Whilst Source is becoming more and more popular there are a bunch of guys (and girls?) who are developing a bridge between 1.6 and Counter-Strike: Source, namely, CSPromod. CSPromod will effectively unite the two communities under one game, a mixture of both 1.6 and source, and hopefully please the majority. Do you think it is wise to unite the two games or would you prefer to keep them two seperate?
Actually, We have quite clear example about this already with dod 1.3 - ProDoD - DoD:S, the promod of DoD just flopped. I'm a bit afraid that instead of uniting the communities of the 2 games, it will divide them into three different scenes, either that, or then it will flop. I like the idea of using promod maps in CSS though. But of course if the promod will indeed pull off, I'm quite sure that its the best path to go to and it will please the majority and the competetive scene of both games.
Let's imagine you have a number of investors who are interested in electronic sports and they want to invest in a project that will really benefit the sport. What project would you undertake?
The one really important project to be undertaken is the advertising. Hardly ever you see any ads regarding to eSports. My guess is that with just a little bit of marketing we could make this into a mainstream industry.
For your marketing campaign which game would you choose to be eSports flagship? Perhaps you'd market a single player instead?
For my marketing campaign I'd take all the multiplayers, I mean, whats the fun when you play against computers alone when you can share, have fun and compete with and against lots of people in the internet, its a global case, wouldnt want to hide it!
What do you think about the major tournaments reluctance to pick up Source as a competition game? Do you this changing in the near future?
I think that all the major 'tournaments' have chosen a wrong path, both games are individuals, so they should be treated equally. Instead of picking just one CS, and some other games, they could pick up both CS and CSS!
Finally, the CPL has recently announced that they are developing their own game, Severity. The game is said to playable in both team and duel mode, and contain all the best aspects of current FPS esport games. Do you think this could throw the scene on its head upon release? Will it effect Counter-Strike, Source or CSPromod? Or do you expect it to run along these games?
I dont think that one game that is new will ever replace 2 games with stable gamer bases, so yeah, I hope it can run along side of those games and get its own gamer base and tournaments! Have to give it a test though when it comes out.
Thanks for your time, it's been quite a while but we're finally at an end. Any final comments?
My pleasure. I'd like to thank our sponsors Globalcash.fi, Nordicbet, Qpad and Level7, and my friends all over the world. Thanks to Tapio "kalkkuna" Riepponen. See you in the battlefields. Oh, and remember to check my new movie when it comes out!
