The Great Rivalry

Finally, I get to the central debate missing from this WC3L final: Europe versus Asia. There are only a handful of European players present in the finals this year, and no team with more than 2 Europeans on it. Even if BET or Wicked had entered the final, this would have added few others.

However, there is hope for non-Asians next season in WC3L. Gravitas Gaming is already qualified for next season strong with players such as Ukraine Nightelves HoT, Russian Fede- Human Xyligan, Russian Fede- Orc Rob, and Finland Undead Elfi. Attax will likely be strong again even with the departure of United Kingd- Human Demuslim, because of their strong players Germany Undead Xlord, Germany Orc Dark and Germany HumanYaws, and either PGS or Delta will likely qualify giving way to not only Europeans but possibly Americans and Canadians such as Canada Undead apm, United State- Nightelves Longwalk, and United State- Random Axslav.

This always makes for great fan debate. Who are the best European players of each race? Who are the best Chinese / Korean players of each race? Is Xlord really better than Susiria? Is Grubby better than Lyn? Can HoT ever measure up to Moon or Soju? We like talking about these things, they are fascinating because of the culture element of this game. People are different in the Americas and Europe and Korean and China, the lifestyle and therefore training style and playstyle is all different. Any gamer semi-pro and above can recognize the difference between European and Korean playstyle. Just ask anyone who played Finland Nightelves Satiini 3 seasons ago when he was nominated for MVP and the playstyle he employed seeming very much Korean even though he hails from Finland.

I hope that this rivalry of Europe and Asia is revived soon, because its always a compelling part of WC3L and any team tournament. For now though, I wish all players, Korean, Chinese and European to have great games and great fun, and I hope the fans have the same.
