We previously reported here that Blizzard just announced the last race in StarCraft II, the Zerg. Right now, the Zerg section on starcraft2.com has just been activated.

There was a lot of excitement when the first Zerg teaser was shown by Blizzard. After that, concept pictures, in-game videos or FPVODs of Korean progamers started flowing towards the community, and the positive feedback that was manifested was something that Blizzard representatives sure enjoyed.

Just after the press conference, the Zerg Q&A Batch and progamer interviews, a new change was spotted: the Zerg section on www.starcraft2.com came online. So far we have 2 new units there: the Hydralisk and the Mutalisk. Let's take a look at them:

Zerg Hydralisk

Type: Medium Assault Warrior Core Genus: Slothien Primary Attack: Needle Spines

The Hydralisk has managed to keep its spot it had in Brood War, with no apparent changes in its abilities, meaning that it is still a medium sized unit capable of hitting both ground and air units.

Hydralisks are especially fond of lying in wait for their prey. Groups of them have been observed burrowing into the ground in the pathway of civilian workers, uncovering themselves when they sense an opponent is near. Ambushing from burrowed positions is a favored hydralisk battle tactic, with hydralisks showing a preference for waiting until an enemy has passed before emerging to attack, or boxing in a group of enemies to destroy them with a deadly crossfire.

The second new unit on the site is the primary aerial unit, the Mutalisk:

Zerg Mutalisk

Type: Medium Attack Flyer Core Genus: Mantis Screamer Primary Attack: Glave Wurm

The Mutalisk did not change either, or so it seems: it is still a fast unit, with rather low HP and the same bounce attack type that hits up to 3 targets.

Mutalisks form the primary flying forces of the Zerg, making hit-and-run attacks against vulnerable installations and wheeling across the skies in prodigious numbers above Zerg nests or land-based forces. Many attempted engagements with the Zerg have collapsed due to the rapid arrival of large numbers of Mutalisks before any meaningful air defense could be mustered. Under these circumstances the total loss of the forces involved is virtually guaranteed.
