First of all let’s start with the obligatory introduction. Who are you and what are your interests?
TaZ: Hi there, My name is Wiktor 'TaZ' Wojtas, I'm a 21 year old student of law, and I live in Warsaw, Poland! I like to do a lot of things, but I think that the most enjoyable ones are playing counter-strike, meeting with my friends, playing some sports like basketball or squash, and maybe visiting the gym from time to time.. and many more.
LUq: Hi my name is Lukas Wnek, I'm a 23 years old guy living in Warsaw, the capital of Poland. I've been playing Counter-Strike for about 8 years.
I play sports like krav-maga and like to meet with my friends :D, but mostly I like playing CS a lot!!!
What were the first steps in beginning your Counter-Strike career? How did you come into/get familiar with the game?
TaZ: Well it all started when a few of my friends took me to an i-cafe and showed me this new badass game that turned out to be Counter-Strike. I knew from the start that I wanted to compete with the best players out there.
LUq: From 8 to 9 years ago the polish internet was pretty sucky, most of the "gamers" would play from i-cafe's. I was meeting my friends there and played half-life DM and opposing force, then one day I came and saw Counter-Strike's first beta! :D It was like magic, and I started to play more and more, then i joined my first team, and from there my first tournament and the team succeeded at the event, the squad was called =GryNet=.
How has your career in professional gaming affected your life outside of e-sports?
TaZ: My e-sport career has affected my life in a huge way. I had to change a lot in my normal life just to be able to play as much as I should. There are always good and bad things that come from it, one good thing is that I can live on my own; well I'm living with my parents but I pay for a few things on my own like my internet connection. and I do have some money to spend on stuff which I want. I also pay for my school so I really can't regret my decision with e-sports. As for the bad things, well obviously my school and social life suffered :). But still it's not so bad!
Pentragram, now called PGS.PokerStrategy, was Poland’s showpiece team. Their Counter-Strike division became popular all over the globe in no time, however, PGS was the only local team with great success featuring an export highlight like its CS team on an International level. What teams were you a part of before, and could you tell us more about your clan history?
TaZ: As for my first steps it was a pretty easy road. I was only in 3 teams. So :P Not much to talk about; first it was some local team which was playing from an i-cafe, where I played with my friends. After that I started to play in CGL.red with LUq and some other guys, and after a lot of changes and talks we created team-conneXion (early version of todays MYM). What I need to mention is that I've met a lot of great people during all those years, and I want to greet them!
LUq: I Started from a team called =GryNet=, our leader was a crazy guy called ELvis666 who owned an i-cafe and let us play 24/7 CS for free. My next big step was a tournament called PG Challenge in Czech. That was really an incredible expirience to see such a big BYOC event with so many players and some of the best teams from back then, like ]I[ or Ocrana. I bet a lot of Czech players remember ELvis666 since he was screaming so loudly :D. After that nothing was the same, we had a strong dominance over the Polish scene, and I was winning nearly everything there with my teams starting from SpeHerE and ending at Arcy. Then another big team came up where Neo played. After some hard games and a lack of motivation from some players we decided to merge both teams and make the foundations of PGS.
Why did you choose to leave PGS and join MYM? And what makes the stay at MYM comfortable?
TaZ: Well I think that there were some issues between us and the management which we couldn't resolve, so we decided that the best thing for both sides was to go our separate ways. Well of course MYM is a well known organisation, so we were very happy when we heard that they were interested in signing us. We know that now we have the best possible conditions, and we can focus 100% on our game.
LUq: I don't want to take these inside things out in the open, but we built that team and we made it famous with our hard work but the situation changed over time since 2006, and we started to be normal workers instead of builders. We couldn't attend lans that we wanted to or go for as many bootcamps as we could, and many people in the gaming world noticed that we attended mostly only invite tournaments which were paid for by their sponsors like WCG, ESWC, EM, and ECG. We only attended two tournaments and two bootcamps in last year that PGS paid for, which was a big reason why we decided to quit.
We decided to join MYM because it's one of the biggest and best organisations in the world, knowing that and having such a big backup of so many great people and capabilities from that team we can just focus on our game which is very important for us.
What do you expect from MYM and what do they expect from you?
TaZ: Hehe, well obviously we expect nice, friendly and professional cooperation between both sides :). We want to travel, play and win as many tournaments as possible, and there's no other target for us. I think that they expect us to perform up to a standard that we established over the years.
LUq: We expect that MYM let us focus on our game and help us get to an even higher level with their support.
They expect from us to be the best for what we do - Gaming at the highest level :)).
What's your best memory from being in PGS?
TaZ: There are a lot of nice memories during our stay in PGS, we always had a lot of fun during all of the tournaments, but I think that the best memory for me is winning World Cyber Games in Monza 2006. That was a great feeling. Also the ESWC and Extreme Masters events were amazing. It's really hard to choose only one!
LUq: The moment of beating NiP in WCG after losing the first map, especially the last round on train where we were left with 4 vs 1, it was spawn hiding in the bombesite wagon, and we couldn't hit him for a few seconds because everyone of us was thinking of what we would achieve after that 1 kill :).
