As most undead players know and aknowledge the greatest asset of the race is the Death Knight/Lich spell nuke. With the power to turn games, destroy armies and decimate heroes it is truly something for all the other races to fear. But is there nothing else to be afraid of in the undead arsenal? Isn't undead usually the one forced to flee in a equal-sized army battle? Isn't the panda and warden the bane of gargs? Isn't the human nuke and towers in a league of its own? How many fiends can some grunts walk down? (I hope you got that last one :)

Well, most undeads hug their plush destroyers and do the same strategies over and over with little effect. But some of us have silently crafted new strategies, revived new demons and heroes from the grave and brought forth new plans on how to bring shadow to the light.

Sweet's Damage Destroyer: As all undead players know, the reason orc is hard to fight is because of two things:
1: The dps of orc units is really high. If you add in chainwave they can, even if you do have healing scrolls, decimate your entire ground force. With that done they can put some heavy focus down on your destroyers with wyvern.
2: As soon as the orc gains raiders with ensnare he can force you to town portal as soon as he gets you in his sights. This is a powerful tool that he can either use to power creep, expand or both. The advantage gained forces the undead to either do a risky counter-expand or to hope that he has better micro than his opponent.

So, how can undead eliminate not only the orc mid game advantage, but the area of effect damage as well? Sweet considered his options and came up with this strategy that I like to call Damage Destroyer.

Early game: Start the game out with a regular fiend build. Build 2 fiends and then a ghoul, then another fiend. This is because you will need more lumber than usual when you hit tier 2, so best start getting it now. If your base is hard to close up you might want to get 4 fiends instead of 3 before you tech. If you spawn far from your enemy you can wait with the nerubian tower so you can tech slightly faster. When playing this strategy it is important to mind 2 things:
1: Trying to calculate the orc creeping pattern.
2: Trying to be at his base as he puts down his beastiaries.
Also depending on the map you must decide between harassing his army until he gets tier 2 (if his base is hard to get at) or to harass his burrows (if, ya know, they are easy to get at :). Burrows are of course to prefer, but make sure to run if he tps in. Having lvl 2 on your dk is a must before though, so you can outrun his units. While teching, add 1-2 ghouls to lumber. 2 preferably unless you've had some losses and need the gold. After being chased off from harassing, go creep something and come back.

Mid Game: As the mid game starts you should already be at his base tearing down his beastiaries. With secret ninja micro techniques you should try to stay as long as possible. Abuse coil and sacrifice your teleport scroll if you need to. The time you gain on him not having beastiaries going up is really going to help in the next phase. While you are doing this, put down one temple and one slaughterhouse. Upgrade armor on your fiends. Pick up a pit lord. As soon as you have one statue and 2 banshee out from your temple, grab a rod for your pit lord (try to have at least 2 charges left for the dk) pull your ghouls off of lumber and push the orc base. At this stage it's not so important to really kill anything or destroy any buildings as it is to prevent him from getting wyvern or expanding. The army you currently control should not be something the orc can handle at this stage. If you can take down a beastiary, kill a few units, that's a really nice plus. Tech to tier 3 as soon as you see that you are pushing him back into his base. While teching, get the banshee upgrade and build a few more statues.

Late Game: If you do manage to kill a few units or beastiaries/burrows, try to go creep your pit lord to level 3. Not so much for the spell improvement on Howl as much as the enhanced hp and mana pool acctually :P. As you hit tier 3, get destroyer form and hit his base. Put anti-magic shell on your heroes and your fiends. The combined damage reduction of the howl and curse will reduce his mostly ground army to nothing. His chainwave will deal close to no damage whatsoever, nor will his units. At this point you should be able to take the win home quite easily. If he has demolishers, rather try to move your banshees around than try to rush them until the orcish frontline starts to fall. If he does manage to get spirit walkers, pick up a lich and upgrade to master banshee. The walkers will feel quite lonely when the grunts are hacking down their former allies. Nova and coil can take out a few lone walkers before they can do any real harm.

Well then, that's basically it for strategy number one. Try to have an expansion spot crept before you hit his base at tier 3. If things go into a stalemate you can always expand and take him on the normal way.

Oh man, I'll just have to credit this strategy that I got beat by yesterday. It's so complete that I have no idea whatsoever what can be done against it. It's a mirror strategy, so I supose you could do the same thing, but apart from that I mean :P

Okay, so you start out the game with Dreadlord and spiders + 1-2 towers in your base. Pick carrion swarm and try to creep for level 3. While teching to tier 2, get an expansion if possible. As you hit tier 2, get web, a lich and banshees with adept upgrade. You might want to stay a little defensive as your opponent might get aboms before you (ghouls aren't a problem because of nova/swarm). As you hit tier 3 you get banshee master upgrade, and he can no longer use aboms.

The point of the strategy is to make ghouls useless with the dual aoe, and destroyers and aboms useless with banshee. The only thing that remains is... well, the same units. And you can probably stack up a few wins with this before everyone else is using it ^^

I'll update this later with killers on the other races.

The speed of dark depends on the level of unholy aura on your death knight.

I'll add more strategies here later as I said, so there's still time for you to start disliking the article :). It's more or less impossible for me to keep track of who really invented a strategy, so I'll use who made it popular instead :P

The unead race are the only ones where I like all of their heros, after that, I only like maybe one or two of the other races heros. So they can be quite a force, when their powers are wielded correctly.

hehe star actually did. I did interview him for the great game he put up in an In.cup.

I was trying to summarize and make it easy to read and follow using the interview lay-out.

even though, i haven't seen a lot of ppl using that strategy I still saw it been used with great results a couple times (i think it was an ud russian player).

as Star was saying, the major bad thing with this one is the fact you have to time it right. to know exactly when to push and when to start running because doing banshees its a tricky business.

also mance the strategy star used was vs NE. star played in that in.cup vs. check ;).

Hold the S cause i'm an AINT.
