Imagine a huge football fan. It shouldn't be so hard to imagine, because there are billions of them in the world, literally. It's trendy and cool to be a football fan. And anyway, why not? I always believe you get born, later you die, and everything in between is for you to fill in however you like. A simple philosophy. To find something you are truly passionate about can sometimes take the better part of your life. When you find something early on in your life, you should consider yourself lucky.

You can be a fan of something or someone for any reason. Perhaps they embody a spirit that you wish you had, or they followed career paths that you wish you could. Maybe later you even will. Maybe not. Maybe your idol's story is a story that is about beating the odds in an inspiring way. Or you can see their success to be really deserved because you admire their character and so on.

So is it cool to be a soccer fan? Usually I have found that it is. There is no stigmatization. Here we are, rooting for greater fame and acknowledgment of the eSports Scene, and at the same time we're making a big mistake. Anyone who announces themselves to be a fan of an eSports team or player will get shot down by other people. You have to ask yourself why.

P.J. Orgues (also known as ToaD or JuneWoo) used to be a huge soccer fan, but due to his disability he was unable to be a practitioner of the sport itself anymore. Because of his disability, his life changed. He doesn't ever complain about it, but it has made a difference. Because he can't play sports very well anymore, he has gained other interests. Now he likes to play computer games, and follow the eSports scene. Here is a guy with no malice in himself at all, who commits himself wholeheartedly to the support of a team or player. He is not afraid to tell other people that he is a fan - while many other fans apprehensively hide the fact that they like a player or team. "What if someone calls you a fanboy?"

In my own experience, I've been a fan of any number of people, but usually not for life. There was a time I really admired Schwarzenegger, because I thought he was so cool and big and strong. I didn't notice the funny accent or the poor acting, instead I saw a dragon-slayer that I wish I could be. I was young, later I grew up, my interests changed, and so did my idols. My dad has been an idol for me for my whole life pretty much. I've idolized other WC3 players. For any kind of reason, such things can change and it is not for other people to judge why.

As Orgues entered the eSports scene, he became a fan of Lyn. Perhaps he thought Lyn looked handsome, played so well, and gave cool interviews. Because of Lyn, he became a fan of what was the World Elite team at that time. Later, as those players went to SK, he became an avid fan supporter.

He caught a lot of spotlights because of his story and was even praised into the sky by Malystryx, a big SK fan himself. Of course, Malystryx works there now so he can't be expected to change his idols any time soon.

Because of whatever reason, Orgues has come to identify himself more with the MYM squad now. Do you know the reason? I certainly don't. Maybe it has nothing to do with Lyn or the SK players themselves, but the feeling he gets when he reads SK forums full of crap about how Toad is such a fanboy... Yes he is, and so what? He has never done anyone any wrong, is in the eSports scene because he has a passion for something and because he can't do sports anymore, and some people see that as just cause for shooting him down with malicious jokes and so forth. It is nothing short of childhood bullying, with a big bunch of childish retards doing the bullying and with the victim trying to shrug it off maturely.

For someone where eSports is a big part of his life, how do you think it feels when everyone is jumping a bandwagon to attack him like that? What has he done to you?

Oh and Malystryx, I'm not sure that it's legally correct to put up someone's pictures with a bunch of text balloons of things he never said or never would say. It is so unclassy..

Well, being a football fan is not cool to me.. I hate all those retards who histerically support some random guys just because they come from the same city/country...

It could even be assimilate as some kind of neo-racism.

I prefer individual sport where you will more likely support someone for other reasons than his nationality (like his playstyle, his attitude, his comments..)

'It could even be assimilate as some kind of neo-racism.'
You're a waste of oxygen. Not that's neo-racism, even though i'm 100% serious.

well there is a lot of psychiatrists who assimilate team sport and particulary football with racism.
But ye, it's better to be drunked, shout some non-sense in the stadium and don't think too much about that.

