jerry speaks

Can you introduce yourself to the people out there who don't know anything about you?
My name is Kenneth Larsen. I'm 23 years old and I live in Copenhagen.

You have been active in the Danish Counter-Strike scene some years ago. How did you get involved in Counter-Strike? Who told you about the game, and what made you start playing it?
I played for the world best Quakeworld team before I started to play Counter-Strike. I lived together with a guy called niw that played for SoA many years ago. He thought that I should try CS, and after I did, I couldn't stop playing again.

What made you start to play the game?
It was the gameplay and the speed in the game. Plus that you had to play good with four of your teammates to get far in competitions.

You just said that you have to play good with your four team mates. You have been playing for SoA, which was, some years ago, the best team in Denmark. What was the secret about your success?
I think we were so good back in the days because we were staying together for like 3 years. And because of that, we knew each other very well ingame and also outside of the game.

How was it to be a part of a very famous team, with many fans? Did it motivate you more?
It's always nice that people appreciate what you do, but I don't think that you should only be motivated by that. You should like to spending time on what you are doing, else you are going to 'cheat' yourself in the end.

B!tch, former SoA player: I've had the pleasure to play Counter-Strike with Kenneth (jerry) in SoA, level and team9. In that time I've got to know Kenneth's good and bad sides.

Kenneth's best quality is that he can keep the focus on one target, which was taking part and winning competitions for him. He always wanted to win matches, instead of fearing to loose.

An example could be when we were playing WCG in Korea, where we in an eco as CT on cbble killed the whole opponent team, with just one man remaining in ours. That shows that, no matter how hard it is to win, he will always try to win and fight for it.

With that goal to be the winner, he can also be very angry. One time we had to wait like 10 minutes to play a PCW, when we were bootcaming in Stockholm, because Kenneth had to tell a clan on MSN that he would smack the whole clan when he comes home from Vegas, hehe. And then he also said, that they should bring their friends with them, else it would be too easy for him. I'm sure they only were discussing a little thing, but it was still funny to watch the discussion.

Kenneth is today still one of my good friends. He has a lot of qualitys, like being loyal to his friends, fun to hang around with, focussed and forward-acting. In all he's a good gamer with the heart at the right place.

Your team was, as I said before, the best team in Denmark at that time. Wasn't it a bit annoying that it only were you there who made the good results? I mean, that must have layed a huge pressure on your shoulders.
In the end of SoA it was very annoying that we had to defend that we haven't lost an official match against a Danish team in over one year. We played for not to loose instaid of playing to win. About the pressure thing thing, I wouldn't say that there was any pressure on our shoulders. We always did what we could do to play best, and if that wasn't good enough, then there wasn't so much we could do about it.

You were a part of SoA for a very long time, and in that time your team was the only team which really dominated in Denmark. What do you think were the reasons, that the other teams couldn't win against you? What did your team have, that they didn't? Except that you knew each other very well personal.
We were very dedicated in what we did back then (not that other teams wasnt). But we did everything which was CS related 100 %, no shortcuts, no weird things. Just pracc, pracc and a little bit more pracc.

Do you think a team in Denmark will ever dominate so much like your team did in the old days?
Already now the Danish teams are very good, but I have just started playing again, so I don't know so much about their results and playstyles yet. Of course there is always a team in the country there is the best. I like the intense fight abut to be the best in the country.

In your carrier in SoA, you have been playing so many matches. Was there any specific team that you feared, because you knew that both teams could win?
We had respect for many teams, because everyone could have 'the day' where everything is just going well for them. But it was always hard to play against SK (HeatoN, Potti, SpawN, fisker and ahl) in the old days, because we were also praccing a lot with and against them. They knew what we did, and we also knew what they did. Unfortually they were a bit better than us.

Let's say that you didn't quit SoA, and you were still together in a team. How far, do you think, would you have made today?
It's hard to say. If the players, mentality and the commitment would be the same, we would be top 3 in the world. But there are so many facts which are making it impossible. I choose to look forward instead of backward, and then hope that we can be one of the best again.

Why did you stop to play?
It was because of a lot of things. We have been playing together for a long time, and played a lot when we were teenagers. We felt that we all missed the real life, and wanted to try something else than just to play computer. It was a decision by all of us.

zarGoth, former SoA player: I know jerry for many years, we played on the same team for a long period. He is a very constant player that only has one goal: to win. He doesn't care about how hard it is to reach that goal - he just wants win, no matter how hard it would be. A good thing about him is that he always 'hates' his opponent team, and he gets really angry with them, and just wish that they would die as fast as possible.

The bad thing about him, is that he seems to be very arrogant :P .. There is no doubt about that he is one of the most dedicated - no matter what he's doing.

