Last Tuesday Team
fnatic surprised their opponent
MYM Dreamteam with a perfect seeding and an outstanding perfomance of each of their players - 4:0 was the result in the end and the first place in the WC3L ranking. Even if their last opponent mTw seem to be in best shape, fnatic looks forward to the direct qualification for the offline finals.
General Manager
Elroy 'Noname' Pinto speaks to myMYM.com for an interview regarding their chances and goals in the WC3L.
Hello Elroy. How do u feel about the win over MYM?
Pretty good, the guys were really motivated especially since everyone talks about fnatic not being able to take on the best teams and we didn't do anything to prove them wrong so far. It was a well earned victory right from lineups right down to the last map.
Before the match started, how did you guys handle the seedings for the line-up since fnatic had a really good line-up?
Well, to be honest counter lineups haven't been our strongest point so far if you see our seedings against SK or GG, we didn't do our homework so well and didn't ponder about lineups as much as we did against MYM. This clanwar was probably one of the biggest of my entire career and I was thinking "if we lose because of the seedings I'll just go straight offline and not come online for a day". We had a general chain of thought and everyone who normally gets a say in lineups did have their say and ultimately it was a really risky lineup if you go and see the seedings. It was a chance but as long as you try to grasp all the factors that affect that "chance" you cannot falter.
If we look at the current ranking of WC3L it looks quite close for WE and Fnatic to qualify directly for the playoffs. MYM, mTw and SK are close to eachother with points aswell. Can you perdict the rankings after playday 11?
Haha, not at all, yesterday was a good day for us when we play vs mTw maybe it might not be? Regardless I feel that nGize and Alternate will be worthy opponents to WE and SK on the final playday. For sure I can say that it won't be easy but we have to believe in ourselves and take our chances. I really can't predict since this season is so tight, one slip up and it can go either way. To add to the drama playday 11 has been extended so that means a more long drawn out conclusion. However we believe to not rely on others performances and we'd rather focus 100% on our clanwar than go cheering for other teams.
Yes, it is hard to predict the rankings of playday 11. However are you satisfied with the ranking of fnatic looking back at the start of the season till now?
we could always look back and say "hey shit we shouldn't have done that" but there's no point to mull over what's happened we lost some games in lineups some to better players and some to lesser players. The only thing to do is move ahead. It's been good so far we had some momentum going in against MYM so let's keep the ball rolling till the end of the season.
I think all teams have goals. Has fnatic allready reached its goal or is the goal to eventually win WC3L?
We've always aimed for number 1, there's no point in settling for less right? We're aware of the competition and how strong SK/MYM/WE are, but I think we proved last evening that it's possible. The good thing is we know our strengths and weakness and I think if a team can foster a really strong team spirit then that's a force to be reckoned with. I guess many people even for online competitions seem to underestimate team spirit and what it can do for a team, but maybe that's just my way of thinking.
Could you descripe each fnatic player from your point of view?
Shy: One of the best team-captains I've worked with, he's really the kind of guy one wants to have on his team. He's got a lot of flak recently for failing in many tournaments but I know he will just bounce back from it all. He's a very quiet guy and doesn't talk much so it was a little difficult getting to know him.
FoCuS: He's really been reliable for us this season, sure sometimes he seems to have problems than the other top Orc's in Korea but he almost always gives his 100% in any game he competes in be it 2v2 or 1v1. He's more open than Shy and is easy going but he can also be tempermental at times.
Space: I don't know him personally so well since he doesn't talk any english aside from greetings but recently we've learnt to work around that minor problem. He's had a tough time this season not being able to finish off some bo3's with a victory but he's been adjusting to the new gear from SteelSeries and that's cost him a few games. Things seem to be back on track now, so looking forward to his matches in every league.
MinHyuk: A really nice guy, plays really nicely and personally I think he has a lot of talent to grow, just needs a bit more time to mature as a player. He has a good mindset for a player and sometimes that can give him the edge over his opponents. He's benefitted the most from living in China and I believe he's done really well this season and that just helps his confidence to grow.
Kei: He's not so much in operation as he's been busy with school and has some important exams in November so he's not so active, we've spoken a bit and personally I felt that from Min and Kei, Kei had the more talent and game knowledge to compete on an international level but we'll just have to wait for him to finish school and get the practice in and the right mindset in place.
YangE: He's inactive as of now since he has to prepare to go for the army soon, he was a friendly guy from what little interactions we had and I'd like to say that he would be really good in SC because I've seen him play and his style is nothing like that of an average WC3 player... Maybe that's why he wasn't so successful.
Either way they are all integral parts of the team, and I have no favorite to pick from them, their all invaluable in their own way.
I would like to thank you for this interview, any final words?
Thanks for the interview
An1mA and to anyone who believes in us, thank you we won't let you down.
