ESWC: fnatic was being criticized

The last but one ESWC pre-qualifier was held in Stockholm, Sweden at the well-known gaming center called Inferno Online. 28 teams were participating, some of them professionals while others were unknown or belong to the Swedish semi-professional scene - all fighting for the two spots to ESWC Swedish Final Qualifier that will be launched this summer at DreamHack Summer 2008.

It was predicted at early stage that both Sweden fnatic and Sweden blank, along with GeT_RiGhT and face, would make it furthest, however, the final match between these two powerhouses was never settled, seeing that fnatic gave walk-over.

As a result of this, fnatic was being dragged and heavily criticized by the Swedish Counter-Strike scene. Even the personnel of Inferno Online were threathing fnatic with disqualification, according to Sweden Patrik 'cArn' Sattermon. You can find his whole statement in his own blog, over at fnatic.com.

These are the teams that are qualified for now:

Sweden fnatic (cArn, ins, Archi, dsn, f0rest)
Sweden blank (JAEGARN, GeT_RiGhT, face, Nikolaus, Gux)
Sweden SK Gaming (allen, walle, RobbaN, SpawN, Tentpole)
Sweden Playzone (threat, danne, kHRYSTAL, Stranger, qp)
Sweden Skillz of Borås (xpozer, fuze, flipper, ninoze, norske)
Sweden Matrix-Gaming (unknown)

The last pre-qualifier will be held at DreamHack as well, just before the real qualification starts with autoberths for the ESWC Grand Final 2008 of San Jose (CA), USA.

As professional gamers their job is to play and represent their team. I dont think this could happen in any other sport (for example football teams not playing because they are tired or want to go home ? )
I really anticipated the final last night and i got very disappointed by fnatic . I dont think that blog gave any reasonable explanation.

Well, tbh it's a pre-qualifier and since both fnatic and blank already were guaranteed the positions in ESWC Swedish Qualifier, I don't see any meaning in cancelling their trip home because of one game.

this happens in any type of game and or sport(if you follow sports a lot you cna even say it happens quite often in tournaments, champions league, UEFA cup, World Cup(s), European Championships etc etc), fnatic has all the rights and w/e to do this. Of course it's not nice for the spectators and stuff, but if it's fnatic's choice.

Could you give some examples?
Because i pretty much follow sport closely.
And i havent seen the above happen before.
Besides people talk about E-sport getting to be on the same level as ordinary sport. But that cant happend when people aint showing that needed professionalism.

whatch football (soccer) world cup group stages.
Don't tell me you never saw 2 team just pass the ball around the mid field for 20-30min because both were in the next round already.
Tennis qualifiers, you never saw finals not being played? it even happens at non proffesional level.
Atlethics the same, you ever saw a world class 100m sprint at a qualifier event?

want more?

Your example with the soccer teams is only your own and some others speculations. They do play the games.
And i must say i have never heard of tennis games not being played.
And yes in athletics all have to qualify one way or another. You can qualify by being top 4 at a European championship, for example. But they have to qualify.

of course they do play the game, didn't fnatic 'play' the game?

teams/players play too achieve a goal, this is either to win or to qualify. When this is achieved, and there is no need for anything else, it's enough.
Then the soccer teams is not my own cause I don't play WORLD CUP! GROUP STAGE :)
It's of course possible that you haven't heard about tennis because they don't make a big deal out of it, something that did happen here.
There's also loads of 'semi-pro' athletics games for which you have too qualify, and if proffesionals come too such an event they don't really try to preform top top, this isn't really spectator friendly is it?
Champions league soccer group stage Man. United playing against an rather unknown Oekranien (don't know how that's spelled) football club: Man. United won't be using all of their top players, that's the same again.
There's millions and millions of examples, you just dont' seem too get it like many others.

Lets stop it here.
But FYI, there is a difference between not playing at all, and using backups. fnatic cant use backups, but they know they have to play the game from when they leave home.
But lets stop it.

This happens all the time in Portugal at the ESWC pre-qualifiers. Since both teams are already qualified and it's usually late most of them agree not to play the final, I mean, the point it's to qualify teams, I think the final isn't all that important and I don't understand all this fuss about such matter.

Its a joke that fnatic has to pre-qualify for the swedish finals as reigning champion and best team in the world..

can't really catch the purpose of this news item, both teams were qualified there's nothing wrong about leaving earlier, it's their problem if this will later affect their seeding to the swedish final..

just focus on the subject, the pre qualifier.. :|

First off, this newspost was written to clarify that both fnatic and blank are one step closer to the ESWC Finals in France, and that fnatic got criticized for their decision. It's news. Don't like it? Then don't read it.

Second, your earlier comment was highly inappropriate as it was refering to MYM Staff not doing their job correctly.

I think It's a joke and an insult to threat Fnatic with a disqualification. They are the champions and they also qualified like all others.