Did you ever wonder why you support so much your national team ?
And why you feel better when this team wins?
I'm not recommanding you any book, just some basic thinking, I think you can do that.
(10 months ago)  #171 sellah

Racism is based on hate and i can't see any in supporting your team. Well, not when the huge majority of the fans are concerned, obviously there are some people that hate the other national team REALLY hard, but then they are probably just racists and football fans at a time and the game itself isn't what really makes them hate the others.
Also, supporting your team isnt THAT pointless and meaningless after all.
The country that wins some competition ALWAYS gains some pride, China and Olympics are a great example. Or maybe Spain and the Eurocup. Winning a serious competition gains you other countries' attention, respect and what obviously follows - money.
Some psychiatrists just making an argument dont exactly make it true, you realize that? :D
(10 months ago)  #189 Celestium

well the only thing that each single player of the 2 teams has, respectively, in common, is the nationality.

Automatically supporting the players of your own team consists on establishing an "a priori" difference between players based in this case on the nationality, and nothing more.

This is "my" definition of racism, although maybe not yours.
(10 months ago)  #203 Shival
Shival
That's called nationalism.

Racism is thinking one nation's team is better than all the others while there is no valid reason to think so. But even that is somewhat of a stretch of actuall racism.

Okay first of all I read through all these "posts" ( I purposely wrote "posts" because 99,9% of the so called "posts" are just utterly bullshit ).

So let me start with some basic things.

1. If you insult someone it just shows that you ran out of arguments and therefore just shows your low IQ and how easy it is to use Windows ( screw you Bill Gates allowing all those people to have an efficient PC )

2. If you don't even have the slightest clue, do me a favor and stop bothering my mind with reading your senseless posts. ( If anyone will reply to me saying "You don't have to read it blabla" or anything like that I just have to say that my eyes just read faster than I am able to realize that it's bullshit. )

3. I really don't know what people taught you guys but my mum always said that in a conversation your counterpart doesn't always have the same opinion as you may have and therefore you have to persuade him. Actually "persuading" isn't meant as "loloollolololo fucking traitor noob" or some other stupid football-fan things.

Ok so after we got the basics for holding an appropriate conversation ( "appropriate" meaning not a high level conversation since swearing is the daily-routine of an e-sport fan as you may have already noticed in my post =D )

Well let's, here in Germany we have something like "free will" don't know if you ever heard about it but it's quite common in a "democracy" ( ya really democracy really exists and so does the free will, no matter what your dictator or the army tries to tell you ).

How can you insult someone on making a decision based only on his own existence without hurting or in any way molesting others? ( you may be molested by him joining MYM since they are soooooooooooo evil archrivals. I mean SK and MYM are fighting for like 1300 years with having massive people dying on both sides ~.~ ).

Also it hurts me to read all this narrow-minded things. "you may not join this and this team just because you are in this team". Maybe you fell like you would have the right to do such things as to prohibit someone doing anything. Ah wait just because your social environment does this to you, you and the people near to you have this right ( except you live in a totalitarian country, which I won't mention *cough* ).

If also find it totally disturbing to even have to read such articles because they just show the stupidity this totally overwhelm the e-sport scene nowadays.

Summary for all the guys who are to lazy to read through my flame&whine&maybe wannabe constructive post:

Who are you to insult another person by his own mind? And no I won't count I'm this and that guy who is totally random and hasn't achieved anything comparable to Toad.

P.S.: If you seriously want to reply to me better think about it since I DO NOT want to WASTE my time with some ignorant fags who just flame for its own sake

Well, either your eyes are really fast, or your mind really slow ;) (just kidding)

I have to say, well said. In the end it all comes down to his own free will. He can choose whatever he wants without hurting others, physically or emotionally.

Too bad as you've said, there are too many narrow-minded 'things', who do not understand free will. All they're saying is HE shouldn't do it because THEY think it's wrong. Sometimes adding insults to the list, which I seriously dislike.