I've always seen him like a little tuff guy, who could bring down an entire army with his wise words within no time. When we were in the bus on our way home from CPL in Cannes, jerry and I almost got kicked out of the bus in the middle of Germany, because we almost had a fight with the driver, because we disagreed with him about the way he drove the bus. But if you know him, you know that hes a nice guy! (GO JERRY GO !!! :P:P).

I remember to a CPL in Berlin Convention Center where it was very funny. In the press area you could drink so much as you wanted to. And the Danish guy Lars from JubiiGames had a presscard, and we used it a little. After some time the bartenders that were at work started to ask "Are you from the press, or are you a Dane?" everytime one came up to the desk. Because of the free bar we were very drunk, and jerry and me were going out on the toilet, and pretented like we were stranded whales, and we were biting after peoples ankle when they came out there. (Lets not hope that there was videorecording out there :D)

Do you ever regret that you stopped to play?
Not at all. I have been doing a lot of things in the real life, and now I'm in a period where I'm going to chill andwhere I'm going out with the friends. :)

About two weeks ago it was official that you were back in the Danish Counter-Strike scene. What made you come back?
The feeling of beating all the other teams in the world. :)

What have you done since you quitted your carrier?
I have been in the military, school, workd and else been going out with my friends. :)

The military? How was it to be there? And what have you been working with?
It was very nice. But it was there before the new rules came up, so I was spending more time there than people today do. And I have been working as a receptionist on a hotel, and made some other things. :)

What about now? What are you doing?
I would say that my day looks normal. I work for eight ours each day, home and sleep a little bit, and then wake up and play some Counter-Strike.

To return to the subject, you are back in the scene again. You haven't been active for some years now. What do you think about the Danish Counter-Strike scene now? Is it still childish? Tell us your opinion.
Hehe yeah, I haven't been active for some years now. But people are still lame, because they are running around with that duckjumping shit. I think it's very lame. About the childish part, the scene have never been non-childish. So it isn't now. :>

Do you feel that the Danish scene has made one step forward - I'm talking about sponsors, press stuff and stuff like that.
I don't know about the teams contracts, and what they are getting from their sponsors, but it seems more professional now than back in the days.

Do you ever think you will be so good again, that you maybe will get payed to play Counter-Strike?
I don't know, and I don't care about it. I play CS because I like it.

Let's talk a little about the team in that you are playing today. How did it all start?
I know knowing Remi, Rubiano and kehlet for many of years, and they have also been my friends when I wasn't playing CS. So when we talked about CS, we found it natural to play on the same team. And then I have been talking with spdr and spectated him when he was a stand-in for SoA, and I liked what I saw. So we talked a bit about it, and came to the conclusion that he should be the last player.

zyphiNt, former level-gamer: I always liked Kenneth, because that guy can make me laugh so it hurts. Kenneth, when you read this; if you were a woman, I would have fucked you right away. As a player generally, it doesn't matter if it's CS, DoTA or anything else, then Kenneth is all the same. He always wants to be the best, and he's always so dead-serious when it's about winning/being the best. He's fast with the tactics and he always has good ideas in specific situations, when you need it badly. I think its nice to play with him and be a part of that.

As a friend he's a very funny (but serious) type, there is up for anything. Some days ago I found out that he's a chicken when it comes to crabs. We were at the beach and he was like 'Sezer, turn that stone around. Sezer, turn that stone around also' .. But he's up for anything, and he's a good friend on which you can count on. If you are in a bad mood, he will get you up into a good mood.

He's always ready for a friend-to-friend battle (he's usually doomed physical HEHE), but still today he's owning people. He can shut peoples mouth, but in a funny way.

He's that kind of type there is fast to answer back, if someone just thinks they are trying to say something smart. Many people are misunderstanding him because of that, but he's good enough. You can 100 % feel two different mentalitys from a friend to a teammate.

It doesnt look like you are afraid of giving new 'talents' the chance to show what they got. What about your future plans? How do they look?
Not at all, as long as the people are smart, I think its nice with some fresh blood on the scene. And I think 100 % that spdr has what it takes. Our future plans are very simple. We are trying to get in shape, and then do our best. We don't want to say that we will win everything in 6 months. We know that we are not that good enough, and we know, that we have to pracc a lot. So I hope people do respect that.

But you are ready to take the time that it takes to become a good team?
Absolutely. Everybody has their opinions, as I already have been reading on other sites. They are giving us one month before we close - but hey, they can say that if they want to. We are not here to play stupid games. We know it takes time, and we have talked about that we have to spend the time on it.

That sounds nice, and I personally look forward to see how far you can get, if you really work for it. I don't have more questions, and I just want to thank you for taking the time for this interview. If you would like to say before we finish this interview, then do it now.
You're welcome, and no thanks - I hate giving last comments.
