eSports at the Chinese Olympics

Yesterday, the CEO of Global Gaming League Ted Owen announced that the Olympics and the Digital Games are going to cooperate which means that the eSports tournament will be held within the scope of the summer's China Beijing Olympics. The event is going to take place in China Shanghai, where the matches of the Olympic Soccer games will be played as well.

It is important to to emphasise that the Digital Games will not be an official part of the Olympics even though the Chinese organizers have allowed GGL to use the official logo of the Olympic Games. Nevertheless, this will definitely give eSports a worldwide boost and account for the acceptance of eSport as a real sport. Ted Owen looks up at the event very optimistic: "We believe the crowds we'll get will be far larger than for the Olympic games themselves."

In the forthcoming days and weeks, the GGL will disclose more information about the games and the qualification tournaments, which will be held soon.

Kinda funny that the news on the Chinese website is out for 2 weeks now and since i posted it on GosuGamers.net all website's are posting about it while before, no one even noticed it in like a forum or in a newsreport .... Even CNN and SK... Little bit strange.

Yeah, how could we by any chance overlook "the largest international StarCraft, Warcraft and DotA community that covers worldwide events such as World Cyber Games, Electronic Sports World Cup, DreamHack and many more"...

If you broke the story; congratulations. But we source where we find our stories, and sorry we didn't go to gosugamers for it.

Anyway, I think you shoot over the target if you take that CNN just posted it after seeing it on GG.net; it has an interview with the CEO and seems like it has been under way for at least a day or two.

So tell me your thoughts about this than:

2008-1-30 - News is out on the Chinese Website
2008-2-15 - Cr1stal finds the news by excident and spends 3 hours of resource, writing, translating. title: "eSport meets the Olympics"
2008-2-16 - Cnn posts about it with the title : "Video games meet the China Olympics" and have indeed an Interview with the CEO of GGl China or something... And some of the facts are the same that i translated... Ofcourse this could be told them by the CEO .....
2008-2-16 - MeetYourMakers notice the post on CNN, according to them..

So imo its not that strange that I conclude myMYM has it from GG? Why mock at GosuGamers than? Btw.. conclusion?: cnn reads gosugamers??? ^^

If you knew my standings on this topic you wouldn't even bother starting this discussion. You can ask anyone of my ESup's what I say about sourcing, and you will get the same answer: "Stay true to your source".

Whether or not you believe me is not my problem; I don't care. But be sure that if we coincidently read a story on GG.net and then post it, we will link back. Because that is what we expect everyone else to do.

And I will put a months wage on stake about the CNN-thing. I can almost with 100% certainty say that the story is based on a PR-work by GGL themselves.

And please. Look at how many pages has the news now. GameRiot broke it yesterday along with CNN, SK wrote it and now we have it. It's not like GG.net is the only page with the story on.

Heyo Cr1stal, you worked with me before and you know that I have never enforced lying, especially when it comes to sourcing newsposts.

It may be clear that you posted the news first, but I got that CNN link via MSN from Mahmood who works for GGL, and we (MYM) didn't write this news based on your post at gg.net. I'm sure you can tell by reading this as well.

well this i proberly not he right place to post this but i am beginning to get the feeling that many people are starting to post negative comments evry time a news is added, i really think you that is unfair, they are giving you a public service for free so you should be happy, in reality they could just DONT GIVE A SHIT, and just play..
If any of you play in a team, i bet not even the half of you deliver this kind of public services..!

Seriously it means nothing.

CIG NEVER do a tournament for the community and pros. They just wanted to make money instead of improving the tournament quality.

What games? What are the prizes? (Olympics usually just give medals, and depending on what country you came from you would get money from your home country for winning to encourage athletes to compete for their countries)

Will Governments be responsible for supplying prize money, or is this just for the glory (like I believe it should be). Either way, I can't wait to see what the games are and how they do the qualies.
