Blizzard to release No-CD patch for WC3

About a week ago, Blizzard’s Community manager, Karune has publicly announced on the official Blizzard forums that he will constantly be leaving updates and announcements on the upcoming Warcraft 3 patch (See - Blizzard: "We are (still) working on it")

Today, the amicable Karune has left us with another update after an extensive discussion with the producer. According to the post on Blizzard’s forums, the 1.22 patch will be moved up in the priority list. In addition to that, a No-CD patch will also be released before the 28th of January.

The estimated time of completion for the gameplay patch is yet to be disclosed.

The entire post from the Blizzard forum can be found below:

January 15th, 2008 - The producer has gotten back to me and the patch for Warcraft III will be moved up on the priority list. They also have intentions of including a no CD patch prior to the gameplay patch. The no CD patch could be finished as early as January 28th. I should also be getting an estimated time of completion for the gameplay patch shortly. In addition, at the convenience of the development team, I also hope to interview one of the producers on the process of patch creation.

Nice! I only got one drive :D I prefer to use something released by Blizzard, instead of making own images.

no cd is cool because EVEN with my official CD the game do not run on Windows XP, have to launch the game more than 10 times in a row. (it works better on linux).

And that a good news too for Linux users because mini images does not work on Linux (or with a little hack).

And i wont have to take my cd everywhere and to victim of a fucker who steals cd-keys (yeah i should not have taken the cd-key too ...)

I wonder what they want to achieve with that strategy. Removing the CD requirement will lead to more battle.net users, so is it simply activating old users or going with time ( look f.e. at steam platform ), or maybe both?

I guess they are preparing procedures that will come in place with StarCraft 2, and re-activating the userbase to easily move them over when the new game is being released.

Imo this is just a useless patch, just to satisfy "US" a bit. No Blizz we want a balance patch not a no cd patch. We are using images with deamontools for years. Come one give "US" what we want -..-

yeah... dtools and mini images rule... for sc I just use the whole cd image saved to the hdd... doesn't eat up that much space anyway... this is just dust in our eyes... if they would announce that all the games they will produce from now on will include such a feature... now that would be news...
