strategies but at the same time something new, and teams might adjust to the mode as they do with each new league map version. 

"I remember when AP was used as the main mode of DotA. The picks where somewhat the same, even if T_T did do some different things with their globalstrat. Then someone came up with the idea of APXL, the mode where you are allowed to ban enemy heroes, and this was a huge sucess. From that moment its pretty much downwards.

The picking phase of an highlevel APXL game is really interesting for some people, and really tired some for others. I guess we are 'wasting' at least 30 minutes each game just for the picks - this isnt making the game attractive for me as a family man - for the spectators - and for the players."

Let icefrog add new mode into the game that can limit time each game. Winner is team that destroy throne/ancient or get more kill. While they can't destroy throne/ancient and have a draw kills stat just let see who destroy more building and tower. Each building have its point that team will get when destroyed it. When time finished, just look at priority throne/ancient>>kills stat>>points. Game can end when throne/ancient destroy befor time finished as usual.

I belive you fail to listen to the points i have - Dont overfocus on RD as the mode or the solution of the problem - just realise there is a problem.

Anyone whos stating something with "imagine there is 3 good heroes in the pool.." doesnt understand what 1 ban means. If you have firstpick then you get 1 of these, if you have secondpick then you get 2 of these. Then i think having firstpick would be really smart to ban one of these 3 heroes so that the balance of the game is obtained. (Really, how much IQ do you need to understand that?)

On the other hand, i just came out of the mouz-ks game with all the comments about the picks (and yes i do agree that the picks where imbalanced)
Then say_imba_plz commented something like "90% of the games are one sided when it comes to picks anyway". I dont know if hes right, but i do know that most of the games where poeple comments (maybe only fanboy noobs) say that the picks are imbalanced.

So are we really try to maintain a balance, or just trying to maintain the "mode that worked, so why change it"

Rules about hosts; E.g. predecided locations about where the hosts should be located for different matchups.

Rules about picks; E.g 40seconds per pick in APXL or a RD i really dont care, but making the picksequence of the game take less then 20minutes in total.

Rules about seriousness towards the game; SHowing up in time, starting picks in time.

These 3 factors is needed, anyone saying the opposite doesnt want the game to develope into a real e-sport. Because right now its only on the edge. I mean if we can get these things to happen, then we can lower the gametime with up to two hours per game. And im not talking about ingame, Its a strategygame and it shouldnt be superactionpacked as CS or whatever, DotA is a great game as its played, but a horrible before someone pressed the "START GAME"

Hi drayich what you say is half true based on your own will, but you must look at the point from the wiew of others as well.

1||| About this one i saw somewhere a rule: when team 1 has a host all the players should join him and he should start the game to see if there are lags, if the players experience lags they should go and try host from team 2, if they experience problems there they should go on a neutral host.

2||| There is a possibility to solve this one as well, but i think some players/team leaders would be too lazy to do this. Take a paper write down heros which you would like to ban (IMBA heros: omniknight, shaker, rexxar, dazzle, brood, chen etc. or heros you don't like to play againts or its just hard for you to play against them) take a another paper write down all heros + the banned ones cause the banned heros change every game in the pool on the paper there should be heros your team would like to play or write a another paper with 5 combo heros and try to combine them for your selves and after when it comes for picking it should be much easier for you to pick/ban better to say FASTER to pick.

3||| I bet every clan experienced problems with this getting somewhere on time and starting bans/pick on time, my clan had the same problems we were on tournament we were 4 so we played 4v5 like you did vs. SGC or NR can't rememeber good in PDL, we lost. Then we met the same team in looser bracket we were five ready to play the day the match was sheduled but they weren't so we win by def. But i think you can't solve this problem at least i can't even think about a good solution.

Plus you are right i think ICEFROG should develop a mode NOT RD,AR,AP,XL but a new one with the system of a XL mode or just to remake it to ban 4 heros (each team) in game and with a time interval of 15-20 seconds each, then picking 5 heros (each team) with the time interval of 15-20 seconds each. In overal this would take 8 bans x 20 seconds + 10 picks x 20 seconds = thats 160 + 200 = 360 seconds or 6 minutes just to ban/pick. Simple. If you want it like this drayich then you have my full support. But believe me RD is a public/fun mode example the admin crew showdown LOL look at thoose picks =D

i think rd has a high random factor , if the pool has 4 or 5 heroes that are weak ( meaning heroes not picked at all in competitive dota nowadays ) would lead to dota w/o strategy and that kinda sux realy. but if u wanna loose the strats and go for skill only rd is a solution. Otherwise do what they all have written above me , time limt , very tight time limit.

i got some idea here to make dota to be intrested to watch anyone want to listen?
is easy and i think is a better way than dray's one . Now all the rules is say destroy opponent's world tree/frozen throne to count win.
so we change it the game lenght just only got 40mins(example)
if cant destroy world tree/throne so use point to count which team win
this can make the dota to be more action cause both teams also dont want to lose their tower and wont be a farming game cause u just got 40 mins to play

i think the beta (which i havnt seen of course)
will fix this, it has been designed to make turtling essentially impossible
icefrog realises the issue i believe, hopefully he gets it right and such a drastic change as this wil not have to be implemented

I agree about the idea of changing -apxl as competitive game mode.
Unfortunately, I disagree about changing it to -rd.
-APXL is the best mode for the competitive scene currently, if we want a change, we need a new mode.