You don't realize one, highly important thing. The whole traitor-thingy was just a response to the Grubby's comparision to football, because he said it's so cool to be football fan. It is indeed, however it aint very cool when you switch the teams of your interests that suddenly and Grubby seemed to forget it all while comparing those two thus describing it as if it was perfect. It is certainly not, well not for everyone, cause that's obvious that flipflopping teams will make one team's fans hate you and i really mean _hate_, not just post crap on online forums because i don't really think many people in here would say anything to toad in reallife, nor they care about him very much.
Then again - you started talking just about us, warcraft and SK fans who insult toad, while it is a bigger case and definiately not just a one of these forums. So i don't really think you should be calling anyone dumb because they insult someone who does what toad did, because people like football or whatever sport fans insult those who switch teams that quickly all the time. The whole point of my statement is that you shouldnt start discussing whether calling someone a traitor is good or not here because this things is sooo much wider and concerns like 99% of every sports that have fans and rival teams and the e-sport is just a very small part of that.
I dont want to discuss whether it's good or not, even though i think you overexaggerate the meaning of freewill, it's just that nobody makes you to support the first team and then quit doing it.

You're the prime example of being narrow-minded. Seriously, grasp the concept that other people are different and therefore have different beliefs who do not always match your own, their beliefs are not per definition wrong. Again, I can't seem to say it enough, it's no reason to blame them.

While I can't speak for laskAMAZING, I can pretty much assume he thinks everyone who makes insults for no reason 'dumb'. So whether it's in a different sport, or maybe even in a different world, he still thinks they are narrow-minded and so do I. It doesn't matter that it happens alot elsewhere, you have to start saying this somewhere. Or how do you think anything has gotten bigger?

If you hate other people just because they switch the teams, this isn't fanboyism anymore this is just total fanaticism. You hate others just because they choose a different thing and do not share your opinion in one certain thing. Sorry but seriously if you feel like that you should go see a doctor since this is far from being normal ( This is NO flame or anything since such a behavior is highly alarming )

you know just because others are doing it all the time it doesn't mean it's a good choice. You can't go outside and steal everything you see just because millions of people all over the world are doing it every day. Also those "fans" as you call them are dangerously near being hooligans because, once again, such a behavior is far from being a normal. ( since I'm totally into psychology I got some small clue what I'm talking about here :P )

Quoting sellah:

In my opinion I clearly do NOT stress the point of free will. Free will is what our law is based. I totally don't get this whole talking about him switching the teams. If some progamers play for lets say EG and are totally fighting for EG and everything, including promoting running around like crazy spamming in irc how good the clans is etc. So one day he got a better offer let's say from team MYM ( do not sue me pls =( ) and decides to switch will everyone be mad at him? It would be the same thing because the progamer decided himself which team he would like to join

Funny how you try to insult me in your sophisticated way yet you can't understand what i pointed like 10 times, it was just a reponse to Grubby's stupid comparision and i simply said it's common thing in real-life to do what SK users were doing AFTER toad switched the team.
Why the hell on earth do you keep essaying on e-sports when i told you it's a far wider case and since e-sports fans are just as normal and ordinary people they also will be flaming people like toad.
Also, what world are you living in? People insulting others are dangerous and the most of all _abnormal_? Christ, and you dare to tell me you are a psychologist? Hate is just as normal feeling as any other and saying people that insult some others are dangerous, inhuman or whatever is so goddamn stupid.
What humanisty is being hurt by isn't hate but the extreme stupidity and toad is a perfect example, crying over a few harsh comments is plain stupid.
Seriously, your english seems decent and you really fail hard to understand what i read and your logic is so flawed that its funny.
Quoting Shival:

Okay, at least you got my point. Saying this at an esports site won't change a damn thing and to try to do something you'd have to reevalluate people's thoughts and feelings COMPLETELY.
I understand you both have interests in psychology, but reading how you think that a little bit of hate hurts this world makes me giggle. Especially if the hate has reasons behind, reasons that are perfectly reasonable in some people's books. Stupidity is the real issue, but i guess they dont tell you about that in your classes.
I dont think im going to keep on discussing with you, unless you, German buddy, get a clue about what im talking about.