The second best would be winning ESWC, after that I felt like we gave 1.6 more life, it was a great show for us players and all of the fans out there. One of the best moments in my life : ).
What's your worst?
TaZ: I think that ESWC 2006. I made some stupid mistakes which I will remember for a long time, if not forever :).
LUq: Every time I lose a game :P.
You've been in PGS for a very long time, and you have played a lot of matches under their tag. Which match is your best memory?
TaZ: The match against Fnatic, bo3 at ESWC 2007, NiP, bo3 at WCG 2006 and NoA, bo3 at ESWC 2007 finals which had such a huge audience!? More than 5000 people were watching me live? Cheering and screaming after each round? For me Counter-Strike is a sport.
LUq: The game versus NiP at WCG 2006 finals.
Which match is your worst memory?
TaZ: The match versus Lunatic Hai at ESWC 2006 :). I messed up that one round. :P
LUq: The SHG finals against team mibr.
Is there any reason why the team's performance has come down a little bit recently.
TaZ: Our performance? Well I think that there's a lot of reasons, but we need to forget the past and focus on the present. Now, all we need to do is focus on game, all of the other things won't get us distracted!
LUq: Lack of participation in tournaments and bootcamps.
There are many people wondering about your nicknames. Can you tell us the story behind your nicknames?
TaZ: Hmm well when I was 14, I went to some i-cafe to play Quake2 (my first time in the internet cafe!) and I needed some COOL nickname, so I chose the crazy Tasmanian Devil from Looney Tunes. Yeah I know it was a great idea :D.
LUq: My Name is Lukas so it won't be a great and long story for my nickname, and I just wrote LUq! :>
How do you prepare yourselves for events/matches?
TaZ: I try to focus only on the game, so no other thoughts distract me, only Counter-Strike stuff. Music helps a lot.
LUq: Well if we have the chance to bootcamp we would take it, it's the best way to train, and we did it before WCG and ESWC, and it helped a lot. If we can't go to a bootcamp we play everyday 18-24/01. Plus all of us are playing deathmatch outside of training.
How does it feel to be a part of MYM; dealing with the devil?
TaZ: Haha, well it feels amazing :). We were really looking forward to dealing with the devil! Now we will see what our connected powers can do!
LUq: Well it's a great feeling to be a part of such a team, but it comes with a lot of pressure too.
What would you say has been the highlight of your career so far?
TaZ: Winning WCG 2006, ESWC 2007 and Extreme Masters 2007 for sure! Joining MYM is nice too! :]
LUq: WCG 2006 Finals.
No doubt you've attended many large e-sport events, such as the ESWC 2007 in Paris, France a few months ago. Which tournament or event were you most excited to be a part of? Which ones stands out to you from your professional gaming career?
TaZ: I must say that ESWC 2007 was the biggest tournament I've ever attended. So many people were watching the finals, and it was AMAZING!
LUq: Besides WCG and ESWC, I love events in Germany put together by the ESL crew - they are always professional :)! Also the ECG tournaments are good.
What fascinates you in Gaming?
TaZ: I really like the competition, and the feeling after you win or lose - It's something you won't forget :)
LUq: The opportunity to compete with the best, travel the world and meet new people.
Introduce your team mates with a few words each.
TaZ: Loord - He's a really nice guy, and he always has a lot of good ideas in the game, and he's a very solid 1onX player, he's playing very smart and most of the time it's paying off :).
Neo - He just destroys all the opposition in his way, when he's on fire (and that's almost always :D) there's no player who can stop him. Also a very nice guy with a big sense of humour. :)
LUq - Our team screamer :D, He's like a spirit for a team, his dedication and passion for this game is something what all of us should respect and learn from. It's always good to have a great AWP player on your side also :).
Kuben - Very nice and funny person, always smiling and very dedicated to what he's doing. He knows a lot of tricks which is helping him a lot, always ready to help with leading in-game, great player.
LUq: Loord - Very good with tactics and a great rifleman, hes great on 1vs? situations. Sometimes a bit too sharp but we're used to it :)
Kuben - He's a good rifleman and a very good sniper.
TaZ - Our strat caller, he's very good with a AK and DGL
Neo - Executioner.
Thanks for taking time to answer these questions and good luck in MYM. Any last words or shoutouts?
TaZ: Thank You :). Well I would like to thank MYM for their trust in us! We won't disappoint ya! ;] Also I would like to thank all my friends for their support! - Ola, Milena, Gabi, Gosiex, Magda, Gosia, Adam, Ofca, Pawel, Kroni, Dudek, Zugu, Bob, Eber, Chris, Tomek, Kamil, Maslak, Puchatek, Larry, and Tiger! And everyone else I forgot to mention!!! Also I would like to greet all our fans and thank them for their support, I hope that we won't disappoint you anymore! Take care.
LUq: I would like to thank our fans and sponsors for supporting us so much.
