ROUND-OF-16: Aug 5th-8th.

After the first week; six days of non-stop action, a pair of matches a day, thirty games were played, twelve players advanced to the next round: A couple of Zergs, three Terrans, and seven Protosses, fiercely survived the Round-of-24.

Excitement has conquered everyone because the first week of the yearly event has finally commenced and definitely stuffed with unpredictable results, in addition, new pro-gamers are willing to take it to the next level and shine in the grandest stage of them all. However, Terran Terran is the most favorite race among the Koreans but the icons like NaDa, Sea[Shield], HwaSin, Light, and FireBatHero, failed to represent the majority as they didn't qualify for the next round. Same fate with the much anticipated come back of the "Zerg Maestro", Zerg sAviOr, albeit his name wasn't in the OSL and WCG, yet high hopes were enticed for him to make it to the MSL. On the side of the Protoss Aiur, three out of ten warriors, unfortunately fell from the bandwagon, its moving fast yet furious and heading to the next phase of the tournament.

Games will be played Tuesday until Friday of this week, 12:30 KST, and map pool has a pinch of change, Andromeda has been removed and see as it follows: Othello, Blue Storm, and Troy.*new map

Here are the matches:

August 5th
Protoss Free
0 - 2Zerg JaeDonG
Zerg July
1 - 2Zerg Luxury

Trio of Zergs played today, and fortunately two of them are bound to play for the next round. JD just simply destroyed his opponent out of his way, while Luxury showed that he is a well-rounded Zerg star as he defeated July in a hated ZvZ contest.

August 6th
Protoss BackHo
0 - 2Protoss Stork
Protoss JangBi
0 - 2
Terran Mind

It wasn't a good day for the young executors of Aiur, they got squashed and broomed aside by the current WCG overall champion Stork and the one time MSL champion Mind. Stork had his sweet revenge on BackHo (Stork was annihilated by BackHo @GOM tournament, last month) as he let the youngster taste his own version of sweep, yet crush BackHo's dream of representing Korea at the WCG, thus both champions advances to the next round.

August 7th
Protoss Much
2 - 0
Terran BByong
Protoss BeSt
2 - 0Protoss Dream.t)M18M

Today is the end of the road for the neophytes. Dream.t)M18M catched a big fish like Sea back at the first round. The fans were surprised and became curious about his match-up against BeSt, wondering if he could pull another trick, as though a time to prove himself that he is for real. But sadly the noise that Dream.t)M18M created was quell to a silence after BeSt hushed the side show, hence started his own hype as he announced his entry in the Round-of-8.

Dead end was also the scenario for the rookie terran BByong. Uncle Much taught him a tough lesson, although the lecture as for being teammates in CJ Entus. The 24 year old veteran can't let the opportunity slide this time because he suffered the elimination last year, exactly at the Round-of-16 courtesy of iloveOov. (Retired pro-gamer, now head coach of SKTelecomT1)

August 8th
Zerg Rumble
0 - 2Terran FlaSh
Terran fOrGG
2 - 0Protoss Bisu

A glorious moment for the planet Earth. A good news for the mankind. FlaSh eradicated the Zerg platoon leader Rumble. While the second match was about the MSL champions. They were both experienced and confident but only one will stand victorious at the end of the contest. It appears fOrGG, the defending MSL champion prevails yet continuous to thwart all the obstacles on his way.

The three remaining Terrans intensely survived the Round-of-16. They all swept their opponents. However, the next round is merely different, it is expected to be more intense and vicious, wherein the survival of the fittest will take place.

ROUND-OF-8: AUG 11th-14th.

Two rounds were locked in fierce clashes. The survivors are quite deserving yet sturdy to continue their conquest for representing Korea, South Korea's pride in the up coming WCG. Bigger Stage, brighter light, longer pressure and wider crowd are set ready for this round as the final stretch is fast approaching.

The defending champion Protoss Stork supasses the challenges and looking good on his WCG journey just like the previous year. Meanwhile, all the Terran Terrans are doing a great job for reaching this far even though its only their first appearance in the prestigious event. Speaking of the new comers, Protoss BeSt and Zerg Luxury are also first timers in the competition but their display of carnage caused their opponents no good while both of them savagely enter the round of 8. Talking about far accomplishment, another pair of Zerg and Protoss: Zerg JaeDonG and Protoss Much forget the bitterness of their defeat and finally thrive to reach farther than yesteryear.

Everything has been firmly said, its merely time to put everything upon action. Maps: Blue Storm, Troy and Andromeda. Here are the matches for this week:

August 11th
Protoss BeSt
1 - 2Zerg JaeDonG

Jaedong manages to halt BeSt and kick the protoss sensation out of the tournament. BeSt's best wasn't good enough against the eighteen year old Legend Killer. The Zerg star slaughter his opponent and destroyed BeSt's legendary exposure in the making, hence majority believed that he has a pretty good chance on making it to the WCG Grand Finals to suck and kill a good number of foreign blood. Nevertheless Jaedong instead will advance through and getting nearer to make his own gallant way of carrying Korea, South Korea's flag yet producing his stardom internationally.

August 12th
Terran Mind
1 - 2
Zerg Luxury

Another Zerg qualifies at the semi-finals. Mind has been doing mediocre but obviously its not enough to enter the next round. Luxury is now on his way to hunt anyone who'll stand against him along the road to the finals.