Okay so I will try to show you my side of the story

Quoting sellah:

Funny how you try to insult me in your sophisticated way

First of all I do NOT intend to insult you in any way

Quoting sellah:

it's common thing in real-life to do what SK users were doing AFTER toad switched the team.

Dude even if it's common, it's wrong. It is quite childish just because one doesn't act like you want him too. I do not care who or what club does it, it just shows the lack maturity since we all are ( most of us I guess or quite near to it :P ) grown-ups we should know that this is behavior on the lowest level.

Quoting sellah:

Why the hell on earth do you keep essaying on e-sports when i told you it's a far wider case and since e-sports fans are just as normal and ordinary people they also will be flaming people like toad.

I don't talk about e-sports directly, I talk about this in general. In my opinion it is, as already stated before, totally wrong and narrow-minded to start such a witch-hunt just because someone is swatching clubs ( I think this is the more accurate characterization for MYM and/or SK ).

Quoting sellah:

Also, what world are you living in? People insulting others are dangerous and the most of all _abnormal_?

I guess you didn't quite get my statement so I will quote it again for you and describe it step by step
Quoting laska:

If you hate other people just because they switch the teams, this isn't fanboyism anymore this is just total fanaticism. You hate others just because they choose a different thing and do not share your opinion in one certain thing. This statement isn't about people being dangerous because they insult others, but people who just hate other individuals because of them joining a "rival" team. Hate is such a strong feeling that it is highly abnormal to occur just because you don't like him doing what he does. You may feel some sort of animosity but hate? Seriously this seems like a problem to me

Quoting sellah:

Christ, and you dare to tell me you are a psychologist?

I did not tell you I am a psychologist I just said
Quoting laska:

I'm totally into psychology
. This just states that I like psychology and I'm interested in it, not that I'm actually a psychologist or anything even near it.

Quoting sellah:

What humanisty is being hurt by isn't hate but the extreme stupidity

Only half true in my opinion. Since stupidity doesn't get you nowhere near committing a crime or doing anything wrong. You need hate to kill others not just plain stupidity. Therefore hate is far worse than stupidity since being stupid doesn't make you a bad person.

Quoting sellah:

toad is a perfect example, crying over a few harsh comments is plain stupid.

So what? Maybe he got a sensitive character and you just pick on him because of that? How totally narrow-minded is that? Because he acts in a different way than you do, you do NOT have the right to insult him in any way.

Quoting sellah:

Seriously, your english seems decent and you really fail hard to understand what i read and your logic is so flawed that its funny.

Thanks for your compliment. You may be right that I fail to understand you write but so do you. My logic may also be flawed since I'm not one of the most intelligent persons out there and I'm not even average when it comes to grades but I know that I can and will improve =)

Ok, guess you understood me right now.
Hate is such a strong feeling that it is highly abnormal to occur just because you don't like him doing what he does.

Just because? Isnt that why you hate someone? Because of actions he take? That looks like a perfectly okay reason to me, to hate, love, respect or not somebody because of what he does.
Only half true in my opinion. Since stupidity doesn't get you nowhere near committing a crime or doing anything wrong. You need hate to kill others not just plain stupidity. Therefore hate is far worse than stupidity since being stupid doesn't make you a bad person.

Being stupid itself doesnt make you a bad person indeed. But neither it does make you any good. To kill others not only you need to be full of hate, but dumb as well. I mean who the hell would commit his life just to kill a single person? Probably just a total idiot or an extreme fanatic of some movement, cult or whatever. And don't, just don't mention the case about people flaming toad, i assure you none of them cares about toad that much.
So what? Maybe he got a sensitive character and you just pick on him because of that? How totally narrow-minded is that? Because he acts in a different way than you do, you do NOT have the right to insult him in any way.

