Great article, and as an American, I can completely agree with everything you say. I belong to the middle-class (what you call half-rich), and I have a great chance to make a scholarship/can pay my own education. I find it sickening though, to see so many poor people not even try in school, because they won't be able to afford college anyways. When I lived in the Northern states, there were few African-Americans (at least where I lived), and was naive to the racism that occurs. However, when I moved down south, where the African-American population is great, I could indeed see the racism. It's very sad, and does affect students whose race is different. From experience, as an American of Hispanic decent, I can feel the racism, but it nowhere compares to the treatment and views of the African-Americans. Most people treat me as if I am Caucasian, even though I am only 1/2 white. It's sad, but what you have said is very true.

The problems you bring up in the text are very real, however, I feel as if you make too many assumptions and generalize too much.
The content and the underlying thoughts are good, but you're article needs some fine-tuning in terms of grammar and a short summarizing ending would do good. Last edited by icyF at 10.04.2008, 11:29

Poor students have many chances to go to school.
Low income families can go to school for a much lower price than others. You can join the military, you can work hard and get a scholarship for good grades, you can save up money with a job, etc etc. Every person has the ability to persue an education, it just depends how much you're willing to work for it. The drugs issue is important because it deals with racism as well. All drugs should be legalized due to health, economic, and philosophic reasons. But on topic, it is tearing the black community and inner cities apart. Blacks are 14% of USA, but make up 44% of the prisons, even though there are more white stoners, than black stoners. The judicial system is racist and will prosecute blacks more than whites. In conclusion, everyone can go to school and legalize recreational drugs. Last edited by LsdPsychosis at 17.04.2008, 18:40
