First Matches of the Bacchus 2008 OSL

OSL

Warning! There will be spoilers because this is a game report!

One of the most anticipated matches of the Korea, South Bacchus OnGameNet StarLeague (OSL) is none other than the match between the OSL defending champion Jaedong vs sAviOr. There are also other exciting matches such as Bisu vs XellOs, Rumble vs FlaSh, etc. Since it’s a new season of OSL there are also new maps and they are Troy and Demon’s Forest. Will the Maestro bounce back after his losses and become the dominating Zerg player as he once was? Or will Jaedong overthrow sAviOr for a seat on the throne of the Zerg? Can XellOs live up to his nickname The Perfect Terran? Will Bisu’s OSL curse end here or will he lose once again in OSL?

Game 1 - Lee Jae Dong (Jaedong) vs Ma Jae Yoon (sAviOr) – Map: Blue Storm

The game starts off with Zerg sAvior spawning at the 7 position and Jaedong at the 1 position. Both players start off with similar builds such as a Spawning Pool and a geyser after. After that they start to expand at the closes expansion. Zerg Jaedong was the first to produce zerglings of 6 while sAvior only produced 4. Jaedong quickly rushes into sAviOr’s expansion, but sAviOr notices it and sends his zerglings to protect it. Due to sAviOr’s small amount of zerglings he was forced to back off a little. Jaedong decides to attack the hatchery while sAviOr is away. Both players run back and forth with their zerglings and they are both just waiting for each other’s first attack. The first attack was started by sAviOr where he lost the battle and had only about 4 zerglings while Jaedong still has 6. At this moment, sAviOr is in bad shape because Jaedong keeps sending more zerglings every time sAviOr kills one of Jaedong’s. Both players then start to build a Zerg Spire while just waiting for the next attack. sAviOr decides to take the offensive and starts to advance towards Jaedong’s expansion. sAviOr manages to get inside the expansion, but Jaedong came from behind to block off sAviOr’s escape. Jaedong decides to go and attack sAviOr’s base while sAviOr attacks his. sAviOr spawns mutalisks to defend his base from the enemy. Jaedong’s zerglings attacked a lot of sAviOr’s drones and soon destroyed sAviOr’s Hive and causes sAviOr to type GG.

Jaedong wins

Game 2 - Yoon Jong Min (Rumble) vs Lee Young Ho (FlaSh) – Map: Troy

Terran FlaSh spawns at the 10 position while Zerg Rumble spawns at the 7 position. FlaSh constructs 2 barracks while Rumble builds a hatchery at his expansion. Once Rumble finish spawning his zerglings he moves them to FlaSh’s base, but FlaSh has about 6 marines blocking off the entrance to his base. Rumble sees the marines and backs off while FlaSh moves out and starts to explore the map with his marines and medics. FlaSh moves his troops to Rumble’s expansion and waits outside his base. Rumble sets up 3 sunken colonies for defense. Since FlaSh has some troops waiting outside of Rumble’s expansion he decides to attack when he brought enough reinforcements. At this point there are 6 sunken colonies set up, but FlaSh decides to attack anyways. FlaSh destryots 4 sunken colonies and he decides to fall back since he lost a lot of troops during the attack. Rumble then spawns about 6 mutalisks and attacks FlaSh’s troops outside of his base. Now that he has mutalisks he decides to harass FlaSh’s scvs at an expansion. Rumble retreats from his attack when FlaSh’s troops came to defend the expansion. Rumble then upgraded his mutalisks to guardians, but FlaSh didn’t care at all since he goes in Rambo and takes out Rumble’s drones working there and rushes into Rumble’s main base. Rumble grows desperate and sends his air force of mutalisks and guardians to FlaSh’s expansion. To counter this, FlaSh has built an air force of his own that consisted of wraiths. This led to Rumble admitting defeat because FlaSh has already crippled his economy and didn’t have enough units to fight back.

FlaSh wins

Game 3 - Kim Taek Yong (Bisu) vs Seo Ji Hoon (XellOs) – Map: Katrina

Terran XellOs spawns in the 6 position while Protoss Bisu spawns in the 12 position. Bisu goes with dragoons and their upgraded range upgrade with a robotics facility. While XellOs goes with the standard build against Protoss, which is producing mech units such as tanks, vultures, etc. Bisu pumps out 2 dragoons and makes his way to XellOs’ base. XellOs has about 5 marines, 1 tank, and 1 vulture to defend his base. Bisu sees that he is outnumbered and falls back to his base without risking the death of his dragoons. XellOs sends 5 vultures to Bisu’s base to try to pick off his probes. XellOs’ attack failed due to Bisu’s 2 gateways providing a small narrow passage through his base. Bisu also had a reaver defending his nexus. Later on, Bisu starts producing carriers since XellOs did not have any anti-air units yet. XellOs pushes to Bisu’s base only to be ambushed by 4 carriers and a group of dragoons. Bisu’s carrier fleet makes their way to one of XellOs’ expansion and start attacking the scvs. XellOs didn’t have enough goliaths to defend and Bisu kept sending more dragoons and this cause XellOs to surrender.

Bisu wins

Game 4 - Kim Dong Kun (FrOzean) vs Park Myung Soo (YellOw[ArnC]) – Map: Demon’s Forest

The game starts off with Zerg YellOw spawning at the 7 position and Terran FrOzean at the 10 position. FrOzean builds his barracks near the ramp that leads into his base that is guarded by 7 marines while YellOw is scouting the map. At this point both players are playing it safe until YellOw spawned some mutalisks and starts to harass FrOzean’s base. YellOw backs off when FrOzean brought his marines to attack. Soon a battle commences out in the open fields with marines, medics, lurkers, etc. The fiery battle resulted in heavy losses from each side with blood all over the grass. YellOw realizes that FrOzean has more units than him and decides to harass the Terran base again. FrOzean’s base didn’t have a lot of turrets like last time, which gave YellOw enough time to pick off the scvs without losing too many mutalisks. FrOzean launches an attack at the bottom right where one of YellOw’s expansions is. YellOw sends his group of lurkers to hold off the attack while he waits for his mutalisks to come. FrOzean manages to kill the hatchery and retreated right after before losing too many troops. At this time, FrOzean is way ahead in terms of army size and YellOw tries his best to build more expansions, but FrOzean has scouts all over the map. YellOw’s economy is already crippled from the destruction of his bottom right expansion where FrOzean attacked earlier. YellOw calls it GG because he could defend his base because FrOzean put the pressure on him with constant attacks.

FrOzean wins