You've got it wrong. People don't bully toad because he is sensitive, they do it because of his attitude. Everyone flipflopping teams like him would get the very same insult. Also, toad made it on himself with his dumb spamcomments, what the hell did he expect posting the same crap over and over under the every match?
I'll stay with my opinion that stupidity is far worse than hate, not only stupid people might do similar things as haters, not exactly on purpose, but still, but also they'll hardly be able to do any useful things.

Don't think so. I think it's reasonable that you disrespect him but hating is, as I already stated, a bit of the top.

Quoting sellah:

Have to disagree here. If you hate someone you might act before thinking and actually killing this person. A lot of murders were committed this way so don't underestimate hate.

Quoting sellah:

You've got it wrong. People don't bully toad because he is sensitive, they do it because of his attitude.

You got me totally wrong there. I didn't intend to say that everybody is flaming him just because he's sensitive. I said that maybe the whole insulting was too much for him and therefore he might have changed from SK to MYM to try to avoid it.

I probably should leave this discussion to lask, but I just want to reaffirm that hate is an abnormal feeling to have for a situation such as this.

You might hate rapists, murderers, etc. But to hate someone just because they do something different as you do is highly abnormal. And atleast I can say I'm studying psychology.

Might I also add that you just contradicted yourself in this part?

Quoting sellah:

I'll stay with my opinion that stupidity is far worse than hate, not only stupid people might do similar things as haters, not exactly on purpose, but still, but also they'll hardly be able to do any useful things.

How is stupidity worse than hate, while you just said they probably do not kill on purpose, but with hate you do. You even say that stupid people MIGHT do something similar as haters, but you are CERTAIN haters do such things.
Moreover, stupid people can do just as much as smart people. For you don't have to be smart to do certain sports or certain jobs such as an artist, which requires creativity mostly. Their talents are just in a different area than smart people.

"1. People have different ways of doing different things, some can be intelligent some just plain stupid. Similar ways have been used in history to create great empires. Doesn't take anything away from the tactic.

Not. It may be my opinion that the lack of arguments and the resulting insult shows the low IQ but if you are an intelligent person you discuss things since this is what you were taught in school and it's the way your work/life goes.

"you may not join this and this team just because you are in this team" is a general opinion

What is a conversation all about? It's about persuading the other side or improving your point while weakening the other one. Therefore I consider a person intelligent if he/she talks about some issue instead of having his opinion without changing it no matter how much you argue with him. Also by only replying to my previous post you are actually talking about "things" :P
(10 months ago)  #172 iLLeR

What I was trying to say is that rather everything is "just an opinion" and there is nothing that defines those opinions as our views on right and wrong are also opinions. Always figure out the bigger picture, our views on things only hold us back. It is like being stuck somewhere, after a while it gets kinda comfy and you want to stay there.

This time I chose to talk about "things", maybe some other time I don't. Which is usually the better option.

I was waiting for that answer. It's no opinion of lask, well it is, but it's pretty much the right answer to this question. If we were to solve all problems by insults where would we be at this moment?

Hi everyone, i'm an old friend of PJ we were in highschool together and it's a really good friend, we talk about the SK community and their hostility for him. I think all this stupid people who judged him so hardly don't imagine what is the feeling you got when you get connected and see all these insults, and that's his primary reason of his departure, and then these same persons call him "treator" LOOOL.....
Judging someone behind the screen is easy, let's go down to the real life poor boys, imagine a second that all your choice of support someone become public and everyone judge you for that, it's incredible we're in democracy, he do what he want these people don't have nothing to say, rather than spending time to insult him, do something in your life, you got some reason to be jealous, PJ begin with nothing, and with such humility he done something in eSport, because in freestyle skiing that was not longer possible, and for me that's something really powerful that most of people can't do. Think a moment about that before insult him, dummies....

Excuse me for my english ^^ i'm not practicing enough xD

[edit] I was looking at JuneWoo's guestbook... and i saw that
