Hi there folks, itŽs me again with a new column related to my holdiay job. Graduated from school I was about to face 3 months of doing nothing and just being lazy all day until in October my studies will start. This canŽt go on, I thought by myself and was looking around in the right time to get me a job. Most of the firms I applied to never wrote/ phoned me back. But with luck on my side I found a job at a shift-working company. So far so good I thought, after the application interview with office lady I signed my contract and at first i was frustrated that I could on only work 41 days. If I worked more I would have to pay social substractions. (You can work a maximum of 50 days having not to pay those substractions). Ok, so here I am, standing in a huge hall full of machines with people standing next to them and putting papers on the conveyer or special devices. This is the work I should do all 41 days long, 8 hours a day. My first shift started at 14:00 and should end at 22:00. I started to work in another hall, called Finshing. My job was to put small papers with numbers on the with rubber-holded commercial bundles. Doing this eight houres long would kill me, I thought as it was so damn boring within the first quarter. But luckily the machines were standing all the time with the machine operator not being able to repair them. The same situation occured the first week for like 3-4 hours every day. I was about to go nuts, always telling me that I need the money and dreaming about what things I will buy with the cash. Oh, and if that didnŽt sound boring, well, there are still my collegues around me helping me through the day. Just joking..... the workers down there are all, well, I call them `special`. Either they are very stupid or they are on the edge of being retarded. I usually donŽt judge about those kind of people but they I had no chance but to see them that way. Want a example,eh ? Ok, a very special friend of mine. Luckily, I only worked a week with him. He always made some strange noises and screamed around, I donŽt know why. He made so bad jokes and always looked at you to see if you like those jokes... He stared after every women passing him and always made weirdo comments about them, like "I gonnŽ fuck her tonight, oh yeah she will grind on my **** ". If he was standing behind a woman if pretended to touch her booty all the time. It was so stupid to look on. I was really glad of getting out there and coming to another hall the "Production". Working in this big hall was quite different, while the finishing hall had air condition and was very quite the production hall was the very opposite. It was very very hot in there, I guess like 40 °C and so loud that you needed ear protection. Of course the a big part of the workers had none. I was doing exhausting and tiring work down there all the time like putting 10 catalogues on a conveyer all day long, while my brothers got on some light work like putting some small papers somewhere. ItŽs always the same I always get the crap work. After two weeks I regreted to sign the contract, it was so boring and the time wonŽt pass fast. I only wanted to get out of there. But the things I wanted to buy kept me in my personal hell. So will sum up , the work was very shitty, the people sucked and the payment was ridicoules. I got only 6,4 € per hour. But the best thing has yet to come. Even though I only worked 39 ( I didnŽt want anymore so I decided to quit earlier), I got to pay my social substractions. Now I was really angry and asked the office lady what the fuck is going wrong. She told me that I am no student or pupil anymore and so I have to pay that. I was like "WHAT THE FUCK ?" Even my contract told me that I didnŽt have to pay the fees. So I am lacking of 700 Euros out of my calcualted 19000 Euros. I now have to wait for the remaining money till I get my student card on the 11 September and then probably wait till October 15 when the next money is paid to the workers. I was only able to buy me a Notebook. The other things I wanted to buy still have to wait till Ocotober. I sweared my self that I will never work there again. The upcoming studying fees I will pay by working at the Caritas, a social-health company. So my aim is to stuy hard, so that need to work in such a factory again. My advice: People learn hard to reach your goals, make something out of your life. Hopefully, no one of will end like the people in those companies. Just my two cents about my holiday job. Sayd

At first: i think you mean 1900 Euro and not 19000, or? ;) I was in the same situation like you this summer, but luckily one of my neighbours had a nice job for me. So i worked for the DSK (Deutsche Steinkohle AG) and my job was to put letters in envelopes, put documents at the right place and so on. Sometimes i also prepared old documents for the "ScanCenter", i heard the job there was kinda similar to the ones you described ;). In the first weeks, i worked together with another guy of my age, he worked in the ScanCenter last year and he said the same things about that job like you did about yours (espcially about the people there). After this guy was gone, i even had my own bureau :). And the best thing is: at the end, i got 5 days paid holiday :D (btw i got 8 Euro/hour). So, i can say, i was extremely lucky with my job, but i guess the majority of holiday jobs are like yours. GadZ Why are we so fucking handsome?

We have something similar here in Czech, taiwanese company "Asus" LoL. It's not even a holiday job, but regular one :o!.. Month salary for the lowest workers (no english, no experience, no brain) is sth about 320 euroes. ;> And about those companies not phoning/emailing back, I guess it's all the same anywhere, maybe that's reason why I don't have a job :D. Jeez christ what kinda salary is that 6.4 Euro ?! i get like 17 euro for typing on a computer. And btw you should never get a job at a warehouse, i havn't heard about anybody being satisfied with such a job T_T If i cant kill you with my M4 ILL!! errh POKE YOU IN THE EYE

a friend of mine does similiar things , dropping bags of chemical stuff. he gets like 10,90 € per hour. but only cause is father is a big man in that company edit: haha best thing: I would get 2 days paid holiday if i worked a full month: ok i started from 3rd july till 31 august. I wanted 4 days holiday, but she told me i dont get the holidays from july becuse i didnt worked from the beginning. No offence man but you chouse this kind of work and you should have though more clearly about it before you signed the contract. The loosing 2 holidays was a bitch had something simular but i won =) Every one gets lucky and unlucky, since there could be a guy working in a clouse by building doing twise less of work and getting 3 times the pay couse he got lucky, but it was temporary so let it just be an expiriance =) Sup?

Regardless of what ur making....it's good experience...u'll probly learn that you want to find a job that pays a lil better. I still dont make a lot in my job, but I defiantely do better then my previous ones, and I love my job....and most importantly mate, work is what you make it. Find something you like...even if it doesnt pay as much as some others might....no point in being unhappy all day long...it's your life...only get 1 chance at it. "Chance Favors The Prepared Mind."

Man, im looking for work at the moment and i hope its not going to be something awful. I would love to have a job where I do the kind Gadz described. #TaZz don't compare Danish salaries with salaries in other countriesthx :) You in Denmark get a lot more than ppl in other countries.