August 13th
Terran FlaSh
1 - 2Protoss Much

Uncle Much stuns Korea as he advances to the next round and leave FlaSh dead on the water. Surprise catch all the viewers flat. It wasn't a good week for FlaSh, as he lose after another on big tournaments in crucial matches. An unfortunate break for the so-called "Ultimate Weapon". His fanatics are crying out their hearts as they're wishing that this isn't because of the curse that every pro-gamer's fear. (slump) Dismay and disbelief in the face of the young Terran while completely the opposite on the determined eyes of the veteran Protoss. Much moves a step closer to the finish line.

August 14th
Protoss Stork
2 - 0
Terran fOrGG

The bird soars high again and on its way to land on the semi-finals. Stork relentlessly destroyed fOrGG. The reigning MSL champion is the remaining Terran before today but eventually fail to qualify. Its the first time in the history of WCG Korea, South Korea that they will not have a Terran representative in the Grand Finals. A first time for everything, an old saying that occurs right infront of our eyes. However, Stork is in no way to be stopped, like a freight train at full throttle.

FINAL FOUR: Aug 16th.

Survive - Is more than a verb for a warrior. An act, a law, thus a fundamental in order to live on a battle yet upon dire situation where death is wandering around. After three weeks of rigoruous and deadly encounters. Only four made it alive and stood with courage on their very knees.

Survivors as you may call them. Unfortunately, The Terran race didn't make it thus far. First time in the history of WCG that there will be no Korean Terran participation. Two Zergs and Protosses, a pair of both, shown their prowess and determination which are merely strong indications that they deserved to be on the final four.

Blood is thicker than water, ironic isn't it? On Saturday, the semi-finals is set to be a mirror match for both scheduled games. The same races would beat each other until the end. Then find out who'll stage and play in the national finals. And also the competition for the last spot for the national team that will represent Korea, South Korea on the Grand Finals at Cologne, Germany Germany.

The stake is getting bigger than ever. This is consider aptly the critical juncture of the whole competition. Who will win to ensure their seats as representatives yet a chance to be crowned as national champion? And who will be the two unlucky warriors that would be left out? To fight for the third final slot, with all their might in order to suffice their desire to win and be part of the national representation.

Here are the results:

Jaedong [2-0] Luxury
Zerg JaeDonG
vsZerg Luxury
Troy
Zerg JaeDonGvsZerg LuxuryAndromeda
Zerg JaeDonGvsZerg LuxuryOthello

JaeDonG has a superior ZvZ record with a 79% against Luxury's 67%. He proves again that he is the best Zerg today by defeating a tough Zerg contender. It was a blow-out as he walks his way to the finals. JaeDonG didn't allow his opponent to have a single win. He is now guaranteed to be in the Grand Finals that will be held in Cologne, Germany Germany. Yet a chance to be the number one placer at the WCG Korea, South Korea.

Much [0-2] Stork
Protoss Much
vsProtoss Stork
Troy
Protoss MuchvsProtoss StorkAndromeda
Protoss MuchvsProtoss StorkOthello

Same story like the first match. Stork eliminated Much in a single-sided, two-to-nothing victory. An awesome win for the defending WCG gold medalist. The Dinosaur Protoss or Stork's more known monicker "The Bird" flaunts again his PvP expertise. He is now sure to revisit the WCG. He is also going to the national finals again to compromise his short campaign last year. (Stork was a second placer next to national champion, Terran HwaSin.) This an opportunity for redemption, a chance once again to possibly land at the first place in the nationwide competition.

WCG Korea's GRAND FINALS

August 17, 2008 - The tournament officially ended. It has been decided after more than three weeks of heavy battles. Finally the top trio of Korean pro-gamers has emerged all above the rest. They done a great job to outlast the challenges. The display of greatness is likely expected by the whole world. A fantastic show out of the three representatives at the Grand Finals in Cologne, Germany Germany is everbody's pleasure.

Here are the winners:

GoldZerg JaeDonG

Silver Protoss Stork

BronzeZerg Luxury

JaeDonG [2-0] Stork
Zerg JaeDonG
>Protoss Stork
Andromeda
Zerg JaeDonG>
Protoss StorkOthello
Zerg JaeDonGvsProtoss StorkBlue Storm

JaeDonG has a hangover on his brooming habit. He swept Stork out of the competition. The Bird Protoss remains to be as a first runner up, with similar scenario last year at WCG Korea, South Korea. The Legend Killer kills the tale of Stork as he is the current defending overall champion of WCG StarCraft. Nevertheless JaeDonG will still be joined by Stork on the trip to the Grand Finals, as both competitiors are going to represent their country, for they qualified as representatives of the prolific gaming-country of south-east Asia.

Much [1-2] Luxury
Protoss Much
<Zerg Luxury
Andromeda
Protoss Much>Zerg LuxuryOthello
Protoss Much<Zerg LuxuryBlue Storm

Luxury had the first game thus Much immediately retaliates. It was an intense moment for both as losing is like death. The winner of the match will be the third placer. Meaning, victory will ensure a ticket to the Grand Finals along with the second and first placers of the competition to represent Korea in the WCG Grand Finals. Luxury hails big time. He defeated Much in a heart beating clutch game. Luxury's win is aptly a shot to become a gold medalist in the prestigious global event.

Lol agreed. They should give more spots to Koreans to be honest. If you look at all the matches they were very close. All 2-1.

Ya you could play with Koreans only, but its the olympic spirit. Anyone of any country (which is sponsored ;o) has the chance to participate.

And its the same with soccer and the world championship. There could be 25 instead of 16 european teams.

There were two tournaments before. One pro only and and one non pro tourney to qualify for the final.
