Could you briefly introduce yourself to the readers please?
My name is Lukasz Wnek, playing under the nick of LUq. I am a 22 year old student, living in Warsaw.
Tell me about your youth, especially the part when you came in contact with games until now. How did you develop from a regular kid on the streets to an e-star, let’s say.
The first contact with computer games must be at least 7 or 8 years behind. In those years, you only got to read about big quake leagues and events, about the successes of Jonathan „fatality“ Wendel. Only a few countries offered real internet access, and even less of them had a real broadband connection. Poland was not among those, thus gaming related people were mostly to be found in internet cafes. For me, this meant going to some of those places with my colleagues in order to start playing with HL:DM, over HL:Opposing Force, and after some time it was CS, which drew attention to us. It didn't take me long to adopt to the HL engine and physics, plus aiming and recoil were things I learnt very fast.
When I saw CS for the first time, playing the game felt like a kind of magic. I got more and more into the game, so that I spent a lot of Friday and Saturday nights in the cafe. I still remember the old days on mini_militia – quite funny, but I still like to play on that map from time to time. At that point of time, no one even dreamt of being a professional gamer. Anyway, all happened faster, than anybody would assume.
The first team was „GryNet“, which actually could be translated into GameOnline. With it came the first successes, due to which we were sponsored by the cafe, and playing CS all of a sudden didn't cost anything any longer for me. My first international event was PG Challenge in 2001, taking place in Prague. The scale of the event left an impression in my mind that has been lasting until my first WCG event I attended with Arcy. In those days, we were the one running after the big names like ]I[nfernum. If we had only been capable of playing like them, I thought. With time, things have changed to our fortune.
Besides playing games, what do you like doing in your spare time? Is there any sport you like doing?
The older one becomes, the less time one has to be doing sports. Unfortunately, that also applies to me. During my time at school I was involved into a lot of sports. During the week, I did a lot of kick-boxing, which together with playing CS at the weekends pretty much made my week.
I still like doing sports, if I have the chance to. You can ease and free your mind, fully relaxed, and at the same time put a lot of power and effort into sports, which will let you recover even faster and feel powerful afterwards.
