Made in Brazil played two amazing tournaments at the Extreme Masters Los Angeles and Montreal, where they were close to winning the tournament. With extraordinary play, they managed to reach the finals in both tournaments. But now, after they have been knocked out fast in Dubai and having missed out the WEM in China, the Brazilian team is back to take away all the doubts at the World Cyber Games 2008 in Cologne, Germany!
myMYM.com had a little chat with one of Brazil's finest,
Lincoln "fnx" Lau. He talked with myMYM|MilsoN about his family, CS:Source, Made in Brazil and, of course, the upcomming World Cyber Games.
Hi fnx, how are you?
I'm fine, thanks for asking.
For the people who don't know you, please give a little introduction about yourself.
Hi, my name is Lincoln "fnx" Lau, I'm 18 years old and I'm from Sao Paulo, Brazil. I'm playing for MiBR and I like to play football too.
Well Lincoln, many people consider you as one of the best players in the world. As a kid, did you ever dreamed of being a professional gamer?
For me, this game is just fun. But it's also my job, and I can make money with playing the game. I always wished to be the best gamer!
What does your family think about your "status" as a professional gamer?
Well, like I said, playing Counter-Strike is my job, and my family knows that it is very important for me, so they will keep on supporting me, no matter what happens. I'm also playing for my national team, so they know I'll have to keep performing :)
Do they like the fact that you are always travelling around the globe, day in day out? Do you get the chance to spend some time with them?
They don't like it that I'm always away from them. But they understand me and they always support me! Thats why I love them so much. But on the other hand, travelling so much gives me the opportunity to see some interesting places!
You mentioned you like football. Did you play football when you were a kid?
Yes, in front of my house, with my best friends, but not for a professional club. I'm still a kid right now, I'm only 18 years old. But I like to think mature!
Lets talk about CS. You've played with mibr some excellent tournaments, you were close to winning EM LA and Montreal. What are your expectations for WCG ?
We're expecting a place in the top3... Every tournament we're playing, we're playing for the 1st place. But it's gonna be hard, there are many good teams this year in Germany. It's a tied contest, you know, every year! We practiced alot last weeks, so we have lots of confidence!
After those great tournaments, you got knocked out really fast at Dubai, what happened there?
I can't answer this question without the opinion of my team mates. But if you ask me... I didn't like the weather at all! No, I think we didn't practice enough before that event or maybe, at that moment, the enemy teams were better than ever.
MiBR has missed WEM in China. Did that give the team more time to work towards WCG ? Or was it a relaxation period during WEM ?
We spend all our free time practicing for big tournaments. For every event, we make sure we have a decent preperation. Our time to relax is when we're playing.
Speaking of your teammates. Can you tell us a little bit about them?
Raphael (cogu) its the aimer of the team, an extreme player with a very good sense of conservation and maybe the best aimer in Brazil!
Renato (nak) its the AWP'er of the team, the most natural player with a very good reflex management. It's a pleasure to watch him play. When he is in one of his "good days", he can win matches all by himself and make his position unbreakable.
bit and btt are the tactical minds behind the team. They come up with new strats and tell us what to do better.
And me ... I help the team as much as possible, but you have to ask my teammates about my strenghts and weaknesses :).
Almost a year ago, Cogu, Nak, Chucky and Bruno went playing CS:Source for CGS's Rio Sinistro and now they are back. Did you ever considered to switch to Source? Why or why not?
The only reason why they came back is that the opponents were too weak for them.
I never considered switching to Source. But I do think that CS 1.6 will be dead soon and all teams will switch to Source.
So, I assume you will quit CS when all the teams switch over to Source? But if that doesn't happen, for how long are you planning to keep playing CS professionally ?
MiBR will switch to Source if it's necessary. If it will be with me or without me, that's something to think about later.
Recently, the Brazilian government banned CS1.6 in Brazil. How is the situation there at this moment ?
Personally, I don't really care. This fact doesn't disturb me at all. I don't know how my teammates think about this, but MiBR is a great team and has a fantastic management and nobody will stop us from doing our job, not even the Brazilian government.
Ok, last question. What is your top3 prediction for the WCG 08 ?
The best will win, but I hope we, MiBR, end up on top :)
Do you have any shoutouts you want to make?
I want to thank my family, our fans in the entire world, our good management, and our sponsors! And special thanks goes to my brother and my best friend, ruuin!
