Insider info

Oftentimes the players have a little extra insight into what happens in a match. So, we caught up with both teams after the game to get an inside opinion.

Indonesia Xcn-Melen had this to share about the match:

Knowing that SK is a particularly strong opponent, did you try anything different for this match? Or did you just play your game?

Melen: We just played our game like usual. Nothing special to prepare for this match. We had to try our best that game but SK had very good gameplay. We learned much from them.

Orchid on DK is probably not considered "standard". Was there a particular use you had in mind for it this game or do you just prefer this variant build?

Melen: The item build for DK is a new thing that Lakuci wanted to try. Trying something new does not always work. But we will never know if we do not try it. =)

What can you learn from a tough loss like this?

Melen: We learn much from every game we play, lose or win. We learn that item builds depend on the situation each game. We will try to qualify for PDL playoffs and take revenge on SK hahaha...

We also spoke with Sweden SK.Loda about his team's close brush with defeat, and how they felt the picks influenced the game:

At any point in this game, were you worried that you were going to lose?

Loda: In game one I wasn't afraid at all of a loss, I was sure that our picks were perfect for the kind of game we wanted to play, and when I saw that XcN answered my taunting by picking Meepo I felt that nothing could stop us this game!

When it comes to the second game I was a bit scared in the beginning. The early early lane phase went decent for me, but then I started dying over and over again while the other players on the team played ok but not perfect...but as the game went on and on I felt that Tito and Tompa could win versus XcN's lategame power with the help of Amplify Damage. I wasn't afraid that we would lose midgame, but of course I was a bit nervous anyways. ^^

Were you satisfied with how the Slardar pick played out?

Loda: Hm, I was pretty satisfied with how the Slardar pick played out. ^^ I didn't play that well, but I was still able to get the items that would make me do some stuff during the game, and with the help of SF and PotM I felt that we should be able to bring their carry heroes down. The BKBs + Kraken from XcN pissed me off, but it all ended up well anyways. :D

This was a win for you guys, but it was certainly a close game. Is there anything you can learn from this?

Loda: Well what I think we can both learn from the games is that picks are really important when you play versus one of the top teams in the world! What works one time as a surprise won't be sure to work another time! The Meepo pick ain't that viable when it comes up versus a strong AOE strat, and a hero like Slardar may work in the whole but maybe not that well in the laning phase, etc.
