About WEG

The World eSports Games (the WEG), held quarterly, comprise an international league of professional and elite amateur electronic game players. WEG's August 2004 "China-Korea National Match" was heralded by the Chinese press as "the most successful tournament in the history of China ".

In 2005, WEG began operating as a year-round league featuring top gamers and teams from Asia, Europe, and the Americans. Currently, the WEG features two official PC games: Blizzard Entertainment's WarCraft III™: Frozen Throne™ and Valve Corporation's Counter-Strike™.

World eSports Games, Inc., founded in 2004, is an eSports event, league, and content management group. Founder and CEO Paul Chung has been involved in eSports management and broadcasting since 1999, when he led the first-ever project to televise and professionalize computer gaming tournaments.
After three months, Chung's tournament programs had already set a record as the highest-rated program in the history of Korean cable television. Headquartered in Seoul, World eSports Games' global presence extends to Los Angeles, Hamburg, and Beijing.

The World eSports Games started out as an invite tournament but in Season III that has changed. Instead of being invited to stay and live i Korea for about 2 month the players had to prove themselves worthy by going through an qualification.
12 players were to be found for the WEG Season III which means that 10 players were needed since last times winner Spirit Moon and runner-up GoStop was already qualified.  Europe were granted 4 spots, the  U.S were given 1 spot, in  Korea 2 spots were available and lastly  China was allowed to send 3 players to WEG.

All the players are divided into 3 groups with the winner and runner-up proceeding to the 2nd. group stage. The players who finished 3rd is to play against each other in some so called Wildcard matches. Here it will be decided which 2 players who are to book their place further in the tournament.
The 2nd. group stage consist of 2 groups with 4 players in each. The top 2 from both groups will advance to the semi-finals with the winner going to the Grand Final while the losers will face each other in a 3rd. place match.
