MBCGame StarLeague 2008 *Finals*
MBCGame StarLeague (MSL) is one of the premier StarCraft leagues in South Korea. MBC is the primary sponsor of the league, along with Club Day Online this time. MBCGame is a gigantic television enterprise which is very supportive of the eSport and actually owns a pro-gaming team.
The MSL Survivor Tournament is the first stage of the competition. It is the qualifying tournament for the MSL proper. There are 48 qualifiers all in all to participate in the Survivor Tournament. It will be cut into half, meaning 24 qualified gamers will advance to the next round.
ODT Format:
- Four players are set to play every scheduled day. (a vs b) (c vs d) - 4 maps will be used from the previous MSL. - After the first match, players will be set according to the result: winner's bracket and loser's bracket and so on, depending on the outcome. For further match: Winner vs Loser. - Players should get two wins in order to advance to the next round. |
After the qualification round, the top 8 players from the previous MSL are added in the group which are ranked according to their performance. We now have a total of 32 players. (24 survivors + 8 seeded players) and brackets will be decided on such manner.
Steal Draft:
- 8 seeded players will be ranked and be set from Group A unto Group H. - The survivors will also be arranged depending on their past MSL records. (9th-32th) - 9th to 16th survivors will be placed with the same group with the seeded players in a reverse arrangement. (1st seeded player will be joined by 16th survivor on Group A and so on... until Group H.) - 17th unto the 32nd placers are going to choose what group do they want to be belong and who they want to play with. - After matches are settled: 9th to 32nd survivors are allowed with three options: A = Exchange himself with another player, B = Exchange opponent with another player, or C = Pass - Seededs has an option as well: A = Exchange a player in their group with another player, B = Exchange any two other players with each other, or C = Pass |
After this whole process and the settled matches in ODT format, 16 players will be left and they're going to play in the round of 16. The groupings will be the same, winners have a previledge to "thumbs down" a particular map and eliminate it, replacing it with one of their choice from the map pool. The map rule is implied beyond the round of 16, but it means the thumbed down map won’t be repeated for the 1st and 5th set.
The format has an additional new stipulation, it will be decided in a best-of-three, similar with round of 8 and semi-finals. But Finals will be played in a best-of-5 series.
