* myMYM banned from WCG Asia

mymym, wcg asia

The myMYM.com crew - Singapore markvon and WC3 ESUP, Singapore Wind have been banned from the WCG Asian Championships due to an issue over the release of several DotA replays.

Despite being told by the game officials on how to obtain the replays, Rapture Gaming, the organizing committee behind WCG Asia has eventually come to a decision to disallow the crew from covering the tournament.

In fact, the organization has also failed to inform all on-site media crews that uploading of replays was forbidden. Rapture Gaming would also not accept any accommodation, and issued a ban without hesitation.

Nonetheless, we apologize for all inconvenience caused to all viewers and supporters from home, but we will still try to cover this event.

Presently, myMYM.com is the only media that has been punished with a ban. It should also be noted that GarenaTV was broadcasting all matches during the day.

Replays

Group A - Razer (Japan) vs DLLM (Hong Kong)
Group B - KingSurf (Malaysia) vs ToFu (Korea)
Group A - E-Home (China) vs Impreza (Singapore)

ok so, here is my last comment for the news. I talked to the wcg admins this morning and told me the story. I don't want to get involved too much in this, im just telling the story as what rapture told me.

First of all, they explained that the rule of disallowing posting replays started a few years ago and they are following the rule this year as well. Any party is not allowed to post the replay before WCG officially posted it.

The admins expressed that mym staff are not showing cooperation. When being asked which admin allow them to get the replays, the answer was "cannot remember". After that the admin told mym staff something like "OK, now im telling you that you cannot post out the replays". The answer is kind of "Why? This is a tournament. We have the right to post all the replays in all tournaments." But according to WCG Asia tradition, replay is never allowed to be posted before tournament is over. Instead of admiting and stop posting replays, mym staff was showing a wrong attitude. They said last year i was not banned because i admited and promised i wouldn't do it again, but mym is not listening and following the rule.

In the end, admin of wcg said that mym ppl abused the headadmin while they are leaving.

"Markon:
Ok, i think i may need to clarify the actual events of the story.

1) I did not take any replays at all

2) I had no prior knowledge that my colleague pushed the admin and abused them.

On the way home after being ejected, my colleague did not mention to me any thing about him pushing and abusing the admin, it was until after one of my Garena Singapore staff who is also a Marshall there, called me and told me that one of the reasons why the ban was enforced was because of the shove.

I called up my MYM colleague who said something that he might have done so, he couldnt remember. As such, luckily i had to call my marshal up and get him to clarify with the rest of the WCG Admins.

I am not trying to push responsibility, i just do not want people to speculate blindly without knowing the facts.

Thanks for those who have msg me on msn and shown me your support and bothered to find out my version of the events."

LoL..that's all, the article here failed to inform our audience Wind pushed and abused WCG crew.

well the tone in which it was written made it kinda obvius something important was being left out - though i never thought something like this would be that missing part :) im guessing physical attacks occur when a person thinks he can get away with it, would be interesting to see something like that happening around here because on our tournaments admins are often friends of majority of the players so any physical attack on them would result in you being surrounded by several people with a look "you've got some problems? go outside and chill"

good thing is that it's apparently not a rule, but only a tradition that you don't publish the replays. gggggg

asia has many rules which are basically tradition, though for example in sc that rule applies to every country, nobody uploads replays until the organizer uploads them on the official webpage...it isnt written anywhere, but everyone knows it.

When I requested for the replays to an admin, he actually offered me to transfer all the replays to my USB and return it to me at the end of the day. I said no, it’s fine since I wanted the replays to be up asap.

So 15 minutes later (after some matches were over), I returned to the tournament area to transfer the replays. I went up to several computers, but I couldn’t find any. Another admin then came up to me and said that if I want replays, I should be going to the extreme left of every table, because that is where the game admins/marshals actually save the replays on.

With that, it was obviously safe to assume that I could upload the replays on this site. There was no point in keeping the replays to myself anyway.

2hours later, Adrian Tang, the head admin or whoever he is, came up to me and asked me to single out the admin who permitted me to ‘steal’ the replays. Unfortunately, in an event where I am constantly meeting unfamiliar faces, I was unable to recall so I simply replied honestly.

But he went on and said that it is forbidden to upload replays. With me being puzzled, I asked why. However, he refused to even explain, and said “NO WHYs, you have to leave this area now.”

I was absolutely appalled at his response, since I was covering this event out of good will. Prior to WCG Asia, I wasn’t even planning on attending it all, since it’s a really small event in my eyes, given that I have attended way bigger tournaments around the world. I hardly even pay any attention to DotA.

I tried to talk some sense into this 40 year old guy, but he refused to even listen, nor discuss this issue. He was constantly chanting “I don’t care. LEAVE, LEAVE, LEAVE.”

markvon called me halfway through my fruitless conversation with Adrian and told me that the admins have been instructed not to allow any MYM representatives from entering the tournament area. That was when I decided it was over and started to leave.

While I was on my way out, I met markvon who was standing outside the tournament area and told him that it’s over. That was when Adrian was pushing me out and asking me to leave like I was some sort of terrorist carrying a timed bomb, and I reacted inappropriately. That was where I was wrong, and I apologize for that.

I didn’t want to include that part above because I felt that it was really trivial. The bigger deal was obviously being banned when I was actually permitted to transfer replays by the admins in the first place.

Well if it is true that the whole thing just was a communication problem the ban from the tournament area is not correct. The Headadmin could've talked to you and ask for deleting the replays from mymym.com and ensure not to upload them before the event has ended.

Nevertheless insulting or pushing around people is not the way a coverage project or a tournament director should react. I guess both parties have shown some bad reaction or attitudes towards each other - something that eSports does not need or accept.

Also both parties should learn from it and maybe apology - I don't see any fact after both views that should keep making trouble in the future.

It's good to be bad!

Sad, but there are people and there are idiots among the organisers, aight? I think I would react the same as Wind did - someone is harsh with me, I'm gonna show disrespect as well. I hate overconfident 'i-am-the-law' freaks sitting among the important staff in ANY sort of organisation no matter how high and darn important they are. I have no connection with them - so them being impolite can in fact bite me. It is all about your sense of your value as a human and the way you think you should be treated. Position doesn't make some bastard better than you.

Don't you worry, Wind and markvon.

http://dota.sgamer.com, around 16 replays posted up shortly after the games were played, and are still up now. They are a chinese website however :P With garenatv still being so unreliable, it would be nice to have actual replays posted up after the games (especially when half the advertised streamed games weren't even streamed at all, and the other half were bugged).
